A walkthrough I've wanted to redo for a long time now. This time the cursor actually showed up and I was able to get the credits in. Here's Freddi Fish 1, the first HE game to use hand-drawn cartoon graphics. It's quite easy to tell, as the animation here is mediocre compared to the later HE games and how you can't skip movement phases. I visited every location this game has, even all of the caves. I also got opposite paths from my old walkthrough to allow more variety. This was the first HE game I ever played (at least, it feels like it), and even though I have high nostalgia for this game, honestly it doesn't stand up to the later HE games. It does have my favorite HE music ever, though (The Sunken Ship). With such an awesome theme, you would expect there to be more great ones, but the rest of the soundtrack is simply solid, to say the least. There's really nothing else that stands out except for a couple of other background themes.
"If we don't find the kelp seeds soon, all the fish are gonna die!"
Jesus. Kids' games didn't mess around back then.

Smh I just noticed that bro
I mean, Oregon trail was pretty fucked too
And we all turned out just fine
I think we were very lucky to have games like these growing up. Miss these days 😭
Same
I know the feeling. I miss those days and what the internet used to be.
I never played this but I grew up with Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and GTA San Andreas
THAT MUSIC. OH GOD THE MEMORIES.
my tiny heart
But i saw putt - putt from last time
I absolutely LOVED the art-style of this game and the darker atmosphere, I found that later Freddi Fish games tended to be a lot brighter and less lonely which oddly I didn't like as much.
Rohan Liley I 100% agree
True, this game had quite a dark tone and athmosphere for a kids game, and the later games had very bright athmosphere, I definitly respect the dark tone this game has
I agree I loved the vibe of this game
Idk, the 2nd game gave my sister nightmares. 😅
Yes! I love this theme!!! Feels like we are really underwater
I used to spend hours on these games cuz i didn't know what to do lol
+Wayne Gee Seriously! I would always get stumped when playing Pajama Sam! XD
I still haven't beat some of these games haha.
SAME AHA
same I was such an idiot child lmao
Cartoon High Me too! I loved that game! These games really let us explore on our own
PEANUT BUTTER JELLY FISH SANDWICH... I USED TO ALWAYS SAY THAT AND ALL THESE YEARS I FORGOT WHERE IT CAME FROM. CHILDHOOD MAN..
Same this has brought back mad nostalgia
Maze Madness lol
Spongebob also had a peanut butter jelly fish sandwich
My grandma bought me this game back in 03. One of my first computer games. She died of cancer a couple years ago, so this brought me to tears. Just remember playing this when I was little with her.
One of my favorites on the old library computer but they are shutting down and probably don't these days to my childhood. I later played the Wii version. I had the rest on PC but it got lost when we moved except for this game for Wii. I lost the PC games from my mom but I don't play them anymore. I like the internet for TH-cam so I can watch these games though.
🥺
And now I’m crying ☹️
We were all little with our grandmothers once. Love you po po ❤
I love how Freddi is such a professional when it comes to detective work. She basically knows everyone, has connections with a black market dealer, and bribes someone so they can get information. I can't help but imagine Freddi Fish in a film noir movie. ^ _ ^
she? SHE?!
@@dakotadrummond3258 oh my lord don't that kyoya dare ruin my childhood..!
Christopher Miguel Cruz It’s a transgendered fish. It used to be a he, but then it became a she when the game was released. We knew nothing about transgender when we were kids and we wouldn’t.
Like Cat Noir from Miraculous Ladybug, yeah. That role for Freddi!
@@PerpetualPrograstinator I love my childhood too.
i faintly had a flashback of a game that i played on my first pc, before i had internet ... i remembered it was underwater and the main char was a fish, after some googling i found this lmao, and watching this back i totally remember a lot of this game. must of been 15 years ago.... holy fuck nostalgia high
I know right? :)
Same!! i just remember Luther doing loopty loops so i googled "fish game loopty loop" lmao
Chunk literally same
Chunk exactly the same situation here
same. me and all my sisters would share the computer and rotate playing this game daily lol
Back when kids were raised on wholesome and educational entertainment. Definitely enjoyed the nostalgia, and I hope I can raise my kids on this someday.
I do not hope. After all I'm a despicable mutant that cannot be liked by any woman in the world.
I know I'm not a kid anymore but I want to play this game again 😭
Little known fact about sea urchins they're poisonous so ya think about that next time you play this took me this long to realize that LOL
Who says you have to be a kid to play it? Also, you can buy this game and the others on Steam. :)
I got this on my pc for my little cousin,
its on steam if you wanna still play it.
Omg same!!!
“Let’s go tell the Squid Father we are all going to share”
Yeah, because he sounds so very understanding.
Boss: "Squidfather, we thought of something, we're ALL going to share." Squidfather: "MANAFRERTFRA" ( Yes, we've been through this before. I get 80% and you both get 10%. and you get to keep your lives!)
This was my favorite game as a kid. I played it to the point where the location of the kelp was no longer a mystery, and even after that, I still played it because it was just do damn fun. Even right now I'm getting nostalgic about finding the SuperDuperDookaBookaPolyGizmo.
Man, they put a lot of animation into these games. It's always good to see such sincere effort put into children's entertainment.
The start of my internet addiction

Savage 1717 ME
Why? Its offline game.
@@ScienceDiscoverer responding to a 10 yr old comment is crazy haha
@Savage-ig1pw I'm glad you are still kicking =)
The music for this game is ineffably good. George Alistair Sanger "The Fat Man" is unbelievable
I just realized at 0:46 Freddi calls that purple fish "Jason". Jason Ellefson voiced Putt-Putt. :D
In swedish he was known as Ludde / Ludvig, but Jason definitly sounds a bit better though I think
WOW
I Actually Noticed That Reference.
Yes, and Jason has same color scheme
too - purple and white.
OMG, I played this game all the time when I was a kid. I couldn't remember what it was called until now. The nostalgia is infinite.
Memories that I haven't remembered since I was 5 have suddenly hit me (most specifically the pearl and the quest to get it). Holy shit.
FOR REAL HOLY SHIT
Hi same! I kept googling, fish underwater hunt for pearl with jellyfish and eventually found it and was hit with nostalgia
You can't get good games like these anymore. Too many games are either an app that gets tedious very fast unless you purchase items or characters, or video games that you can run through in a day because the most entertaining stuff is DLC. Why doesn't anyone make a simple but enjoyable point-and-click adventure? These were the best when I was little.
+Cartoon High
I agree, in fact after I adopt kids I'm gonna make sure my computer will be able to play all these old games (not only Humongous Entertainment, but also others like Jump Start and Reader Rabbit) so that they can play them. Might have to purchase a download or something onto the computer in order to accomplish this, but it'll be more than worth it.
+MWolfL I freakin loved Jump Start and Reader Rabbit! They gave me in-home edumacation! So noble to adopt kids who need a home. Good luck to ya!
+Cartoon High Thanks, but first I need good luck in finding a job. Stupid recession. -_-
Also I've been debating something for a while: what do you think of the idea of Luther getting a crush on Freddi?
MWolfL Maybe that's why he acts like such a high and mighty know-it-all around her.
+Cartoon High
Yeah, that would explain it. In fact it's one of the reasons why I started debating the idea.
Either way I wouldn't blame him for getting a crush on Freddi. She's smart, brave, and has a strong heart. Any fish would be lucky to end up with her.
the game has awesome music, I wish they brought Humongous games back.
millicent1990 store.steampowered.com/app/283940/
I already bought all the games, all of them are amazing!
they do on mobile and steam but nothing new
the music on this game is unbelievably good
dat bass yo
They honestly didn’t need to go so damn hard on this soundtrack but I am forever grateful they did, I can’t wait to experience this game again with my children when they’re old enough to play it
“If we don’t find the kelp seeds soon all the fish are going to die”
Like damn Freddie that was harsh...
This nostalgia makes me so happy for some reason. Ahhhh the memories
This will probably always be my favorite of the five. I don't necessarily think it is the best, but it's my favorite. I just have the deepest and oldest memories of this one. I remember being scared of the cave that looks like a skull and just loving watching all of the acts in the theatre and feeling so accomplished when I solved the hardest of the math problems. So basically mark my reasons as "hardcore nostalgia."
Same here definitly, this was definitly the best of the best, and the games got weaker as the series went on (although the only Freddi Fish game I don't consider to be the same masterpiece as the others is the fifth one)
I just realized that Humongous Entertainment had a fish-friendly pelican almost a decade before Pixar. XD
And he was simpin to Freddi :D
i had a flashback of collecting those purple sea urchins and i couldn’t think of what it was and omg i can’t believe i found it
Jason has Putt-Putt's colors, and was named after Putt-Putt's original voice actor.
I thought Jason looks like a fish version of Putt-Putt
@@marisabrenner7752 Both cases are true.
It’s probably just my imagination, but it might have been meant as a “Freddy vs Jason” reference.
Nostalgia. Me and my little brother grew up playing this. One of our first computer games. The music is on point.
You didn't think it was too dark? 😂
The amount of work for this game, back in 1994, is almost unreal
That ship... It used to creep the heck out of me, and it still kinda does.. o.o
It’s the music isn’t it.
Me tooo
Thanks for the memories
This evokes a powerful feeling of nostalgia. I feel a lump in my throat. Thank you Papa
A king Crab, greedy and likes riches, an angry Squid thats easily annoyed, A Fat Purple and Pink female character hose size gets her into trouble.a foolish shark that's derogatorily called 'SPONGE HEAD' Pirate that likes to sing.....and asks you to repeat yourself, and a main character thats YELLOW....Inspiration? or just coincidence.....never noticed it before
Joshua Cazoe coincidence
Agreed
This game has such amazing soundtrack.
Thanks vanoss for showing me this scary game 😳😖
Some spooky stuff man😳
ITS SO SCARY I THINK I JUST FARDED
I’m now a grown man and the squid father still keeps me up at night
As a child I thought those 3 grotto's resembeld a giant skull!
I also loved Freddi Fish 1 so much, it had kind of a darker undertone from the others, it felt really different and mysterious.
I love when Luther hugs Freddi in the three caves! It’s so sweet!
Spending New Year’s Eve watching walkthroughs of all of the games I played as a little kid. Bawling extra hard at this one!
I absolutely loved playing this game when I was little!! It was the very first computer game I ever owned and the nostalgia is hitting me like a ton of bricks. I always clicked on the random objects to see all the animations so it always took forever to finish the game. Ah, so many found memories
OMG! I can't believe I actually found this game once again! I haven't played that game since I was 5 years old! This was my favorite game of all time!
I remmbered the jingles when you had to find the catfish....lawwddddiieee.....ive been whistling to it....ITs amazing how things are in your memory.....you remember what you forgot you know.....
I had a thought about Freddi's interactions with Jason: did she used to babysit him?
It would explain why Jason never showed up again after this despite them obviously being friends: Jason doesn't mind meeting up with Freddi and chatting with her, but now that he's old enough to not need a babysitter he'd rather hang out with his actual friends than his honorary friend.
i'm going on a "nostalgia trip" right now and revisiting all the humongous enterntainment games I've played. I never did finish Pajama Sam: Thunder and lighting aren't so frightning..way too hard for me at the time. Especially the part where there are chairs asking you like idk..history questions? like, you understand that a four year old should know how to answer this right?
there was only that one chair at the board meeting and yeah I finished that as a kid multiple times
For some reason I couldn't beat that one either. Then I got the mobile app version and found out there was a bug that some versions had that made it impossible to beat. It made me wonder if the original had the bug too
Man I used to play this on the computers during activity time in kindergarten. It was my FAVORITE game! Thank you!
Aw thank you so much for sharing this. Lots of Nostalgia of very happy simple times. Miss the days when we would play this as kids. Thank you
On the part when freddi said "if we don't find the kelp seeds all the fish will die" thats kinda dark thing a cartoon character should be saying
My childhood... I remember the background music for the King's Castle like it was yesterday
Mega nostalgia, happy to have found this.
one of the few things of my childhood that hasn't been destroyed. :) i miss these games!
For those of you who know about the Sly Cooper series and one of the characters, Penelope, I found out that she and Freddi Fish are voiced by Annette Toutonghi, because I when I first heard Penelope speak, her voice sounded so familiar so I found out why.
I was trying so hard to remember what game this was. It was like 25 years ago for me and everything was so fuzzy. So glad I found it. A lot came back to me. That jellyfish sandwich part stressed me out as a kid.
Looking at it all now, it's surprisingly dark in atmosphere, well written, funny even, and good gameplay/exploration. I'm impressed!
I remember the excited little kid playing this game, been more then 10 years, feels like a time machine, wow... hit some chords.
This game > Dark Souls, Smash Bros, Ocarina of Time and Team Fortress 2
Seriously, the music kicks ass, the graphics are so realistic and the game play is just magnificent.
GOTY right here
Shortly after this was released my parents bought this game for me in the 90s I've played this game from then til 2010, goddamn I love this!
I’ve had this game when I was a toddler in the 90s and I played until my freshmen year in 10. The memories of playing this cd and the music. Mmmmm! It gets me very emotional.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought Luther was "Loser" when I was a kid.
i thought he was named loser too. back when i played this on a windows 98 emachines pc when i was in elementary school back during 2003.
Nope.
I’m dead 🤣 I never thought that but it’s hilarious 😆
"Produced and designed by RON GILBERT".
This is the answer you were all looking for.
the game has a beautiful look to it and always has
Beautiful drawings
The nostalgia is strong with this video. I remember playing Freddi and Putt Putt games all the time when I was little, I also remember being extremely addicted to them.
I played this game when I was a kid.
Oh god the nostalgia is so strong and it makes me so happy that I found this!
This is still to this day one of the best games ever made and the best Humoungus Entertainment game! The nostalgia is too much!
Omg I finally found it this game brings back so much nostalgia I remember playing as a little kid
“Mama’s comin’! Ugh oh, I’m stuccccckk!” And then Freddie swims right by her after watching the whole thing lol. I know he goes back to her but I absolutely loved that part. I loved the entire game, and Putt Putt! I remember it took me a few tries to beat this game but I eventually did and got go excited. I’ll always remember how proud I was of myself. I remember my dad brought home a game that had like 4 games on it and Freddie/the case of missing kelp seeds was one of them. Ahh this makes me feel so happy and nostalgic. I would spend hours just clicking on everything I saw to see what it would do.
Edit: Fatty Bear and Putt Putt where on the cd as game samples too. Then I loved Fatty Bear so much my mom bought me the game for my birthday and I remember her saying they cost a fortune. Freddie and Fatty bear for life :)
Freddi is a girl btw
Fucking nostalgia man
What does "nostalgia" mean?
this game is better than destiny lmao
I can literally beat this in a heartbeat. Thanks for the memories of Freddi and Luther!
This was such a rich game. Half the fun was just messing around with all the easter-eggs and interactive scenery! Soundtrack helped too.
I'm going to cry from nostalgia I loved this game when I was little
Man I remember I finally beat this after like a year lmao didn’t know what to do when I got to the ship. Memories 👌
Aha yea I vaguely remember being absolutely lost on the ship
Freddie, Putt Putt, Pajama Sam. If you played these games, odds are you had an awesome childhood!!! Absolute classics. I'm 30 now. Played these religiously as a kid. Finding these videos on TH-cam made my night.
It's truly amazing what the brain can store away. I remember every scene from all 3 games 26 years later. Discovering memories I forgot I even had!
nostalgia..
Ommg as soon as the intro started I felt my childhood just coming back. I have like tears in my eyes. Thanks so much for posting this.
The first game i remember playing, so many memories of an awesome game.
I used to have the CD. This just bring back all the memories. I miss this game even though idk how to play it. Lol
You can find it on the App Store these days
Damn this game was comfy
Strangely, the caves only need light when a bottle will be in one of them. I say it's strange because you can still pick up the glowing shell regardless, which makes it one of the few HE games bar Spy Fox to include items that are possibly red herrings.

Funny how in the first two Freddi Fish games, the mysteries have only one ending and they both involve the Squidfather and sharks. Similar to the final Freddi Fish game, but that one was much more challenging. 3 and 4 were the only ones with the potential for different endings.
wow. i’d been looking for this game long time. this was my childhood game. but now a day I already lost that game.
I hoped to watch it again how look that game was. I wanted to remember how look! So thank you really much for showing this playing screen. I’m so happy to watch it😍
From Japan
I bought the entire Humongous collection a few months ago, playing it almost every day. I can remember it like it was yesterday, three years old and my dad booted up this game (in Dutch). Now, fourteen years later and still enjoying it the same, the gameplay and the music are just bringing memories back😍 Definitely during the second lockdown we're in right now, I will be playing Pajama Sam, Putt Putt, Spy Fox and ofc Freddi Fish a lot haha
I remember playing this as a kid and I just now was reminded of this lovely game with lovely sound track ❤
I remembered playing Freddi Fish when I was younger! I loved the under-the-sea mysteries that Freddi and Luther went through!
THEY MAKE THE BESTT GAMES
Same here. The atmosphere in this game (and sort of in the second one) is so much darker than the others? Especially compared to the Case of the Stolen Conch Shell haha
This is a literal Time Machine. I remember playing this on my grandmas windows 95 desktop. Amazing memories. The music, the ominous atmosphere, everything. Loved this
I used to come home from school and play this every day
Both Annette Toutonghi and Mike McAuliffe are the voices behind Penelope in Sky Cooper and Slippy Toad in Star Fox.
The nostalgia runs deep with this lmao. I vaguely remember playing this game and putt-putt in like pre school on a original iMac which must have been in like 2002 or something.
I remember getting excited over seeing all the sea creatures Freddi helps, make an appearance at the end when she and Luther plant the kelp seeds.
Then I learned not every run requires you to help everyone so if you're feeling particularly mean you can leave Gabby trapped under a rock and his mom stuck like Pooh Bear, Fiddler Crab trapped in his cage, and Herman forever sleepless.
You get the fastest ending sequence possible but it feels a lot less satisfying.
WHAT?! Ron Gilbert produced the game??? HE IS A GENIUS!!! He made Monkey Island too!
Indeed he did. I've played Monkey Island myself and I love it just as much as I love these games. A few LucasArts veterans even migrated over to this company as well (Brad Taylor and Dave Grossman come to mind). Another little fun fact is that the name Humongous Entertainment was suggested by none other than Tim Schafer himself! He never worked for the company, sadly, but I thought that was interesting.

This is a nostalgic overload right now, this is like one of my first ever memories in life
Man this thing left such an impression on me. It is a golden memory for my 5 year old self
16:06 As scary as Eddie is, he does have a good side to him. In the second game, Freddi even says "He doesn't try to be mean. He just needs a good friend."
Jason is Putt-Putt's fish counterpart
You know, you can consider this game to be when Humongous Entertainment started 'Growing the Beard'. The first two Putt-Putt games were good, but this game was the start of the 'two separate paths' format that would later become normal for the franchise.
Plus this was the first game to have a serious problem that needed to be solved. Putt-Putt getting stuck on the moon was kinda serious, but it wasn't like his life was in danger like the fishes' lives were in this game.
Looking back at this as an adult, that green fish sounds an awful lot like Mr Meeseeks
So many precious memories.
I remember playing this in daycare!! I completely forgot about this game 😂😭 this makes my inner child really happy.
This game is such a core memory what a nostalgia trip!!
