The baby sloth actually needed someone that was a very gentle caregiver to wash and dry it, put lotion on it and brush its hair. There was no reason to handle such a delicate little creature with anything other than the utmost love and care.
They hold on to those stuffies by instinct, as they usually would have held on to their mother, but most of these sloths are orphans, so they get plushies as a substitute.
I've watched all the sloth videos I can find dozens of times and it's so sad and cute to watch the little guy reaching out so desperately for his stuffed toy!
