    Great video! I’ve watched literally *every* CTB20 TH-cam video, and this is easily one of the best. Just the right length to get in depth without being onerously long.
    You also nailed almost everything I wondered about the bag (even though I have it haha), particularly the packing capability. I’m going on a 3 day trip coming up and your loadout is exactly what I was contemplating.
    Liked and subbed!

      @@GoBearrister thank you so much for the kind words! I’m often self conscious about the load out part of the video because sometimes I feel it can be long and get into the weeds but thats why I do it, to give people a realistic explanation of what fits. I use my real gear and clothing to mimic exactly what I would bring. I still had plenty of room left over in this bag. I’m glad you found the video helpful and i appreciate the sub!

    Great backpack. Evergoods is my favorite manufacturer of packs and backpacks. In my humble opinion Evergoods have the best compartments and organization with a slick simple sexy look. I really like their catalog. I have several. Now I need a CPL16L. I'm really hoping that they release a X-Pac version in OD Green but I'll settle for black. Thank you for the review John. God bless! I found you through Reddit, and I want to say thank you for your honest and true review of the bag! Well done! Keep going! You're doing great!
    As you already explained how beautiful the bag is, the only thing I don't like about this bag (and most backpacks) is that they put the side quick-access pocket zip on the left side.
    I usually carry my backpacks on my right shoulder, and when I want to grab something (let's say a key), I have to remove the whole bag, turn it, open the zip, take whatever I need to take, close the zip, and swing it back to my right shoulder.
    So that feature is super important to me!

      First off, Welcome and thank you for the kind words! I’ve been at it for about 2 months and hopefully I can continue making improvements at both video quality and presentation.
      Evergoods did some “mirror” bags for people like yourself, who swing the bag around in the other direction. I haven’t heard of any plans to do a mirror CTB20 and I know for sure they’re not restocking any of the others sadly. Thank you for pointing that out, that’s the kind of thing I need to consider when I make these videos because that’s very useful information. I talk about personal experience but taking a step back and looking how the bag can affect different people is useful for reviews imo.

      It’s funny, I have the same problem except I’m a left shoulder carrier! My Sympl Commuter 20L and Able Carry Daily plus 21L have the zippers on the right side. I guess Evergoods is a good match for me. I’ve been eyeing the CTB 26 for a long time.

    What I loved about my CTB26 - pretty much everything you touched on in the review - excellent pocketing and organization - it's there if you want it, but if you don't, it just stays out of your way. The best water bottle pockets of any bag, hands down. The laptop compartment zipper garage. The way it self stands. The counter pulls on the main compartment - such a little thing - but you don't realize how helpful they are until you use a bag without them. I wish I actually enjoyed wearing the bag as much as I enjoyed "using" the bag. My only issue is with the straps and strap material -the way it feels and sounds to me is the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. I purchased a Goruck GR2 26L robic a few months ago and haven't used my CTB26 since. I do miss those bottle pockets, though!

    I would use the water bottle pockets to house CAP 1s and some other slim stuff and actually keep the water bottle inside the main compartment. The horizontal luggage pass-through works for this bag because of the horizontal access admin pocket and that floating back panel is anyways available to make it a pass-through. Would love to see a hypalon molle on the backstraps to hang carabiners or sunglasses or anything else such as while moving about though.

    I wanted to try this one but due to it being out of stock ordered the mpl22. I love the layout of that bag but the shoulder straps seem to push outwards, as if they want to slide off my shoulders. Also, the stitching on the side of the straps seems to dig in my shoulders. Any thoughts on that with ever goods bags? Do the straps tend to break in a bit? Btw, subscribed! A nice honest guy doing very down to earth reviews, much appreciated!

      Hmmm I don’t have experience with that bag specifically but LOTS of time with the CTB26. I always wear a tight sternum strap out oh habit more than necessity. So my straps never walk on me. I also didn’t feel the need for the straps to break in on EG bags, other bags for sure but not so much these. What I do know is that there is a faction of people that their body’s and EG bags just don’t mix. I’ve read lots comments about back dog issues and other problems. The positive is that you’re are able to return the bag but it’s a hassle for sure. A restock is coming soon on the CTB20, I would still give it a shot because its design and function are quite different than the MPL.

    I wonder if these bags are designed in a too safe location.
    It's all fun to have quick access when you swing the bag around. Only problem is that after 10min walking there won't be stuff to access quickly any more.
    Stuffing your wallet on the inside, for which you need to put the bag down to access. Loses all usefulness again.
    There should be a pocket near the back for wallet.
    Going through the airport or public transportation means you need to get to wallet and passport easily.
    This bag means I still need a sling on me.

      TOTALLY understand your concern because it’s mine as well. 99.9% of the time I travel, it’s with a sling for this very reason. If you skip to the load out portion of the video I pack my wallet in what I refer to as a security pocket. This non mesh zippered pocket is inside the main component and putting your valuables behind a zipper within a zipper feels more secure. I intentionally didn’t load any valuables in the QAP’s for the reason you stated. It’s not the most convenient solution but it’s the best option for this particular pack I feel. Appreciate your perspective!

      But that's a location that means you are putting your bag down every time you need to access it.
      Might be convenient of extra cash or passport once you are at the location.

      I'm going to mod my trakke bannoch to have a pocket like this. Just sew one of the bottle holders shut. And add a zipper at the back.

      I would pick the M23 for me because it’s a simpler layout, has the ability to expand just incase I come back with more than what I left with and I prefer GORUCKS harness over Evergoods. None of that is a knock on the CTB20 though because it has the most useful and thoughtful design if you prefer internal organization. The EG straps are plenty comfortable it’s just a matter of personal preference and carry style. A year ago I would’ve picked the EG but now I’m a pouch guy so I don’t need pockets for everything.

      @@UnPackD Really appreciate you always responding with thoughtfulness. I've come away from needing internal organization as well and prefer less pockets, so M23 sounds right for me. Yeah, there's something about EG straps that, while good, I've been starting to feel so discomfort with them. Goruck's seem like they take time to break in, but I have yet to hear complaints about the way they carry overall.

      @@BiggDeli the GR straps are like no other I’ve seen. They’re BEEFY and the bags can be slightly heavier but they’re comfortable. You could also remove the frame sheet or replace it to adjust for comfort. I haven’t had to do that personally but since I’m always changing bags during testing for the videos, I’m always happy when I switch back to a GR bag. Been carrying the GR1 in Robic since I’m testing slings for upcoming videos.
      Appreciate you always stopping by brother 🫡🤝

    the weak point of CTB are the stretchy materials... how to repair those when wornout?

      @UnPackD  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@7Archie4 well most people replace the bag before the stretch material fades I suppose but EG does offer a lifetime warranty on their bags. I have no personal experience but I’ve heard their customer service is excellent.

    Which would you recommend and would use personally as an EDC bag, CTB20 or CPL16?
    I like the bottle pockets of the CTB20 but not the bulk.
    I like the slim profile of the CPL16 but would like bottle pockets.
    It’s a shame they can’t make an in between bag like a CHZ16 with dedicated laptop compartment. Damn shame.

    • @UnPackD
      @UnPackD  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oofff that’s a tough call. I think I rather have a little extra room and get the WBP’s if that’s really important. On the flip side, I’ve actually been carrying my bottle on the inside of the main compartment for almost all my bags, regardless if they have external WBP’s. I really like to maintain that sleek profile and not have all kinds of things poking out.
      Long story longer, I think I would go CPL16 and figure out how to incorporate my bottle inside or change bottles to accommodate. Probably not the best solution but I know myself and that’s something i totally see myself doing. 🤣

    • @GoBearrister

      @@Outrayjes1 @UnPackD it’s to make the laptop compartment accessible in the same horizontal orientation as the bag. If they made the pass-through vertical it would be a little more awkward to get the laptop from the side of the backpack, where it has a higher risk of falling out. Makes sense IMO.

      Horizontal luggage pass-thru makes sense for this particular backpack. Because both the laptop compartment and the front admin compartment are horizontal access as well.

      @UnPackD  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hahaha 😂 yes it bugs me too, you’re the first person to call it out. It’s just a cheap Amazon bought background mounted on a back drop stand. No matter how tight I stretch it, it still moves. Best case would be to mount and nail it to the wall but there’s stuff behind there so that out.

    Subbed. One thing of note, I’d like it if you would tell us where they are made. A lot of these manufacturers don’t give that information on their website, and if they do, it is buried deep in there.
    I know it doesn’t matter to most people, but I’d rather not buy from companies that do business in China, when I can. Their government doesn’t allow its citizen’s any freedoms, and I don’t support that

      @@UnPackD I’m am glad that you’re receptive to feedback, it will make you a better creator. The manufacturing information should be included on a tag sewn into the bag. I believe it is mandated by law that it is included in there.
