British prime minister Tony Blair is due to appear before the parliamentary inquiry into legality of the Iraq war today, with public interest so keen that seats in the viewing gallery have been allocated by lottery. The inquiry has already heard from former UK attorney general Lord Goldsmith, who wrote to the prime minister in 2002 that military action in Iraq would be dependent on a UN resolution.
Watching this Chilcott inquiry with some fascination is lawyer Geoffrey Robertson QC, a former UN appeal judge and an occasional adviser to the British government.
