Thank you Kelly for posting this! I know first-hand how utterly frustrating it is being forced to wait For Weeks And Even Months for the 'chair repair tech ppl to ever get scheduled to evaluate the problem, and even simple thing like switching out dead batteries for good, working ones. I'm barely 4 ft tall, and not anywhere a "muscular strong" Little Person, but your video instruction gives me a boost of "Girl Power" with trying to change out my powerchair batteries too! I most likely need someone to lift and pull out the old/dead batteries, and then insert the new ones, but I'll have the inside scoop to direct the steps/directions on what needs to be completed & done. I just need to save the money for my (PerMobil C300) Powerchair batteries when it's time. Wish me luck!! ;)
I believe in you, SunriseDawn. I do wish you all the luck in the world. Yes, you should probably recruit someone to help you lift the batteries. As for the lengthy repairs from our vendors, it is SO frustrating. Not only do you have to wait for the evaluation appointment, you can wait MONTHS for the insurance approval, shipping, and then install appointment. I'm not sure how folks do if they don't have more than one chair. UGH!
@@KellySydnorRollwithCole - Yes, it is So frustrating having to wait weeks, several months for repairs & or parts & insurance to approve. If the Insurance folks had common sense & understood that our Wheels ARE indeed Our "Legs" to get around independently, they would make it so much easier & faster to get equipment ("durable medical goods") with doctor's prescription, have the evaluation completed within days/one week and put out an Urgent APB to the chair's manufacturer for replacement parts & installation. We who need powerchairs/wheelchairs have to develop a thick skin of sorts dealing with all the "red tape", but it sure can push us towards being more vocal and advocating our needs (and it always is a great boost when we have Mama Bears & Grandma Bears on our side making noise to get things done ASAP!)! Sometimes the Only way to get things done is to Do It Yourself - as you've proven to do it yourself by installing the new powerchair batteries in Cole's chair... and way back (half my age) when my Grandma Nellie bought a big 50-lbs bag of concrete, made a frame, threw down some pebbles & rocks found in the yard and after mixing concrete & water in an old plastic bucket, she poured down a concrete ramp for me to get up the porch step-then across the porch width and up the threshold step at house's front door... and she smoothed the bumps using an old wooden ruler. I'm telling you, Moms & Grandmas are built tough; true examples of "Girl Power"... talk about "Necessity is the mother of invention" but it sure is due to a Mom or Grandma's love that will do whatever it takes (improvisation of tools, i.e. duck tape it) to get things done. You definitely Rock the Girl Power, Mama Kelly! ;)
Such a great DIY video, Kelly! I actually use a far less complicated device for mobility, a 3 wheel scooter that requires two 8 lb. batteries. Next time I need a battery replacement, I will try to do it myself instead of assuming it’s not something I could correctly do. My disability is MS. In closing, thank you for this inspiring DIY video! I am so glad you’re on TH-cam and I look forward to watching more of your videos. I cannot begin to tell you how much I love Cole and Charisma. I just finished watching their wedding ceremony. Beyond heartwarming. 💕
Thank you for your kind comment, Lynne. I hope you will try to replace your batteries. Waiting for insurance to cover things like this can be painfully slow and the wait is unacceptable in some instances. I ordered a replacement cushion for Cole's shower chair in September of last year. It arrived last week. 7 months of waiting. I will be posting more vids, soon. Thanks for watching.

I’m so amazed with all you do! We just purchased this same chair used for me but when we go to appointments or I’m not feeling well we had hoped my husband could push it easily from behind with the handles. He moved the controls so it will move freely with him pushing it but even with the turned off the motor feels like it’s trying to work against the front of the chair somehow. Is there something else we have to do to the chair to put into a manual mode so the caregiver can push without any resistance? I’ve watched others push their chairs freely but this one doesn’t want to.
You did a good job. I cant tell you how many washers and bolts I've dropped like that. And a heads up, you could have used just about any kitchen knife to cut that pool noodle. Same material as pipe insulation and I use a old kitchen knife from goodwill to cut it with no problem.
