5:35 - to avoid confusion: So what I’m intending to say here is that the IV chord in a major key would be major. So in B major that would be your E chord. In B minor it’s an Em. It’s simply a major substitution. My apologies if it came across the wrong way! 🙂
Hey, another guitarist I really like. Remarkably Human is an amazing guitar album where guitar somehow is not the focus all the time but instead just an instrument playing a great melody
I knew about Nick Johnston before I saw him live on the 2017 Intervals tour and was so blow away by him and his improv... easily one of the best guitar players alive right now.
Thank you so much dude..For actually being able to help with Nick's foundational playing style. Most of his clinic stuff is too overwhelming and he shares things which are very hard for me to absorb.
We're in for a great lesson :P Also I appreciate that we can hear your pick and strings ring along it just makes it sound so much more powerful/organic.
This is absolute GOLD! Thanks a ton Daryl! Have searched endlessly for someone who could breakdown Nick’s playing and you’ve done a phenomenal job. Thanks once again! 🤙🏻
I'd not heard of Nick Johnston until recently (last year or so) and I enjoyed this video quite a bit. I don't quite get all of the pickup switching stuff, but using my current Schecter and have found that I've got to lay off the pickup selector because it's losing it's internal connections (probably oxidization). Nick is one of those guitar players that when I start trying his techniques, I feel myself breaking out of the same old routine stuff. He's like a cross between Paul Gilbert, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, SRV, with the tiniest bit of John Mayer thrown in on a couple of things. You've done a great job cracking open his style. Please do more like this and I will pay money for that alone. I might consider a Skype lesson or two with you in the near future if my pocketbook can afford it.
He’s a cool dude huh! Glad you enjoyed the video man. You could easily fix your pickup selector with a little bit of soldering knowledge. Usually guitar manufacturers use poor quality electronic parts that don’t last. I’ve re-wired my whole guitar with vintage high quality wiring and hardware so that this doesn’t happen to me anytime soon. It’s lasted 6 years so far 🙂 I’ll be doing a few more things in this style in the near future so keep an eye out. Meanwhile if you wanted to book a Skype Lesson sometime then feel free to message me on facebook.com/darrylsyms. It would be a pleasure to help you out. Good luck! ✌️
Heck yeah, he's great. My Schecter is a C-1 Classic Diamond Series I purchased in 2002 (with the tone pros and jazz humbuckers) that has served me quite well. Considering how much I've played it, it's held up better than my Gibson LP, which is only 6 years old. It is probably time to have the wiring redone, but my guitar skills are a bit better than my soldering skills, so I'll have to pay a pro to do it.
Thanks man! I wasn’t trying to be honest. With the gear I own it’s not really possible at the moment. But I’m quite happy with my tone cause I feel like it’s a bit of an all rounder ✌️ I’d say the tone is more in the picking dynamics 🙂
Of course, the Timeline rules! To be honest my tone and settings is really not that advanced. With the delay, it’s just a basic common setting which you should have no worries soaking into your timeline 👍
Go outside, fill your pants with sand or soil, run 10km north keeping hold of as much sand/soil as you can, now empty your pants, do a backflip, then tell the next person you see that they’re the most beautiful specimen you’ve ever seen. After all that, plug your guitar in and download my presets on BFX2. That’s a good start, but there’s a little more to it than that 🙌
Im sorry Im just missing the point here at @5:35. The IV chord should be minor but it is often swapped with its relative major substitution which is E.
Ahh I see why you might be confused, I could have done a better job of explaining that one - my apologies. So what I’m intending to say here is that the IV chord in a major key would be major. So in B major that would be your E chord. In B minor it’s an Em. It’s simply a major substitution. I almost even confused myself after watching this again 😅

Oh wow that’s lasted quite some time!
I finally upgraded the Schecter pickups to Wolfetone "marshallhead" pickups. Oh my it's amazing.
I hope life's treating you well. Good stuff!
Wow, 2 years later and you came back to check in and let us know! Thanks, and I hope you’re well also! 😃😋
Your tone is almost similar to nick. Really impressed bro.
Thanks man! I wasn’t trying to be honest. With the gear I own it’s not really possible at the moment. But I’m quite happy with my tone cause I feel like it’s a bit of an all rounder ✌️ I’d say the tone is more in the picking dynamics 🙂

Hi Syms!
Great Job My Teacher!!!!!
It’s possible to put into my timeline delay (strymon) that preset sound Biax Fx do you used????

Of course, the Timeline rules! To be honest my tone and settings is really not that advanced. With the delay, it’s just a basic common setting which you should have no worries soaking into your timeline 👍

I'm watching this again and decide to sit down and learn it. I slowly notice that this is an outro improvisation that nick does in dunlop booth right?
You got it! At least, a little section of that anyway (roughly) 🤙

Relative major
Bm = E?
Enlighten me but is that really the relative major? Isn't it 'D'?
No it’s D. Did I say it was E?
Im sorry Im just missing the point here at @5:35. The IV chord should be minor but it is often swapped with its relative major substitution which is E.
Ahh I see why you might be confused, I could have done a better job of explaining that one - my apologies. So what I’m intending to say here is that the IV chord in a major key would be major. So in B major that would be your E chord. In B minor it’s an Em. It’s simply a major substitution.
I almost even confused myself after watching this again 😅
Anyway this video has very rich content. Thank you!
That RG has been modded to hell and back...
I’ve tried a few things 💁♂️ Though my intentions were to modify it to heaven and back, not hell 😉
Ok now can you teach us how to play lead like Nick Jonas?
That’s too advanced for me
Thanks a lot , i m worry about your right knee ....
What’re you worried about?
Nick tunning his guitar in Eb?????
Yes
