Thanks for watching everyone, hope you enjoyed the video. Here I'm trying to explain what kind of social and religious convulsions lead someone to go from "Yahweh is good" to "Yaldabaoth is the evil creator." Be sure to check out other vides on the channel about Gnosticism, the historical Jesus, the early church, and ancient Judaism. You can also keep up with my on by substack: michaelfbird.substack.com.

6:58 Yeah I just recently watched a video by a scholar of Gnosticism who pointed to the fact that John 8:44 says "του πατρος του διαβολου", so it's got two genitives in a row. Thus it is ambiguous whether it's an apposition, "of the father, i.e., of the devil", or "of the father of the devil", which in the former would suggest that the devil is the "father" of those Jews, and the latter points the blame to Yahweh, the "father" of Satan. So it surely is an ambiguous phrase, but all the other instances of Jesus talking about his father in a good light surely point to the appositional reading in this one ambiguous verse! It's really strange to me how Gnostics claim to have insight when they cherry-pick the Gospel of John like that...

Dr Bird. Do you find it any way possible, that the issue of Yhwh being corporeal/ anthropomorphic, plays a part in the palatability of Gnosticism, anciently?

Gnosticism satisfies our expectations of how hellenization affected Judaism than Christianity. I am of the persuasion that there is more going on in beginning of Gnosticism than Judaism. Great video.

Thank you for this analysis. Something that is true…after the destruction of the Second Temple, “Rabbinic Judaism” was not immediately born, fully defined. There remained different varieties of Judaism that vied for dominance; much like early “Christianity(ies).” Great video. Thank you.

Just like biblical and historical evidence proves that jesus and his apostles were vegatarians biblical and historical evidence also proves that the trinity, atonement, original sin and hell are very late misinterpretations and are not supported by the early creed hence its not a part of Christianity I pray that Allah swt revives Christianity both inside and out preserves and protects it and makes its massage be witnessed by all people but at the right moment, place and time
The secred text of the Bible says ye shall know them by their fruits
So too that I say to my christian brothers and sisters be fruitful and multiply
Best regards from a Muslim ( line of ismail )
