I remember the first time I had to say "citadel" out loud, when I had never heard the word, only read it in novels. I said "kitidel" and was laughed at. That was 20 years ago and I still remember that from time to time.
Is that the English prononciation of the word ? (genuine question) It’s close to the French one ! (the U is not « oo » in French but I have no idea how to write this sound to explain it 😅)
Merphy, this was exactly the video I needed at the moment, so thank you! Also I got "Books are purr-fect" for my star sign. I think it fits since I have 3 cats
All I can say is that I have bought over 120 books 📚 in the last two months since my mom passed away but I’m not reading 📖 them prayers and blessings for you and your husband and your beautiful kids love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
I got the “Reading is Magical” too. It fits. And like you, I just dodged two that SO don’t fit - hate smut and less books on my shelf is preferential since it shows my love for the exact ones there. One that fits me more is probably the “addicted to fiction” one 😅
For the Calvin Scale, I am normally a combination of 12 and 9. As for the pin, Astrologically, It says that I am easily distracted by books, which is not the case. Recently I keep getting distracted FROM books. What I most relate to is the Booktrovert.
I’m American, but grew up reading Asterix, Tintin, and Tolkien. That messed up my spelling for *years*. Also, I recently heard someone with a PhD pronounce “chasm” with a “chair” sound instead of a “k sound, so don’t feel too bad.
Like writing colour and favourite instead of color and favorite? I was also pronouncing chasm the "chair" way right up until I read you comment 😂 And only last month did I realise that indicted is pronounced as "indaited" and not "indicted" haha
Ok, no, if its just a romance subplot it can call itself fantasy, but when the romantic subplot takes over it should 100% advertise itself as romantasy and not as standard fantasy. If I wanted to read romance I would look in to romance or romantasy, when Im looking for fantasy I want adventure and such things, not romance
I am usually either a 7 or a 9 on the Calvin scale, no in between lol. Today I'm a 12 because I have my first cold of the season and being sick makes me sooo angry.
Calvin scale: Usually 1 or 5 but today is an 11 day. Horoscope: Mine was "I have a fiction addiction" which is not true as I read non-fiction almost as often. I related more to "Hermiting".
What if you could shine light from your nostrils? That would be handy for reading books. And many other things besides. Press your nose until you feel the click.
I have been many Calvins in my time 😅... recently my standard Calvin is probably either a 5 or a 1, my today Calvin is **definitely** a 1... so pretty typical day for me! 😂 I'm very much the same as you in the "unfortunately" multiple choice. 😊 My bookish pin is "I ❤ Reading"! Definitely fits me! 🥰
Cute/fun story about reading (and Calvin and Hobbes) When I was a kid, how late you were allowed to stay up was a big deal, because I was the youngest of 4. (Big kids get to stay up later). So I made a deal with my mom that I could stay up an extra 30 minutes so long as I spent that time reading, AND that if I encountered any words I didn’t understand I had to bring them to her to learn their meaning. I loved Calvin and Hobbes but there is some very adult vocabulary in it. Through it I remember learning a lot of specific words including: Avant-garde, melancholy, vicariously, spelunking, magnanimous, and (my favorite) evanescence (which means something that exists briefly then fades away and Calvin uses it to describe a melting snowman lol). Side note, thanks to my mom I thought the word melancholy was pronounced Melon - Chah - Lee until I was in college. I’ve passed this down to my oldest son who now loves to read and try to stump me with hard words from the books he reads.
1 or if I'm looking at the woman I love 3 & though I think I'm expressing all of these at different times people tell me that I'm mostly 1, because my expressions don't always match my feelings.
Calvin scale: On average I wake up a 7, which quickly turns into a 1 and by 10 am, I'm a 9... which usually lasts the rest of my day... though on occasion I get a lovely little jump into 12. By 35 I will be the grumpy old man who yells at people on his lawn and the noisy neighborhood kids - except that I'm not a man... A sad but undeniable truth. Only new books and/or art supplies make me feel a combination of 7, 2 & 3 as an all-day high (if I'm lucky, it's a week-long high), and then I'm back to my usual numbers.
Reading is Magical for me but I don't know how true that is because I just started reading this year and hasn't developed a particular taste for a genre yet but It would be so accurate If I grown to be a fantasy freak.
I read The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, all the way through, always pronouncing Gandalf as Grandlaff. I had noticed that while it was a cool name my way it sure didn't fit that humorless under powered wizard at all. Oddly I never said it out loud before I discovered that I had been pronouncing it wrong to myself.
Gandalf thumb magic trick is pretty much what I think of his level of magical power. No I have not reread TLOTR. I did read the Hobbit a second time and found that skipping over the Elf songs improved it a lot. Were they worth reading, yes, twice, no. However my pocketbooks were worn out by my brother and friends. I bought them so long ago that they still had the printing numbers on the copyright pages. I think they were in the low 60s. I had the Ace version of one volume of LOTR. Ace didn't pay Tolkien as it had not been copyrighted in the USA. I bought it used. I think it was The Two Towers.
hmm Like you i am normally a 2,7 because i choose to be. I can dip into 4 aka pinky and the brain mode. I am also the Reading is magical, more so because i reread ALOT some up to 20+. I rarely buy a a book unless i intend to read it again. Sadly Libraries' going away from physicals has cut down on my attempt at new books. Oh in HS i had a paperback lit class where i got to read ... 2k pages for an A i read 20k+ per 9 weeks ( i could claim reading as homework.... Joy) Like someone above i have many Tolkien books from my PB boxed set i bought at 12-3 and wore out. PB Hb and 2 all in one versions( not the red one :() and 2 1st ed Silmarillion hb. oh and i read Gandalf as Gran daf and carried that forward until i was in university. oops.
Since you're not in England experiencing heavy rationing in the 1940s [at least, last I checked you didn't have a TARDIS], you might be disappointed by Turkish delight. It's pretty much pure sugar. [Unless you like pure sugar, in which case, you'll probably love it.] Also, the pronunciation meme is why I'm going to have a pronunciation guide at the start of my stories. My average day is a 1 on the Calvin scale, just kind of 'meh'. At least I don't actually have to go to school, nor do I have to wait for a bus. 🤣 But today I'm a 2 as well, and when I'm out in public I feel like an 8. 😎 As for star signs, I'm a Leo, and......well, this is awkward, because I'm a sex-repulsed ace. 😅 According to this meme, I'm more of a Sagittarius or a Pisces.
Wait, can people not know their star sign? I dont even believe in anything related to that, but just feels like something everyone knows here (I'm from Brazil)
My favourite book meme is a boromir classic... One does not simply read TWILIGHT...twice There is a hitler bunker meme video about a book but I cannot find it...its all way the batman v superman or the suicide squad memes.
Normally I am a 2 on the Calvin Scale. Today I am a 1 or 5 as I may be starting a new job soon after being off for months. I wish to be an 8. It's not hoarding if it's books.
Reading books and collecting books are two separate hobbies. 😁 As for the Calvin scale... as a neuro-spicy individual, sadly, I can achieve almost all of these daily. As a cusp kid, I'm happily both a Hermiting Crab and a Booktrovert. lol
Reading slumps should be classified as one of the circles of hell.
I remember the first time I had to say "citadel" out loud, when I had never heard the word, only read it in novels. I said "kitidel" and was laughed at. That was 20 years ago and I still remember that from time to time.
This wouldn't have been while DMing a Superhero TTRPG would it?
So many books, so little time is my book pin
Same! 😃
charcuterie - shar koo te ri

“Oh this one looks good too! Nevermind it wasn’t good and you will never see it”
You of all people should realize how cruel that was Merphy.
Merphy, this was exactly the video I needed at the moment, so thank you! Also I got "Books are purr-fect" for my star sign. I think it fits since I have 3 cats
2025 challenge: every quarter read a book of that physical tbr

The star sign reading habits one got me so good, definitely a Booktrovert.

This is one of the best channels on your Discord ;)
Thumbnail on my phone I thought the T Rex one was a Dresden reference 😂

The call outs for knowing words but not knowing how to pronounce them! My life. 🤣
Judge a book/film not by the quality of its cover/poster but by the quality of memes it produces.
The charcuterie board undulates.....
YAAAYYY return of the bookish memes 🎉🎉🎉
I am usually either a 7 or a 9 on the Calvin scale, no in between lol. Today I'm a 12 because I have my first cold of the season and being sick makes me sooo angry.
Shar-koo-teh-ree
All fantasy foods look delicious.
"Gimli looked disgusted "Cram"
About all that can be said for cram is that it is filling and keeps well.

Merph, you can't just end it like that. WHAT'S THE MEME?
That's funny...I initially picked 4 too!
1 or if I'm looking at the woman I love 3 & though I think I'm expressing all of these at different times people tell me that I'm mostly 1, because my expressions don't always match my feelings.

I liked the Booktrovert pin the most, though it does not line up with my sign.
lol the hotline is so funny 😂
Noooo, how did I miss this? I had a bunch of good book memes ready to send in 🙁
Reading is Magical for me but I don't know how true that is because I just started reading this year and hasn't developed a particular taste for a genre yet but It would be so accurate If I grown to be a fantasy freak.
as someone who has three copies of LotR (deluxe single volume, paperback three volume, and one in french), that tolkien books one killed me
Old school reader here, have you ever read The chronicles of Thomas covenant. Wondering as I'm re-reading it now.
Now that I know your star sign, I understand everything, we have the same one.
6:23 that's literally me
Lately it seems to a 9 on the Calvin Scale… not that I fully understand it.
Ethereal was my only-seen-never-heard word until I was like 20...

My regular Calvin rotates between 3, 6, and 9. Today, I am sick, so I'm a 12. 🤧
I am and I am the croc pin.😂

Despite knowing how to say it, I still mispronounce it about half the time haha
Did you end up DNFing Absolution?
Working 12, not working 7.
Fun fact, charcuterie boards are literally butchers boards
That word literally means butcher in French that word, is just the noun form of the job Butcher
🧡📚🧡📚🧡📚🧡
Normally I am a 2 on the Calvin Scale. Today I am a 1 or 5 as I may be starting a new job soon after being off for months. I wish to be an 8.
It's not hoarding if it's books.
I am booktrovert then
Reading is Magical for me also for birthday pin
Turkish delight is nasty 🤮 (I hear) but also always wanted to try b/c of LW&W
WHAT? growing up it was my friend groups favourite candy! I am shocked
Bucky! You can't say something is nasty unless you've actually tried it! 😂
you pronounced memes wrong...not really
Reading books and collecting books are two separate hobbies. 😁
As for the Calvin scale... as a neuro-spicy individual, sadly, I can achieve almost all of these daily.
