  • Hi all !
If this is your fist time on the channel - welcome! My name is Ryan - and I've been a student of Chinese for 10+ years, and a Cinephile since first watching Bruce Lee films as a little one. I love the history, street food, and culture of China - and because of this have also traveled extensively in China. Most recently, I've found it quite enjoyable sharing my experiences with viewers online who haven't had the opportunity to do so themselves!
In this video, we're in Shanghai China. As one of the most modern cities in the world, its sometimes difficult to experience "old China", and I've been searching these places out. Shanghai was established as a city around the 1200's, and although really only rose to prominence in the 1900's, has a significant history and culture that can be found if only we search for it.
In this video, we take a walking tour through the history, street food, and culture of Shanghai Old Road 上海老街! Its one of the oldest roads in Shanghai, and traces its roots back to the original establishment of the city. It has a tangible "slower" feel to it, with storefronts than are hundreds of years old, people selling items on the street the way they have for all of history, and a feeling that can't be found in most places in Shanghai.

Great vid, Ry! Them boarded up windows tho’… looks like maybe the lockdowns killed off a lot of the businesses? And that noodle guy certainly was a 帅哥, most handsome fellow in all Shanghai! Stay blessed and keep the vids coming!
