Test CAN BUS with a Picoscope | Reading the CAN BUS Waveform | CAN BUS diagnostics with Picoscope

In this video we will show you how to test the Powertrain CAN-BUS (C-CAN) using a Picoscope. Multimeter can be used to check the CAN-BUS, but it is not very accurate and it does not read the waveform too. So in this video you will see how you can get and read the CAN-BUS waveform, how to analyze it, and how it would be like if there is any fault one the CAN-BUS.

Ok. So I am at the very beginning stages of Picoscope diagnosis. I understand how to see a good can high and low… in my case I have an intermittent Can high issue. I can see the waveform change when the issue happens.. so now, question is, what do i do next to narrow down the location of the issue/cause of the issue? Can you recommend another video?

Good work, but please how did you create the short to ground on CAN high,i mean the connection

Thanks, I actually had no commutation with many units on my scan tool which can be from the CAN-Bus, so when I checked it, I saw that somebody screwed another wiring harness under the dash which caused short to ground on CAN-Bus as CAN-High insulator had been damaged by that screw. I removed the screw but before fixing the damaged wire, I made this video and used a piece of wire and an alligator clip to show the fault to you guys.

You can do that to see how short to ground in the CAN-High can affect the CAN-Low.

which picoscpe model you use that is suitable for testing can bus ?

This one was Hantek, it can measure the waveform of CAN-Bud as well but there are better options in the market.
