    This is something that these days, you definitely do not see abandoned too often. Do you have an abandoned Albertsons near you? If not, what grocery stores do you have abandoned near you? Let's chat!

      Yes, I do actually but not a repurposed one rather than a closed one. I live right around the corner from a former Albertsons that is now a middle eastern grocery store. Albertsons pulled out of the Houston area in 2002 or so, and sold many of their locations to either Kroger or Safeway-owned Randalls (which ownership of these stores would go full circle due to the Albertsons/Safeway merger).

      @@christiangonzales7429 It's crazy how they kept divesting locations to each other back then. Happened a lot between 1990 and 2005 even here in Cheyenne!

      @@christiangonzales7429 Yeah, seemingly. I guess part of it at the time was also legal constraints, but seeing what they did the decade following, I think you said it best.

      In the day, definitely were more widespread further south based on what I have heard about their past!

      Thanks! fortunately, Albertsons isn't all gone. They are still the parent company of loads of stores including Safeway. They do still have some stores including the two here in Cheyenne, and at least the ones here, I don't foresee disappearing anytime soon. That being said though, it was also one of the main stores I always went to as a kid and still is today.

    that is interesting how alberstsons closed, since it bigger one

    • @Optopolis
      @Optopolis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is definitely of decent size. I would say it looks as big if not bigger than the Safeway at Cole Shopping Center in Cheyenne, Wy (don't quote me, I never did measurements to see) and that was a decent sized store.

    So King Soopers basically killed this Albertsons... just like the graffiti on the window said "All wrong!"

      lol. I wouldn't say it was the main cause, but it couldn't have helped any, and the timing suggests it was at least an influence for the choice to close. In my research, it was said that the vicinity could easily handle having the two supermarkets.
      In addition, around the same time frame, they were starting to close loads of other Albertsons in Colorado. They weren't dying since the year after this closure, they bought Safeway, but they weren't doing the greatest at that point either. Even at that point in time after the weird dual Albertsons company chaos was solved, I still had several occurances of seeing out-of-date food on the shelf at locations up here in Cheyenne (although I guess that doesn't speak for this specific location so I'd need a regular from the time and that store who could confirm or deny this possibility).
