It is useful and important to have this question tabled. It is clearly ridiculous that a private corporation could propose to charge Scottish individuals to take leisure in Scottish waters. This goes significantly against the right of access which exists in Scotland, and is a great characteristic of Scotland. If this charge should not be ruled out by our politicians, the public would consider that the politicians had lost sight of their main task. Private corporations should also be aware that imposing charges on individuals would bring them substantial liabilities for services to those individuals. Any accident or incident in these waters would be placed against those taking payment for maintenance and access to these waters.
The Firth of Clyde is not a port! If it was just ports run by Peel Ports, that would be defensible, as people could choose to use a different Port or other facility (of which there are many in the Firth of Clyde). For a commercial entity to be allowed to charge a blanket fee for anyone to use a huge chunk of Scotland's Coastal waters, whether at one of Peel Ports' facilities or not - this is the only marine area accessible to many users - is a completely different thing, and the fact some MSPs either don't understand or don't care about the distinction is regrettable.
Massive cop out !! The answer is very simple , we the boating community simply tell PP what they can do with their fee. this is nothing less than modern day piracy !!
