- Join us as we explore Proverbs 31:10-31, moving beyond the checklist mentality to discover the true meaning of this passage. Is it about an ideal woman, or is it something else? We'll discuss how this text speaks to women today, and also men, offering a powerful vision of strength, wisdom, and the fear of the Lord.
You reference military language “plunder her enemies” in the text. I don’t see that phrase in the text. Am I missing something? I did notice the mention of “strength in her arms” and “strength and dignity are her clothing” and I understand your point about the strength of women, biblically. Please clarify where you get the phrase “plunder her enemies”, I’d love to dig deeper with this phrase. Thank you.
Verse11 says "The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain."
The word "gain" in Hebrew is this word שָׁלָל which more literally can be translated as "booty" or "spoils" as in "spoils of war. That reinforces the heroic (even warrior!) imagery of this poem. This woman is strong. She brings back plunder!
That Hebrew word again שָׁלָל transliterated šā·lāl
Thanks again for your question. I'm behind on posting the full sermons of the proverbs study but if you're interested you can watch them here: www.vbvf.org/the-heroic-wife-proverbs-lesson-39#gsc.tab=0
