I was at this show. :) I don't remember most of it being great, and I'm pretty sure I missed the pre-show stuff all together. Especially since I know I'd remember seeing Angle before he was known. My favorite thing was the Hardys vs E&C. Such a great precursor to what would come in the near future. I also got to meet Hayes and The Hardys the day before at a local wrestling store. Matt and Jeff were really nice and Hayes was funny.
This was also the KOTR that brought back the traditional 8 man tournament as opposed to the 4 man tourney. I believe this was also the first ppv after Owen passed.
The last point was key. I was watching both wcw and wwf back then. I NEVER ordered a wcw ppv. It had nothing to do with loyalty or preference. It was because I felt that wcw was going to give me ppv matches on nitro but wwf was going to either have crazy gimmicks that I wouldn't see on raw or a crazy angle on ppv. They were much better at saving stuff for ppv than wcw
Do cover this year G1 climax please i would like to hear your opinions especially how incredible Block A talent is and also how equally awesome block B is. Seriously i am pretty stoked about this year G1 climax.
Watching this makes me appreciate this era a bit more. Hell dare I say all the ppvs so far this year & at least most in recent years were miles better then this one in 99 as well as pretty much most of them. Except maybe Fully Loaded that was good.
Here's another fact: Just to show how much the WWE valued the tournament, all of the qualifying matches were held on Sunday Night Heat in the weeks leading up to the event. I guess WWE had to make room for the "Higher Power" nonsense on Raw.
I don't think King of the Ring would work in today's wwe, as you know they won't treat it like something important. Everyone will remember Bad News Barrett winning it, awful just awful.
You can't really rate buyrates in correlation to the quality of the show since you buy the show before you watch it. Whether or not it sucked those people still paid for the show so buyrate matters more when looking at the wider context of audience confidence in being entertained, of which WCW was clearly faltering.
Since KOTR is essentially the previous equivalent as to winning the MITB lader match. Imagine today if you had such a bad choice to be the MITB winner as Billy Gunn as the KOTR winner. I think that it's easy to say that Baron Corbin has more upside to him then Mr. Ass.
I always wondered why HHH didnt have a match on this PPV, they were building him up as a top guy and he just misses the event for no reason? I know he cost The Rock the title later in the night, but surely they could have put him in the KOTR matches?
@@ZombieSlayer-dj3wb This was June 1999. 3 years after the curtain call and way after HHH days in the dog house. He would win the world title 7 weeks after this show yet he isnt even on the card here.
Tyler King I thought it was a good Mania, because I actually like wrestling. But yeah, some other thous matches (Rollins v. Triple H) went way too long.
The night Kurt Angle got some meat.
I didn't know Kurt Angle was in the WWF that long. I thought he started on Survivor series 1999.
@@shanequinichett2936People often get dark tryout matches before getting televised debuts.

5:05 but the biggest question is... who threw the pie on Kevin Owens' face?

billy Gunn could've been something special in wwe I mean he had a great career don't get me wrong but he could've been a multi time wwe champion
This was also the KOTR that brought back the traditional 8 man tournament as opposed to the 4 man tourney. I believe this was also the first ppv after Owen passed.
I just legit recall that Raw after this show and how they never did mention anything about who raised that briefcase.
RIP Chyna. The real womens revolutionaire.
The Rock buried the winner of this Pay-Per-View. '...My name is Billy...and everyone thinks that I totally SUCK!...'
for the questions that weren't answered you forgot
Who threw the pie at Kevin Owens
#BringBackKOR
Notice how the most popular wrestling era had little wrestling and was more focused on angles and story
Nice vid Adam
Nobody:
WhatCulture: "WHEEST YOUR PIE HOLES!"
Did Plumpy just say '2 time olympic gold medal winner'??
I mean Kurt has 2 medals... So...

Can't tell if Kane is that much smaller then Big Show, or if Kane lost weight during '99....
My grandparents bought the ppv for me and my bro to watch on our trip to P.R. great times...
I remember being there in attendance. As a 17yr old kid I loved it.
"The Okada and Omega 2 of its day" lmao that made laugh
Big Show should've won this tournament.
Any show where Rock and Stone Cold both lost in this era was fantastic

To be honest the first half of 1999 is the only bad patch of the attitude era

It's mad to think that billy gunn was 36 years old in 1999
nothing ruins a good WC video like having to hear king ross at the end.
why are you doing these KOTR videos? is the KOTR returning or something?
last week wwe relieved who was the one behind gtv it was Corey graves
So when you say that Shawn Stasiak did not win often with that gimmick, you mean WWE showed people beating Meat regularly

Nope, Kurt Angle is not a two time Olympic gold medalist.
I thought Jeff Jarrett was supposed to be the one who raised the briefcase?
7:04 Actually, King Ross, I got that one right.
The 4v4 women's Survivor Series elimination match at Survivor Series 1995 lasted 10:01. Aja Kong > Chyna. But I suppose that was obvious.
linesinaconversation "First women to have a singles women match go over 10 minutes". 4v4 isn't a singles match.
Yes because pointlessly quick matches don't happen in the New Era.
Who threw the pie at KO?
You have do one on the 2002 KOTR
First it was "I miss the Attitude Era" now it's "The Attitude Era was overrated" like make your minds up.

You realize both of WCW's so called "BAD PPV BUYRATES" are higher than anything of today right?
Blame the short matches on Vince Russo. The writer who didn't know how to book wrestling.
Well, he would be gone from the WWF and off to WCW around Rebellion in October.
" Multicolored vomit "
Okay what in the hell the young bucks wear , then ?
"multicolored playdough vomit" - Or, The Young Bucks current attire.

How long does Adam have to be Plumpy?
WCW's buyrates that year after SuperBrawl really sucked, so I'm not shocked to see those bad Bash buyrates.
why would you compare ppv numbers between WWF and WCW?
15 Matches in 4 Hours. "That's too long." But 8 long boring matches at this year's Mania. "It was a good Show." Fucking Marks
Tyler King I thought it was a good Mania, because I actually like wrestling. But yeah, some other thous matches (Rollins v. Triple H) went way too long.
Winning tournaments was meant to push stars but why do most of these superstars just fall flat after winning?
