Becoming a VTuber is either A: get accepted by a company, which is stressful and has it’s drawbacks, or B: go independent. If you chose B you now have two new options to pick from, either A: do everything yourself which is a really really really long process, or B: outsource everything, which is really really really expensive. Becoming a VTuber is really really really hard, so you shouldn’t do it if you’re not really really really serious about it. (Maybe start off as a pngtuber first, or just stream normally without a face cam first if you’re not completely sure?)
Ive always wanted to use a model that i drew myself, in my own "Cartoon meets slightly anime" art style But, yeah, the rigging part is holding me back because i cannot for the life of me figure out Live2D, let alone care enough to buy the full version Ill probably just pay someone to rig it for me if i ever want to try V-Tubing
Okay but I love how much emphasis you put on the artists and riggers who make vtuber models, cuz I feel like a lot of the time people don't realize how much work is put into that
If Step 3 exists for you, skip Step 2. If you're going to regret not doing it, do it. The "don't" is advice for people who thought it was going to be easy to do, with no stress or time investment beyond streaming itself, and maybe an easy revenue stream. If you're committed to it even knowing already how hard it is, you're the kind of person who should do it.
I cant remember the EXACT wording, but Geega had a great reply for this sort of question. It was something along the lines of: Its summer time and kids are out of school, bored, and stupid. Go get a summer job!
Steps to making a vtuber if you wanna make it yourself Get app software that can export .psd Make sketch of character Draw character 1 time Draw character again but separate every piece of clothing and part of said character and things you normally wouldn't be able to see into different layers, yes, sometimes this applies to lineart too sometimes Shade said parts of the character, also, in different layers depending on the part Make sure there's no mistakes Go into live 2d Suffer through heirarchy, parameters, meshes, and layers and movements not looking right and crying about it for the next week How to get vtuber model: Pay a large sum of money to an artist and rigger :)
They likely are asking what software you're using for tracking. xD There's well over 20 different versions of software for vtubers to track them, rig them, and even create. So I think the question was more in that direction.
Nah. If they would've asked that, they could've just googled it. There are like two softwares people use for the most part for the tracking and one for rigging. For the tracking everyone has to decide by themselves which they prefer. Just because VTuber x uses software x, doesn't mean that the person who asked should use software x.
I'm pretty sure if they genuinely meant that, they would just ask that. Like, why be so generic? Why not actually say, "Hey, I was wondering what tracking software do you use?", not just, "What app are you using for your vtuber?". Seriously. Also Google is a thing
@@CrunchCrunchCrunchyCrunch But it's their choice to use the same software as someone they know has experience in it, people are more likely to trust others they know
@@aprettydumbperson Then they should still specifically ask "What software are you using for tracking?" and not "what software are you using?" since software can mean ANYTHING for vtubers. Software for the drawing, software for the rigging, software for the tracking or, the case which is probably meant when people ask in such generic ways, "Softwares which give you a full rigged model which you can stream with immediately".
@@CrunchCrunchCrunchyCrunch If I asked what software someone's using, it's likely because I like the results and want a similar outcome. If you're a beginner and don't know the good setups, asking around is how you learn. I've had artists or people who want to learn drawing ask me what I use for my art, since they don't know where to start since there's a lot of stuff out there. Sometimes it's easy to get overwhelmed and you just want to see what someone else chooses to use.
Wooo, luckily I have experience creating, rigging, and animating 3d models. Now if only I had an entertaining personality instead of crippling anxiety.
I'm also a 3D artist. In my case the problem would be the program for the tracking. I don't know what programs there are so my only option that I also know is free would be creating it with any game engine that supports opencv and several hours of debugging, crying and praying so that it finally works.
Tbf, there is actually a couple tools with generic models, which can almost function like a rather limited video game character creator, but they're nothing like the beautiful and complicated wizardry you're benefiting from currently
I played around with vroid a bit, I could already tell that if you do that professionally you should get paid high because it's so annoying when something don't work.
It depends on the company, for Hololive and Nijisanji they have pre-made models that they hire talent to use, but idol and Phase Connect are 2 examples of agencies that let you pick an artist to design your model. Source: the audition page of the agency websites

(Again) Some people rather ask other people they like instead of reading through 4 different web pages with 4 different answers.
That's why i became a gacha tuber on my other acc bc it's the easiest after like recording the process is easy 1) make characters(gacha is a dress up game so really easy) and once you make them you have them till deleting them 2) choose a background 3) position the characters 4) screenshot 4.5) now this is optional edit the photo if you want or crop some of it I need to do this step since I'm using a modded version 5) optional again writing words on the screenshot if the peach bubbles annoy you 6) repeat till you finish the story you wanted to make 7) use a video software like kinemaster or capcut 8) you should probably put some music in it I recommend you don't need to it's just better that way 9) after 1 hour-a week you should be done now smile knowing you have 5 subs and like 18 videos
Or maybe people have already looked around, seen the different software that can be used, and then thought, "Rin's software works quite well, I wonder what they use?"

@@vivaldi_is_dreamingWith all due respect I don't understand how you can assume all that from such a seemingly harmless question. I'm an artist and to me it sounds more equivalent to asking which art supplies I use. I genuinely have never met someone who thinks art programs do all the work for them, and if those people actually exist that just makes me wonder what their education was like to make such a braindead assumption.
As someone who has gotten half a rig done I can confirm: THAT SHIT TAKES FUCKING FOREVER
These shorts have been incredibly entertaining AND informative at the same time. Thank you, MY LIEGE.
Been watching a friend working on their own Vtuber model, including the rigging, and even just watching I can feel their suffering 😭
Every video is you complaining
It is, that's what i like about it
When Britain first, at heaven's command
Arose from out the azure main
Arose arose from out the azure main
This was the charter, the charter of the land
And guardian angels sang this strain
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
Still more majestic shalt thou rise
More dreadful from each foreign stroke
More dreadful, dreadful from each foreign stroke
As the loud blast, the blast that tears the skies
Serves but to root thy native oak
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
Still more majestic shalt thou rise
More dreadful from each foreign stroke
More dreadful, dreadful from each foreign stroke
As the loud blast, the blast that tears the skies
Serves but to root thy native oak
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
The Muses, still with freedom found
Shall to thy happy coasts repair
Shall to thy happy, happy coasts repair
Blest isle regardless, with countless beauty places
And manly hearts to guard the fair
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves
Britons never, never, shall be slaves
Pin of shame
and Im learning sht too lmao
and the voice and accent is just perfect for these kinds of videos lmao
Hell yeah rin shorts are back
Meanwhile: Fillian uses VR chat and a vive to become a Vtuber
And her model is a free one too
Big brain mode
Also why phone game companies are using her fame to promote their game using the same free model and there is nothing she can do about it.
@@XodabeefIt's not free at all, it's 7000 yen. She even got into a copyright dispute because she completely forgot she's a recolored Rindo and started selling merch without the artist's permission.
I would have asked that question though, as there could be multiple programs for face tracking and i don't know which one you'd use nor enough about Vtubing to know how to figure it out. Anyway, thank you for answering :)
I might try to make a tiny stickman and rigg it for fun to see just how difficult rigging can be. It seems hellish, those artists are incredible.
Another banger from rintok
I wasn’t gonna think about becoming a VTuber until you said “don’t”
every one of your real talk shorts is golden
No, no, that's an accurate depiction of how rigging works
There is actually a software that lets you create a model that is free to use for stream things just like it is a videogame character creator
Not as beautiful fancy and personalized as full rigged model like yours but when you don't have the resources itd actually a really good solution
Vroid Studio or Reality?
imo vroid models with enough time and effort can look just as good as live 2D, some people even prefer vroid to live 2D. Personally though, I still like 2D models better but I do acknowledge how impressive vroid models can look
@@irlenananYeah they can, but sometimes you have to have some knowledge of how all that stuff works too. It took me ages to figure out some of it and I'm still not perfect at it. It's tough.
@@irlenanan Or you can spend hours learning 3D modeling and rigging to have a 100% custom 3D model instead!
@Ena I've been looking into all the stuff, having some guidance to just play with to try and figure out if it is something to seriously consider or if it is not worth it for me. Test the waters before jumping in with even the financial side.
I like to imagine that riggers is litteraly wizards that use black magic to make models move.
if only making your v-tuber model WAS like a dress-up game 😂
Becoming a VTuber is either A: get accepted by a company, which is stressful and has it’s drawbacks, or B: go independent. If you chose B you now have two new options to pick from, either A: do everything yourself which is a really really really long process, or B: outsource everything, which is really really really expensive. Becoming a VTuber is really really really hard, so you shouldn’t do it if you’re not really really really serious about it. (Maybe start off as a pngtuber first, or just stream normally without a face cam first if you’re not completely sure?)
My compliments to those who made your avatar and the rigging for it. One has to at least give credit where it's due.
You showed rigging as magic and your God damn right. I don't know what I'm doing but it works
Technically there is a vtuber creation software, it’s just not for Live2D though XD. (Real)
I guess VRoid could count? It is 3D tho
@@froog6957there’s also reality! but it’s also 3d
Ive always wanted to use a model that i drew myself, in my own "Cartoon meets slightly anime" art style
But, yeah, the rigging part is holding me back because i cannot for the life of me figure out Live2D, let alone care enough to buy the full version
Ill probably just pay someone to rig it for me if i ever want to try V-Tubing
She really trynna destroy competition by thwarting its uprising.
editing was hilarious, thanks for the laugh.
Okay but I love how much emphasis you put on the artists and riggers who make vtuber models, cuz I feel like a lot of the time people don't realize how much work is put into that
I have a similar carnal desire to slam my head on a loose nail whenever someone I've never met before says "You're an artist? Can you draw me?"
Can listen to rin all day such a soothing voice she's so cut throat it's great.
Whatever the opposite of inspiration is, this is that
The answer? Reversed Inspiration, because I STILL WANNA VTUBE. :)
Wizard here, can confirm, rigging is an arcane art and the magic school I go to is going to open classes in it
I liked Step 2, but I think there’s a secret Step
Step 3: Regret
I think that's the alternative for Step 2
If Step 3 exists for you, skip Step 2. If you're going to regret not doing it, do it. The "don't" is advice for people who thought it was going to be easy to do, with no stress or time investment beyond streaming itself, and maybe an easy revenue stream. If you're committed to it even knowing already how hard it is, you're the kind of person who should do it.
Nop its sleep
I cant remember the EXACT wording, but Geega had a great reply for this sort of question. It was something along the lines of: Its summer time and kids are out of school, bored, and stupid. Go get a summer job!
Steps to making a vtuber if you wanna make it yourself
Get app software that can export .psd
Make sketch of character
Draw character 1 time
Draw character again but separate every piece of clothing and part of said character and things you normally wouldn't be able to see into different layers, yes, sometimes this applies to lineart too sometimes
Shade said parts of the character, also, in different layers depending on the part
Make sure there's no mistakes
Go into live 2d
Suffer through heirarchy, parameters, meshes, and layers and movements not looking right and crying about it for the next week
How to get vtuber model:
Pay a large sum of money to an artist and rigger :)
Instead of punching your monitor, punch me instead.
The respect I have for vtubers and the people who make them rises every time I get to laugh at people who have no idea how hard vtubing is.
I don't think I'll take step two alternative, ill rig it myself and see how bad my creativity is 😂😂
They likely are asking what software you're using for tracking. xD There's well over 20 different versions of software for vtubers to track them, rig them, and even create.
When there's a challenge, there is someone powerful enough to try and overcome it.
Every vtuber model was created by a wizard
honestly props to the artists
The urge to spend hours on making my own just bc you told me not to is astonishing
the fact that your phone and computer cost twice as much as my living expenses per year doesn't heart either
Step 2 is open your wallet like an adult and pay for the multiple custom services you require immediately.
"step 2 is don't" definitely, the market is already getting oversaturated.
Arigatou gozaimasu. Here's your crown 👑
I played around with vroid a bit, I could already tell that if you do that professionally you should get paid high because it's so annoying when something don't work.
Do Vtubers get to choose the appearance of their model?
Do you have to come up with a concept that fits you?
How was your experience?
It depends on the company, for Hololive and Nijisanji they have pre-made models that they hire talent to use, but idol and Phase Connect are 2 examples of agencies that let you pick an artist to design your model.
Source: the audition page of the agency websites
"What app are you using for your VTuber?"
*Takes psychic damage*
You can still try it out with a cheaper public model like Filian or Neuro started out.
not me doing my own model in just 3 days THAT LOOKS PRETTY DOPE TO ME----
Either
A. She cares about others well-being
B. She doesn't want competition
Ah yes my very own vtuber model, a complete rip of rins model but with hairy pasty legs resembling my own and a cowboy hat
love the vid Rin, but quick question,
what app are you using for your vtuber?
So you want to die then huh 😅
Step 3 is ignoring step 2 just to spite Rin.
I like how any sort of creator is hell-bent on gate-keeping their profession from others
"Step two is don't" 😂😂😂
This tells me that you care about and appreciate the artists who do this.
Thank you for that.
I like how the rigger is depicted as a wizard
You have a character card in Koikatsu and it really helps me makes my stress go away. Thanks for your character creator, your amazing personality and the one who created the Koikatsu card.
Why on earth would you post this
"Step 2: Don't."
Too late for me, I'm afraid... :3
Ah yes, the rigging wizard preforming his dark necromancy to bring the chopped up Vtuber to life
Instructions unclear joined Live2D discord and commissioned a model
My friend and i are making our own vtuber models and oh to the lords the project was getting longer than we thought. They had a few months hiatus just to fix and rig their model and i was stuck on intricately designing mine. They are correct, making one is painstakingly hard
I watched a TH-cam video once of someone making and animating a model from scratch and the time it took is a lot longer than one might think and I personally think that the people who make and animate these models really need more credit.
I’m
Gonna do it I have way too much power from social media buddies
That's why you should only ask " how British are you feeling today?"
these are so fucking well made.
Holy shit. So toxic. "What app/program are you using?" That would be the same wording i would use without every having the desire to become a vtuber or any kind of "public person".
Good to know that beeing interested in something new and wanting to know how it works and what differences might exist is allready reason enough for you to want to resort to violence. Holy shit. (Again)
Some people rather ask other people they like instead of reading through 4 different web pages with 4 different answers.
That's why i became a gacha tuber on my other acc bc it's the easiest after like recording the process is easy
1) make characters(gacha is a dress up game so really easy) and once you make them you have them till deleting them
2) choose a background
3) position the characters
4) screenshot
4.5) now this is optional edit the photo if you want or crop some of it I need to do this step since I'm using a modded version
5) optional again writing words on the screenshot if the peach bubbles annoy you
6) repeat till you finish the story you wanted to make
7) use a video software like kinemaster or capcut
8) you should probably put some music in it I recommend you don't need to it's just better that way
9) after 1 hour-a week you should be done now smile knowing you have 5 subs and like 18 videos
Or maybe people have already looked around, seen the different software that can be used, and then thought, "Rin's software works quite well, I wonder what they use?"
before i learned what vtubing was i genuinely thought it WAS that simple but then i grew some more common sense and as an artist i realised through terms i didn't understand yet that it wasn't as simple as i thought. then i started doing digital art. switched from traditional to digital. I'm a week into digital art. but then i had this delusional idea to learn how to rig vtuber models. I'm 2 days into learning how to work it. I'm having fun... it’s like art... i love drawing and painting but boy omg does it piss me off when it doesn't turn out how i planned.
I'm gonna join your next stream and ask this question respectfully.
A local vtuber told us in their livestream, if you can have a clean model and proper rigging with a budget under 2k, consider yourself lucky
