This episode was part of the franchise's 30th anniversary celebration.

I met David Silverman years ago at a showcase of Simpsons animation cells . It was also the book launch for Planet Simpson, which was basically societal commentary viewed through The Simpsons lens. Anyway, I was covering this show as a student journalist and I had been there all day interviewing people and taking pictures. The curator of the show which was the owner of a store called Animation Connection was so happy about the work that I put in and that I had been there all day, that he had David Silverman draw me a Mr Burns head in appreciation. I even got to take my picture with Mr Silverman and he was such a nice guy. Just the salt of the earth. I'm so glad you had him on.

It would be awesome if you guys could take a look at Invitation to the Dance (1956) - the final sequence has Gene Kelly dancing with animated characters in an animated world a whole 8 years before Mary Poppins did it, it's an incredible sequence!
The knowledge bombs that were dropped in this interview = 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Thanks so much for inviting Dave to deep dive into the Simpsons. I was a huge fan of the show throughout high school and college. Hard to believe 3D Homer was seen by the world BEFORE Toy Story, and that Toon Boom shares some its history with the show.
I've long wondered why, say, the moving arm of an HB cartoon character was a slightly different shade than the shoulder to which it was attached. I knew it was on a separate acetate sheet, but I never considered the "not so perfect" transparency of that plastic sheet would act as a "filter" to the cels and background plate beneath it, ever so slightly washing out those colors so an exact match was next to impossible. In retrospect, it makes so much sense! I now feel like an idiot!
The part I found interesting was the fact that any time you DON'T notice it on an older cartoon it's because they perfectly offset the color saturation on the sheets to compensate for that effect ... I hadn't thought about that before

David Silverman is such an amazing artist and important part of our leadership artistically at the Simpsons. We have been incredibly fortunate to have such a talented person who is so passionate about animation involved in the show from the very beginning. It is impossible to overestimate his contribution and the amount of the Simpsons' success that David is personally responsible for. He is also super fun to work with and at the same time holds all the artist to the very highest standards through his own commitment to excellence. I think that you can see a lot of that in this interview.
After watching this I went back and watched the first episode of the Simpsons. Man, it had so much heart, the entire episode you just feel so bad for Homer, and especially in our current economy it feels so easy to relate to him.
Funnily enough, as a child i used to have night terrors. One of them was an open space with giant shapes (Spheres, Pyramids etc). And then a year or so later, i see the 3d Simpsons episode. Once they went into the light and the 3d world appeared, i was freaking out because it was so similar to my nightmare. A true house of horrors for me as a kid.

The first 3D film shot in India - "My Dear Kuttichathan" has a couple of interesting scenes. One of the songs - "Aalippazham Perukkan" has a scene with the kids walking on the floor, walls and the ceiling as well as one with the swing going all around the room. Wikipedia says they actually got a rotating room for this - a bit like that Inception scene but back in 1984. I could find a dubbed video of this song by the title - "Rare Pearls-Chella Kuzhandhaigale" on TH-cam - same video, just language has changed. This movie did have a couple of other cool scenes which I do forget - it was a big deal back then and a lot of the older generation who were around when this film released still talk about it. It's gotten a few newer treatments (albeit with pretty poor CGI) since then where they've added a few scenes - something like what George Lucas did - but it's nowhere near the original. I think you guys would enjoy checking it out ! If nothing for that rotating room concept! Also - BIG fan of your videos!

I was messing around in the 3D software POVRay (a freeware Ray-Tracing program that had no GUI, but was line code driven and then rendered to see the results) back in the mid to early 90s and you could cheat soft phong shadowing by changing the surface to rubber or something similar. Ray tracing back then was all about phongs since there was no subsurface scattering. It was opacity, reflection, refraction and phong. With a more rubberized surface (compared to glass), the shadows could get soft.
I was also playing around with POVRay in those days...aiting for the render to complete only to see reflections on a non-reflective surface. I do not miss those days. Scenes that would have taken literally ALL DAY with POVRay can be created and rendered in blender in 30 minutes or less.
Some of those classic Simpsons episodes have absolutely gorgeous animation. One that comes to mind is the lighting in the flying hellfish episode. There's a scene where Bart lights a flare and it's just so friggin cool.
For everyone shouting at corridor to "drop the BetterHelp Sponsorship" it most likely is not as simple as just dropping them. Big channels like corridor often have multi-picture contracts just like movie studios. There could be a contract that corridor has to sponsor them for the next 10 or more videos, with pre-recorded and signed off cutaways just like this video. If they break their contract then they potentially lose millions and open themselves up for a lawsuit. Don't get me wrong. I don't agree with betterhelp either and do hope that once corridor have finished their current advertising contract, they review their partnership with them and step away. 🙏

such a lovely dude! thanks for crafting something that has been with me my whole life, the Simpsons is awesome and this interview was great! thanks all involved :) Also Monsters Inc is amazing!
Please stop supporting better help.
Yes, better have Respected titles or Free VPN.
Is that the company that's in the middle of a class action lawsuit for sharing customer confidential information?
I'm starting a company called Better Better Help. It's gonna be just like Better Help except......
Not as good
Why are you against a predatory company that pretends to deal with mental health while in reality just hires scammers to waste your time, money and harvest your information to sell?
Why arent you😂@HercadosP
Where did the comments about betterhelp go?
I don't know what this comment section was like 20 hrs ago, but anti-betterhelp comments are plentiful right now.
This guy has no idea how much he changed my life with this show.
The Simpsons has been like a friend that's always there to make me laugh even when life is hard! My All time favourite show
stop betterhelp comeon guys
What a talented, funny and incredible character! Sometimes you guys knocked it out of the park!
Such an honor to hear a pioneer like Silverman talking about his craft with this much passion and humility! Kudos guys!
Can’t believe they didn’t ask him about all the future predictions Simpsons had in their episodes.
Betterhelp...
Thank science for sponsor block
Spat my drink out when I saw the top right at 3:34
‘We started in May of 1989’
Talks about Lisa gaining her sax
“Is that a Bill Clinton reference” so young 😂
You guys really asked the right questions. As a lifelong Simpsons fan, this was just awesome to watch.
Great episode, except for Better Help. Ditch them.
what about them?
Some of those classic Simpsons episodes have absolutely gorgeous animation. One that comes to mind is the lighting in the flying hellfish episode. There's a scene where Bart lights a flare and it's just so friggin cool.
Kinda shitty they are still signed with Betterhelp
First time I’ve seen the voice actors! So cool. What amazing deep dive into the Simpsons.
are we going to see a portal short film soon?
DO NOT USE BETTER HELP THEY LEAK PERSONAL DATA!!!
I love the way you are taking this series, this is like a super good Simpson a documentary on its own
guys, you can get better sponsors then Better Help, they on some heavy controversy.
Love watching the Jordan's read ads. They're both super good at it (though I still skip often and appreciate the timer).
Great video but how can you justify a betterhelp sponsorship in 2024?
What a great episode. Especially, David Silverman's hair-cuts changing over the decades.
Wren's response to the 3D Homer stuff is so fun.
here in brazil we have a very famous singer and song writer called Alceu Valença. david silverman looks exactely like him
They both have long, dyed brown hair and grey facial hair, and sometimes wear hats, but other than that, I don't see a resemblance.
@@Mattened thats exactely it. those things make them look a lot like each other
You guys are so consistently good. Wish i could still afford to support you monetarily. I'm grateful you will post most of your stuff on YT. It says alot that ppl like this appeciate YOU.
Guys the sponsorship of betterhelp really hurts your credibility.
💔
I AGREE ITS SAD
They had multiple Raycon sponsorships where their earbuds were garbage but they still took the bag. Doesn't surprise.
@@LiftYourGame its different with raycon if the product sucks, Betterhelp is a service to help people with problems and in turn which is also their lives and also taking their info and using it maliciously just look it up there are so many videos on it
@@LiftYourGame At least the Raycons were a tangible thing. And they didn't sell your psychological issues to advertisers. Personally, I'd rather watch ads for Raid Shadow Legends than "Better" Help.
Great episode! David is a legend and responsible for so much entertainment over these many years.
Betterhelp ads are where I click away from videos. Too bad, I was truly enjoying this one.

It's weird how youtubers keep taking their money, even with their comment sections being filled with people who take _(righteous)_ offense to them. I'm aware that youtubing is hard these days but come on, you _gotta_ have some standards!
@@antisoda I'm sure there's plenty of companies out there willing to sponsor Corridor's excellent content. I'm not saying creators should scrutinize every single corporation that wants to partner with them, but sometimes sponsors are so blatantly misleading and full of malpractices that you just can't turn a blind eye to them.
The sponsorship was probably $X amount for Y video segments across a set period of time. Breaking the contract would get them sued so they’re not going to do that.
I love David's posts on twitter where he shares awesome nuggets of early Simpsons lore
13:35 "The Simpsons did it!" just reached a new level
He's my favorite guest you've ever had! That guy's got major charisma and charm!
