Nikola Jokic was selected with the 41st overall pick back. His selection was such a nonentity for ESPN that they chose to air a Taco Bell commercial during his selection. After 2 years in the NBA he rose to the Denver Nuggets franchise player while breaking numerous franchise records. He would go on to make consecutive NBA All Star Teams and dominate his position on a nightly basis. At just 26 years of age, the rise of Nikola Jokic has only begun, as he will continue to ascend as one of the best centers in the NBA.

Also he would have a lot more triple doubles if he would care about those. There's many games where he just quits (as in, coach benches him and he doesn't oppose) when then winner is already known and Jokic is something like one rebound away from a triple double. Some other player could tell the coach that he wants to go in for that one more rebound to get the triple double.

We call the times he misses a triple double by 1 rebound or 1 assist a Sombor double. He has for various reasons missed many triple doubles generally because he’s not interested in any stat but winning wether ESPN likes it or not.
I feel like I was the among the first ones to jump on the Jokic allstar bandwagon in 2017… but even I didn’t think he’d be LITERALLY back to back MVP.

Drafted 41st for being slow. I don't think any player in the history of the game has improved so much in so little time. From being a middle-tier prospect to, "OMG is this the best center since Wilt himself??"
It wasn’t his improvement bro, it was the fact that the NBA scouting community overlooked his skill level and made a poor evaluation of overall talent based on the fact he didn’t jump high and run fast. Obviously he’s gotten better, but to think he was developed into what he is now is really just kinda insulting! Same thing happened to Luka, only because of Jokic he didn’t drop as far. Luka was by far and away the most talented player in his draft, but because he didn’t jump high or run fast he wasn’t the first pick. Many in the scouting world and most fans today are enamored w the big dunks and highlight 30’ 3’s but don’t really understand the game of basketball. Fundamentally sound basketball players w above average athletic ability will generally outplay extremely gifted athletes that rely on said athleticism. What made MJ so great was he was both. Elite on both counts. Jokic is changing the game right now, showing how an elite “fundamental” skill set (attached to HUGE body 😎) can completely control the game in a way very few ever have. Yeah he’s gotten better, but his draft position was WAY undervalued. Really, his biggest jump probably came his MVP season at MEGA! Anyway, great video! Really made me think that another 5 years of this level of play and a coupla Chips should elevate him to the “GOAT” center of all time CONVERSATION….Dude is a BEAST, and we may not have seen the nest of him yet. That should terrify the rest of the NBA.
@@robshelden4670 luka and jokic are different. Jokic got better in his season after being drafted and stashed, so he played another season before going to the nba. Also Jokic was not nearly as good as Luka and it's not like he was the euroleague MVP he only played in his serbian league, And he was only REALLY good in his season AFTER being drafted while playing in Serbia where he won MVP of the serbian league.
@@robshelden4670 Agree. He developed optimal efficiency with his body. Every possible basketball move he adjusted to suits his body... For example Jordans signature shot fadeaway Jordan jumped high backward to avoid blocking... Jokić doesnt have to jump high and he doesnt jump at all he uses his height just lean little backward...

Thing that is not mentioned a lot about Jokić is his improvement on defensive end. He became a solid big man defender,and he raises that part of the game even more in the playoffs.

Jokic is such a great player Denver are a very lucky franchise to have him he’s scoring and passing is elite and he’s a very strong rebounder.
He’s all-round game consistency is just fantastic for a big man and really great to watch in a smaller market.

It wouldn’t work, or maybe it would but not as good as other duo, both Jokic and Doncic are ball dominant playmakers, just like Lebron and Westbrook, or Lebron and Wade, so Lebron and Wade went to 4 finals and won 2, but they werent the best fit because both of them are ball dominant playmaker/slasher/rim attacker, if prime Lebron had a prime Kyrie or players like Kawhi, Paul George, Dame, Harden or Klay Thompson they would have been way better than Lebron and Wade, and it’s the same for Jokic and Doncic, the best fit for them are 3 and D players, or an elite 2 ways big man for Doncic (Jokic doesnt really need one because he is the Big man), but give Doncic a prime AD, Giannis, Embiid or even Gobert and the MAVS go to the finals, watch next season with Javale Mcgee, he isn’t Gobert but he is an elite rim protector and elite pick and role player, perfect for Doncic and i think it will make a huge difference, but the West (and the whole league) is loaded right now so i don’t know, but yeah players like Doncic, Jokic, Lebron, Harden, Westbrook aren’t a great fit with other ball dominant players especially if they can’t shoot or play defense, but Jokic with a guy like Kawhi ? Man it’s over for the league.
