    Thanks for the walk-thru! I foresee replacing this on my Pontiac as well, since it has the original sensor.

    It is involved, but would love to see a video on replacing the intake manifold gaskets.

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Havnt had to do that yet. The head gaskets where replaced sometime before we got it and you could see fairly new intake gaskets. I might though if I decide to pull the intake off one day to do some work to it

      If i recall correctly since i havnt owned this car in sevral years i remember looking into changing them. There are 2. One on the passngers side front end of car around the filter. The other was drivers side oddly between the engine and firewall. If i recall correctly

    Hey bro I got a 99 grand am Gt, I replaced plugs wires and plugs, checked for vacuum leaks, check coils there fine, converter was stopped up so I took it off and welded straight pipe in, but I still get p300 code and it has a bad misfire, need to check injectors too, hit me ip

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      well sometimes cutting out the cats will still throw the codes because the downstreams are thorwing it since the flow is not correct. may have them removed with a tuner. check the egr and map. also pull out the plugs and see what they look like

    • @EfurdGarage

      Unfortunately i never found a way. i tried a few times but nothing. I sold this car years ago so i do not have access to see and try another way. That was on downfail of working on this car was the mount location. But it got easier each time.

      @@EfurdGarage Cool okay I have one those engine support bars I’ll just use that I guess I have to change the cam sensor the cars acting strange it cranks like forever then idles rough and sometimes stalls did it too me on the highway not reliable right now. I’m pretty sure it’s a bad can signal

      Notice the sensor you put in has a connection that disconnect. As far I can see on mine still mount in car etc and from another same body style grand am there is no connection to disconnect at the sensor end. Just wires going down into the top of sensor. Shit if my wires are bad you sensor would be better just take the wire type connection that was on yours and replace mine. I mean maybe I have bad wires not actual sensor. Now my GAGT is a 2000 3.4L. So did they change the design of the sensor / way the wiring hooks up at the sensor end ????

    I got a 3400 2002 grand am but i do not know what the crank and cam sensors wire runs to from the sensors. Any help? I got one under the fuel rail in the harness for the cam and i guess that is correct. I got one on the side of the block with some wires i guess they go to the coil but does it matter which end of the coil it plugs on? i cannot and do not see the other wire from the front pully down the side of the block there is no connector and i do not know what it looks like either.

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      typically most harnesses they make the wires so that they only reach a certain way, coils will matter. that is gonna to be a little hard if you dont see them. was they cat or the car damaged at some point?

    • @thorthunder3227
      @thorthunder3227 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EfurdGarage I found out part of the problem, the yellow wire was cut from the PCM in order to get it to crank and the main one i asked about i found three cut wires up in the harness down outside the air conditioner compressor, I found a plug and tied them onto the cut wires in order and now i am having a starting issue, No spark to the plugs. I traced a pink wire to the PMC from the coil pack which i assume it coes off the ign. module. which comes off one fuse under hood which i think it is activated by a ground i assume. I get real confused on the wiring diagrams as some of them change colors on the wires.

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thorthunder3227 wow it was hacked. Those can be hard to figure out. Sometimes its best to get a harness out of a donor car.

      @@EfurdGarage I know the car hit some water and blew a rod but never cranked afer that and i got it and found out the yellow wire to the ECM was cut and that allowed me to crank it over but no start. I had the bypass fixed for another key. All instruments light up, all the lights work but no start, fuel pressure good. I Know the ign fuse links to the ECM but i get a little lost on the coil pack area of wiring and how they are supposed to work. Does the BCM control the voltage to the coils to fire the plugs?

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thorthunder3227 ecm, cam and crank should control spark from what i remember. I can't recall if a knock sensor can cause that.

    I’m trying to figure out if my Pontiac grand am 2002 has a broken timing chain or camshaft position sensor is bad?? Any advice would help. Thank you

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Open you oil cap and turn the engine over. You will need another person. If you see the rockers moving in the valve cover the chain is not broken. If the chain is broken the engine spins over a bit faster then normal. The cam sensor is bad about the wiring do the the power steering pump sitting on it on the v6.

    • @jenconkright6975
      @jenconkright6975 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Efurd Garage Thank you for replying. Yes the rockers are moving. So a story. It overheated and I let it cool down then I started driving and it died in the turn lane after about 10 mins it started but the idle kept going up and down so I proceeded to the freeway drive it about 20 min and I lost acceleration and it shut off and hasn’t started since

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jenconkright6975over heating can cause sevral issues, check the coolant levels. Make sure there is no water in the oil. Pull the plugs and make sure there is no rust or thry didnt get to hot and damaged. I would also check the coolant temp sensor it could have become faulty and caused a wrong reading throwing alot off

    • @jenconkright6975
      @jenconkright6975 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Efurd Garage I just changed the plugs, wires, ignition coils, ignition control module, fuel filter and air filter cause I kept having a misfire. Some people are telling me it’s possibly the intake manifold gasket

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jenconkright6975 typically that would cause rough idle and loss of power. a miss fire is mostly caused by spark or fuel, if you have just one or maybe 2 it would be injectors. since you replaced everything else. a stretched chain can cause missing in multiple cylinders.
