No joke, the chorus is amazing. It's something I'd listen to on repeat if it were to be released as a single or maybe in a future album. The ending of the song could also be great released as a separate song, even though its just a small part of it. I love the chorus and the ending
Please, I need more videos of just you talking about your music, I want to know the things that went through your mind whilst making music, I love the depth and the healing of your own emotions with each song. I love these sorts of videos, it helps me get a better understanding.
7:12 “NO CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS” is actually the realest thing I’ve ever heard as someone who tries to write music and half the time it’s kind of nonsense
the fact that the song is about missing your chance because you waited too long thinking and then part of it not being released was because he overthought i needing to be perfect ;-; genuinely so heartfelt and cathartic tho thank you for sharing!!
as a (struggling) musician, there are some parts of this that i can understand why they weren't released - but the ending is something else man. i think it'd be cool if you released that as just an interlude for a future album; less than a minute, raw, emotional, gets everybody crying, and is a nice reset before the next full song. nevertheless you are such an inspiration and videos like this are what i live for
So like no joke, I would listen to this song on repeat. I def understand why it never happened for the album… but as a single OR EVEN YOU AND A PIANO WOULD BE GREAT AS A CHANGE
James please release this, edit it or change the fact you dislike and please please release this, the end is to beautiful, even if you do something with a piano your voice is so soothing and calming with it
every time James slides on his vocals- it’s my favorite thing his voice sounds so smooth and so natural- honestly I just love seeing his process and raw vocals as well it’s incredible to me
I know the community doesn't really like to talk about this, but your music has been super helpful for me after what happened with wilbur. I know I can support the art without supporting the artist, but what he did ruined his music and lovejoy for me forever. I discovered your music after that and im so glad I did, as you're now one of my favorite artists. thanks for being cool king :D
I relly appreciate as someone working on music production myself that you actually show us the parts of the song with your own interpretations, because it really validates the whole processes that leads up to the songs you release :))
that ending was beautiful. i feel like it could have been a nice transition between in between and the other side or maybe a physical exclusive at the end of the album? just wish we could have it to listen to. so excited for ur next work :)
Would absolutely LOVE to see a part two of this video, seeing your thoughts behind your music and hearing all of your ideas is so so interesting to me and I could just watch this for hours honestly. Gonna go listen to the album for the millionth time, love you Jimbo 🫶
You letting us in to your creative process and the thoughts on your own work is endearingly refreshing. It’s clear how much love you put into your art, and want to make it just right. I think it’s safe to say that you’re your own worst critic, because you absolutely could’ve put this out, as is, gotten your coin, and moved on. But your passion trumps that, and it’s kind of awesome to see. I thought the song was beautiful and vulnerable, and you can reuse anything from it if you’re inspired to do so.
I remember hearing this on the digital release and was like, OMG YES I LOVE THIS SONG ❤ This one along with Cocaine and Run are just my absolute favorites from the digital release!
Honestly, you are such a inspiration James. As an artist who is passionate about music myself and especially your music, it’s so refreshing to get see your thought process in writing your music. It’s an emotional video thank you for sharing
Genuinely this was so interesting, thank you for sharing it even though you don't like it entirely. I really love the ending of the song, it's raw and sounds it (in a good way lol). The whole album is a smash!
Hello James. I rarely comment on your videos but this time i feel like i really want to. Just wanted to say, that even though I'm not the biggest fan of your music (i listened to your album for about a week, had a lot of fun(?) with it, but it didn't really stick with me for a multitude of reasons that I won't get into right now), but i still love the fact that you do music at all. You sound fantastic on record, and from what I've heard your live performances are very impressive as well. You have a lot of potential that I KNOW you'll realize because the passion that you have for your craft is second to none. And even though your debut LP didn't stick with me, i will be listening to everything you put out in the future, because I know that one day you will release something that my (extremely picky) brain will love to bits. I guess I'm writing all this more so for myself rather than for you, because there have been times where i felt legitimately guilty for not listening to your album, i.e. supporting you in something that means the world to you. But that's a me problem anyways. So yes, i hope that you know that even though your music might not be for everyone, the passion, the love, the care that you put into it doesn't go unnoticed. P.S. if you ever release something along the lines of "Please Stay", "Thumbs", "Christine" by Lucy Dacus, or "We're In Love" by boygenius, i will despise your very existence (endearingly) as i cry myself to sleep. Just saying.
The ending part legit made me cry. The last few lines of it seriously reminded me of Car Lights... But i just know you will produce stuff as good as this! Keep it up! ♥
this is for sure one of the songs i vibe with out of the scrapped songs and ive definitely had a cry with it before but it really shows how you have grown since writing it, would be great if the end bit was released on its own as it is such an amazing piece and its a shame that not everyone is able to listen to it
that’s the thing i feel the way you don’t like it at the start and feel it’s to smooth at the end sort of blends it together to be a perfect combination of not too good or not too bad but idk it’s your decisions :))
As an artist, i love hearing other people break down exactly why things don't work. Its very hard to be honest. And that last part absolutely hits fucking hard and its unfortunate that it couldn't find a place
I dont know what everyone else thinks but this song is honestly incredible and I dont think you should give up on it, if you love the ending and other parts of it then dont give up with it, carry it on to another release until youre happy with it its brilliant and now need to find more music to fill the hole of rock song stripped back for emotional finish lol
This was genuinely such an enjoyable video to sit down and listen to while i do my uni work. Id love to see you talk amore about songs you didnt release or you making your songs
I really really hope that James can maybe try and sing the last bit again, a bit more finalized. It’s so pretty sounding and I would literally listen to it so much and cry to it
this so goes hard!! dont doubt yourself so much james, i dont think it fits with AWTY album but it would be an incredible single. the chorus is fantastic and the ending had me wanting more!
When I got the digital album and heard how it goes I fckn cried. But I understand not all is meant to be and somehow to me the song not being released takes on another meaning of the song in its own right and pairs well with the lyrics. Which is really metaphorical in a way. ‘How it goes’ got the ‘how it goes’ treatment haha (loved the vid mate keep it up)
Honestly I would've loved for this to be released as a single. Not every release has to fit into the context of something bigger like an album, some songs can just stand for themselves
I love How it goes with my entire heart. There's just something about the song that just speaks to me. I LOVE the chorus + the ending is absolutely PERFECT. Ever since I got the digital download I always absolutely loved this song and I never knew why. It isn't anything specific that I like, it's the whole song: from the lyrics to the guitar to the ending, it's all just really beautiful. This is the thing that I've realised: with a lot of the music that you love, you don't have to fully understand why you love it, you can just listen to it and fall in love, not being able to fully explain why. Super sad, that you didn't release this one, but I get that as a musician you have to make all sorts of sacrifices, that may be sad, but will put you on a higher level as a musician. Really excited for the next album and all the new unreleased songs. Proud of you, king
i think you you should do more of these vids analysing & talking about unreleased music, they are really cool to watch and its nice to have a glance at shit that could have been released
idk if it's because you mentioned right before it that the final part is emotional or simply the part itself but I got teary eyed towards the end. That last part was really beautiful. Proud to see your journey in making music and it's always great to listen to you talk about your music!
Thank you for existing james, I have watched your content for a while, and you've motivated me to keep living even though difficult times. Keep up with the beautiful music. I'll continue to cry through each song.
I am only halfway through the video but thank you so much for showing us the song as it was. Ive been getting into music for a while and am really really bad at it. Ive been trying to get into lyrics based music instead of just the pure electronic/classical stuff ive done, but I hate my voice because it never sounds how I hear it in published music. Thank you for the insight to how you work, because now I have a way to improve how I work.
i love listening to in-depth stories and comments on your music. it’s really interesting to see your emotion and passion in certain areas of specific songs and then hearing it in the song after knowing. i love it
please make more videos on the concepts behind your songs!! this was SO interesting oh my god!!! also love the raw vocals, as much as you said you don't, they are really beautiful
Why not go and listen to my album?
no
everyone go do it, it is a banger
excellent idea, Jim
No idea gonna do it rn
No
never opened youtube so quickly
on god 💀 got the notification and stopped everything

ngl, kinda ironic the song is called 'How it goes' and the song just didn't get released because it just didn't work-
No joke, the chorus is amazing. It's something I'd listen to on repeat if it were to be released as a single or maybe in a future album. The ending of the song could also be great released as a separate song, even though its just a small part of it. I love the chorus and the ending
There's something I love so much about when a songwriter is like "What did I mean by this?" about their own lyrics
omg cant wait for How It Goes (James' version) (from the vault)
pfft real
TAYLOR SWIFT REFERENCE?!?! (I love taylor)
Please, I need more videos of just you talking about your music, I want to know the things that went through your mind whilst making music, I love the depth and the healing of your own emotions with each song. I love these sorts of videos, it helps me get a better understanding.
I think it’s unlikely he will do more music vids. However on Genius they have all the interviews and meanings with the lyrics! :)
in the airport but james marriott uploaded
Have a good flight :) (or whatever you're doing there)

The “falling in love” part 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A SONG THAT IS FULLY PIANO
Yessssss please 😭
Whenever I hear unreleased songs from my fav artists I immediately love them-
10:00 that whisper - my jaw dropped there was so much fucking emotion in that one word. So beautiful James
God his voice is just so beautiful in the soft parts of his music. Like sort of haunting
I’m so upset you didn’t release some of the songs on the digital download but I respect the decision king, can’t wait to hear more :)
I would KILL to see like a re imagined version of this song because the bass and the chorus and the end are FANTASTIC
So like no joke, I would listen to this song on repeat. I def understand why it never happened for the album… but as a single OR EVEN YOU AND A PIANO WOULD BE GREAT AS A CHANGE
its giving Romanticise this + him and i love itt

I am shocked about what has happened with Alex... dam, man. ❤️🩹
Your music means so much to me! (too much according to my family)
It can never be to much❤
