You should also keep your eyes open for a nice little metal lathe you would love it.

Thanks! I did. It's a rollerblade wheel I profiled the face of to fit the diameter I needed.

The basket looks amazing - but isn't it a bit too thick? It looks to be made of 4mm sheet, it's kinda heavy. But I may be wrong here of course.

Thanks! Yeah that's a good question. I am no expert, but from what I can tell some baskets were quite thick, up to 6 or 7mm, but they tended to be narrower bars of squarish section, and then you have ribbon hilts which tended to be wider and thinner, maybe more like 1.5mm. Mine is about 3mm at the thickest point with grooves which lighten it pretty significantly. Hope that helps!

Beautiful and impressive craftsmanship… Where did you find a pattern for the baskethilt? This is something I’ve thought about trying, but I always run up against finding a good pattern.

Thanks Michael! I developed the pattern myself with lots of paper models til it was the shape I wanted.

What are the specs? Distal taper, point of balance, weight, etc.

The basket is 3/16 The blade is 1/4 if you don't mind me asking how do you figure the dimensions of the material to make the basket is it 12 inches by 12 inches. Thanks for the video I think I am going to make one.

Thanks Mike! Do it and let me know how it goes. I made a paper pattern and tweaked it multiple times till it wrapped how I wanted. Final pattern is about 13x16 with a bit to spare to trim off after forming.

Dang, the videography is amazing as well.
Who did this? What video equipment was used?

Thank you! If the shot is moving and I'm in it then that is my very kind wife filming, everything else is by me. As far as equipment, camera is Sony A7iv and for light an Aputure Amaran 200x.
