- Visiting the family of our boyfriend at Christmas is never easy. When that family is the Royal Family it's beyond strange. But we have all been there. Family is what Christmas is all about. If the Netflix documentary is showing us anything it’s showing us that Meghan and Harry are just two people like anyone else. Everyone has a limit.

I feel seen and understood on a deep level in this joke. My in laws don’t put alcohol in their Xmas trifle because of an alcoholic family member who is a) a Jehovah’s Witness who refuses to even come to xmas, and b) dead. It’s not that they don’t drink alcohol at xmas either, there’s lots of alcohol, just not in the trifle 🤦♀️

I’m literally crying. This man understands me.
I got married in 1994. Divorced in 2005/06. We had a couple of kids who are adults now. When I called by to see my daughter just after Christmas 2020 I asked if her mother had made any of her famous sherry trifles. She did. There was one spare. I took it! .... It was literally the one thing that she excelled at. lol... (we actually get on but just live different lives now so its all good, as they say)
My mother is obsessed with this whole drama. An American woman of Italian and Portuguese descent. She refuses to accept that maybe everyone has issues there. She is sure that it's all the fault of an ancient woman with a job she probably didn't want. She'd probably have been much happier if she just got to drive around in her Range Rover full of corgis.

The best holiday meal my husband and I had was the year we sneaked off and went to Jamaica. We had jerk turkey sandwiches and cocktails around the pool instead. This was the year after my Italian mom and Irish stepdad had a huge meltdown because my pregnant sister went to her Persian in laws for the holidays.

It baffles me that people don’t think his mom dying in such a graphic and sick way after being treated so poorly, his dads mistress moving in shortly after and growing up with her and her kids had ZERO influence on how he ended up reacting as an adult, who he married, and what he would tolerate especially towards his own wife and kids. Say what you will, but he’s determined not to have another tragedy on his hands and that’s admirable.

People always want to blame it on "the new wife". It´s a bit dismissive of the man´s ability to think for himself, isn´t it? If I´d grown up in that family after what happened to my mother I´d also be calling BS and legging it to Canada asap.

Exactly! He's been saying he wanted out of the family since he was 18. His relationship with Chelsea seemed to be setting up for him to move to South Africa with her. The only thing that kept him in as long as he stayed was he was enjoying his time in the army (which was put to an end right before he met Meghan) and the fact that he was single. Leaving was always Harry's plan, marrying Meghan was just the final push.

Someone in my family didn't want shivered almonds in a trifle I made. I folded to their wishes that year; the following Christmas, I told the requester "I prepared three different Christmas desserts...Choose one, eat it and keep quiet!" LOL

My Mum, born in County Cork, decided to marry my Dad and move to Manchester, England. There's bravery! Every Boxing day, would do a buffet and a trifle was always at centre stage, but I never understood why there was chocolates on the top!

This is sooooo real. I didn't even say feck off, I just didn't go back. Nobody called me. I just decided to take care of myself. FIFTEEN feckin years later I am still the main topic of family gossip. It's even grown! The whole story grew legs and dances at family gathers.

As an Irish American I’ve never felt more in touch with my Irish Ed’s than saying this dude’s name. I normally can’t do that great of an impression of an Irish accent. But after watching this and going “let’s see who this guy is I gotta check out more of his stuff, thanks TH-cam for the recommendation “ I say his name in a flawless Irish accent. I don’t think it’s possible to say his name any other way.

Interestingly, they'd just moved to Canada at the time, hence the reference, but the release of this clip is cleverly timed to coincide with the Oprah interview. It's a tricky calculation for a comedian like Jarlath - will the story still be relevant for the dvd/streaming market further down the line. I think we've seen that the story will run & run.

I wanted to skip Christmas but started with Easter. Worked my way around the calendar and finally skipped Christmas. As an American, Thanksgiving can be bigger than Christmas. We get two six weeks apart. People here are so sick of it we now have Friendsgiving and 'galentines day'. For people we would rather be with. The friends and the gals.
Lived in LA decades ago and the absolute BEST holiday was always Thanksgiving. The town goes EMPTY from T-day to Xmas and you'd just end up ordering Chinese food with your friends, having weed delivered, and watching bad tv all day.

It wasn't her fault that it was her fault, but it was her fault. Personally I've forgiven Harry for a lot just for his good sense in marrying her.

The Blues : Trifle, sponge fingers or a cut jam Swiss roll at the bottom of the dish, glass is nice.

I personally don't like jelly or jello if American, then goes on top of fruit and leave to set.
Finally, whip up cream, cover and add toppings. I use crumbled flake chocolate and cherries with chopped walnuts.
Or decorate with toasted slivered almonds

People add sherry to the sponge! I forgot that bit, it's usually a sweet sherry...in our family, we used a drained tin of mandarin oranges and some Cointreau on them. This is a traditional sweet at Christmas but can be served after a Sunday roast lunch.

I believe them because I have seen the lies your newspapers have put out about Meghan. According to the reports I have seen about Meghan, she is a caring person and cares about the people around her.
