I saw it last night for the first time. Throughly enjoyed it. I liked the fact that he had moustache as the description of Dracula in the original novel he had a tache and in fact there is a film from 1970 directed by Jess Franco starring Christopher Lee portraying Dracula with a moustache - which Lee was said to be thrilled with as it was the ‘proper’ look for him. I absolutely love the 1979 version of Nosferatu starring Klaus Kinski as Orlock and directed by one of my favourite directors Werner Herzog. Eggers version was a visual delight and the score was outstanding. Bravo ! It’s up there joint first with The Substance as my favourite horror film of 2024.

The Lighthouse is my favorite Eggers film. I loved the Herzog remake for Nosferatu in 1979. This was good but had some issues, namely Aron Taylor Johnson’s performance and its choppiness, however it’s a good film that’s getting audiences back into classic monsters and gothic horror which makes me happy.

I really enjoyed “Nosferatu”. It’s my favorite Eggers film now. His cinematographer is top tier.

I thought it was good. I figured you'd like it, Dave. It was basically just a straight-up remake of the Nosferatu/Dracula story...which is odd for Eggers. I expected something different, but it was good nonetheless. I did find it curious that it actually borrowed some story points that were invented for Coppola's Dracula film from 1992. It seemed to draw on the original 1897 novel, the 1922 Nosferatu film AND the 1992 Coppola film.
Side note: the way the Count is portrayed visually in this film is by FAR the most accurate to the original Bram Stoker novel that he has ever been portrayed. Not necessarily his vampire form, but his human form for sure.

    Loved Nosferatu!
Dave have u seen the Substance? I’d like to hear your thoughts on that film as it’s the best horror of 2024 next to Nosferatu imo. Cheers!

The look of the vampire reminded me of a zombie biker, not very iconic in the least. He also seemed to have way too much dialogue that sounded like a slowed down version of Mojo Jojo. And the Hutter scenes in the castle were way rushed & should have been extended. Strange in that even being a long movie it seemed rushed

will see it but Orlock's voice sounds like a stage performance, more bad voice acting

Considering Dave is a professional voice actor, and you're not, and he really digs the performance and understands the nuances of such a thing, I'll take his views over yours. You may not like the voice or approach, but the performance was fantastic. It's not bad voice acting

I really liked Nosferatu but the hype was a little over the top imo. I still think The Northman is Eggers best film.
