I'm an artist and I can tell you, find a local artist for a painting, even if they don't have your particular thing they will gladly make one for you. You support local artists AND have an original piece to enjoy and pass on to your family, it's a win-win situation :)
I have a watercolour of an industrious sea harbour where I used to live. A pastel picture of the Oxford skyline done by a friend’s mother and a beautiful dish made by a potter I used to work with. Then at Christmas I get a montage of cards out which I’ve collected over the years and have been painted by friends following art courses in retirement. All lovely snowy scenes of their houses! All valued so much more than commercial tatt. If you’re not so lucky with creative friends, you could always get a banana and tape it to the wall. 😉
I’ve seen you using and mentioning strip lighting in quite a few videos. I’d love to see a video focussing specifically on these; choosing, size (length), placing, installing, and evaluating whether it’s worth replacing an existing light.
Ahh interesting, didn't know this would be upvoted this much. I'm planning to remake one of my old lighting videos, maybe I'll make a multi part series with different types of ambient, accent, and task including strip lights.
@@reynardlowell Yes, please. I just learned there are flat ones and round ones, and cuttable ones, and different amounts of lights per meter of strip ...
Thank you so much for all these ideas and the pictures to illustrate. Very inspiring. Apart from the first one: I never got the thing about having so many pillows on a bed. Whether in a 5 stars hotel or at home, these just bother me so much as I have to remove them all to keep just the ones I need to rest and sleep. And what a pain to tidy the room!
I’m still with my cottage look of the 1980s. I love it and no amount of fashion is going to change it. Even the threadbare look fits, so it saves me a fortune!
I agree that design comes down to layering and texture. Could you do a video (or an article in your newsletter) about how to layer and texture a small bathroom? Thank you!
Renyard, bedrooms are inherently boxy. First the bedroom is a big box. The bed is a big box, the dressers, also big boxes, windows rectangles, etc. I find the only good and easiest way to introduce a varied form and add interest, is in the nightstands. Of course round nightstands with a drawer. They make a world of difference and a big plus is that there are not corners to scrape yourself in the middle of the night. Most people don't have the room for a rounded "slipper chair", but the only other way is to also add a chair with a very curved lines, if there is room. The bed is the focal point of the room. If the headboard it a little bland or not interesting above the bed, artwork seems to be perfect above the bed. If you are worried about it falling on you, then there are always tapestries, or any fabric or otherwise very lightweight wall hanging so that won't be a problem. Thanks.
I recently subcribed and enjoy your videos. Your presentation is very soothing and therefore encouraging. I feel like I could do these things. thankyou
Beds should contain either 1, 2 or 4 pillows only - up to a maximum of two per person - up to a maximum of two people. They must all be actual pillows. There is no place for surplus cushions on a bed.
As a person who does not like to have a pendant light hanging above themselves while sleeping, it is really tough for me to think of ideas for which ceiling light to pick for my bedroom. For exampe, using only two ambient lights without a ceiling light, makes the bedroom too dark to properly find things while getting up at a dark winter morning. So I would really appreciate new ideas!
I don't know why many of you keep asking this guy questions. He never answers and rightly so,because if he answered everyone's questions he wouldn't have time to prepare for us his lovely video's, would he ?😂😂😂
Do you ever cover outdoor dining settings? Debate for me is expensive vs cheap. Is there really a big difference between say a bunnings dining set or ikea set vs something from freedom/castlery/etc?
@@mark9294 I could have yes at my own discretion, but my windows are almost floor to ceiling, double pane height, so there was no exposed drywall to put drywall screws into. IT had to be drilled into the wooden casing that housed the windows. He had no problem with it; he just would have him come and install them while I helped. That way, if anything went wrong, I wasn't liable, and he had more control over the placement on the wood above the windows.
Do you have a recommendation on high quality curtains that drape well? Ikea uses natural materials but they are so lightweight they don't drape nicely. I'm shopping online so not sure how to tell quality / feeling / weight
Heres my number one tip. I let my wife do it. Shes amazing at making a house a home, without making it like a show home that you dont want to sit on anything
Do you have space to reorient your bed in the room? If not, one tip I would suggest which Reynard has shared on an older video is to hang wall to wall drapes behind your bed.
I have room for two nightstands on each side of my bed, but technically only one would be visible. Should I purchase one or two nightstands? PS: The only clutter I would have is my cell phone and tv remote. Thanks
"Open your windows once in a while"? LOL! Windows should be opened for at least 15 minutes every day to change the air in the room. Of course who am I to speak, I live in Greece, not in Canada. However I do that even when it's snowing outside. We shouldn't breathe stale air all day.
Hey Reynard. What is the right pillow size for a 160cm bed - queen i guess in US. I do have 2 50 by 70cm and they seems so tiny on a bed. I just don't understand why 50 by 70 is the industry standart.

Ohh interesting, is the audio too loud or is the clarity off? I usually notice when something is off but I didn't here and we didn't change any setting. I'll definitely pay more attention to it.
I don't get the extra pillows thing? Women love that.... I hate it!! the pillows end up on the floow, collect dirt and then we are expected to put it back on the bed.

I put a 10x14 rug in my bedroom - larger than recommended. It made my bedroom look so much larger and cozier.
A larger rug won't make your bedroom look larger.

When I adopted my cat, she quickly taught me not to leave anything on the nightstands, not even lamps.
I am in the middle of that battle right now. She's 2,5 months old now, and she has just discovered my bedstand.
I use museum putty on all my lamps. One off my cats loves to rub against the shades and has knocked them off.

Layering with several throws and multiple pillows takes time. Why not if there is nothing better to do.
