Personally, I always pay with cash. I am always conerned that I will encounter one of those credit card skimmers. In southern Calif(Los Angeles), there are businesses that will not accept cash.
Cash is an even bigger liability for theft and loss, and businesses have to handle way more of it than any individual ever would. That's why they overwhelmingly converge on digital payments as soon as practical.
There are also hospitals being affected. My daughter is an RN in Labor and Delivery at a large hospital in NJ. The nurses are having to closely monitor their patients and for voice tasks they have the good back to the nurses station on the floor to check vitals.

Especially the way coding is done these days, it used to be memory management done by hand etc - now it's all too abstracted from the hardware it runs on.
What I love about this is that my parents wanted me to be able to read this language when I was growing up. I didn't need a computer to translate this for me. Certainly not a damned Windows computer.

@ERMAC4482 companies use a piece of software called crowdstrike to manage their devices. A company would install this on a laptop to hand out to its users. By nature of being a software to protect the machine, it needs to communicate down to the highest level deep in the machine (kernel or ring 0 as it's called). Crowdstrike pushed an update, there was a bug, at that level it causes the windows operating system to crash. Repeat across the world.
I've just seen this play havoc in Australia although it didn't hit until 3pm Friday. The rest of the world is in for a rough day if it's not sorted ASAP.

It is well-known that software developers do not test every possible fault in their software. Given that, why was this software upgrade circulated so widely? Simple-ish fix. Reboot into safe mode so as to be able to get to an admin command line. Delete file c-00000291*sys at windows\system32\drivers\crowdstrike. Reboot. Fixed. There will also be an update applied that replaces the file you deleted.
We need to rethink how dependent we are on these things when a garbage software company gets a "bug" and it impacts lives through healthcare, business, and travel etc... worldwide. So I go out of my way to NOT update my workstations and they're all still up and running just fine like as if nothing happened. Don't be dependent on a system of centralization it WON'T end well I promise you.
