The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 116622 features a 40mm stainless steel case with a platinum bezel surrounding a platinum dial on a stainless steel Oyster bracelet with folding buckle. Functions of this Rolesium Rolex Yacht-Master include hours, minutes, seconds and date. This Rolex watch also measures 11.6mm in thickness and 47.2mm from lug-to-lug.

I saw that 16622 in Brighton UK back in 2004 or thereabouts. Proudly sitting in the window of a watch dealer. They wanted 5k for it pre-owned. I was shocked and broke, tried to get over it with a nice fish and chips. It was superb, never left my mind and I wasn't even into watches back then. I only had a kinetic Seiko at the time and loved it.
Fast forward 10 years and I'm able to get my hands on the 116622 new from a grey dealer at a nice discount. With the added bonus of being able to swap the dial for the blue one or rhodium at the RSC.
It's been five years of delight wearing this fine piece.

Get the blue dial. But silver dial is stunning too. I seen both of these at different AD . But in person I must tell you they are one hell of a piece

For a while the 16622 (previous version) could be had for like $6500. One of the best Rolex deals you can get.
This is what I call a perfect watch review and should be the gold (platinum) standard. Great camera-work. Great commentary. No ummms or ehhs or mis-steps. I don't have 20 minutes (like many other reviewers) to learn about a watch. Well done sir! Liked and subscribed.

How is the bezel feel and sound on this one compared to the submariner?
And does having a platinum bezel make it more prone to dents? Is it mire difficult and costly to repair?
Love mine and I call it my dress watch. However FYI the bezel and insert are 2 separate pieces.
Has Rolex discontinued the platinum dial version?
It is one of the most beautiful Rolex watches and is flying low with few recognising Yacht-Master.
People may not recognize the Yachtmaster like they would the Submariner or the Daytona, but in no way is this watch flying low lol. It's as flashy as it gets for Rolex, short of a full gold watch.

If you take out the bracelet, what is the difference between 5 digit YM?.
A few subtle differences, case profile, font of bezel numerals, colour of red text. Inside it has blue parachrom hairspring for anti-magnetism and is +2/-2 s/d vs. +6/-4.

I had the explorer 2 (15670) with white dial. Sir get the yacht master either silver or blue dial. I feel the yacht master is a step up over the explorer 2, but that’s just me.
I think the Yacht-master for elegance and class, but the Explorer II for the GMT function and being Rolex's true military style watch...get both!
Are the center links hollow on this one ?
I had the five digit reference. I am one of those who lost their taste for Rolex and moved on to Grand Seiko but the Yacht-Master 16622 and 116622 and the prior 16622 remain my favorite Rolex references. They are much less common than most other Rolex references. I found the watch with the bracelet too blingy and preferred it on a RubberB strap. Rolex bracelets are superb but they still do not match the comfort of rubber or leather. The bracelet on my spring driver GS diver is not the equal of the Rolex but since I do not wear it on the bracelet this is of no moment. However the bracelet on my 9F quartz GS is the most comfortable bracelet I have ever worn and I have had other dual Rolex-GS 9F owners second this sentiment.
Hi Howard. As you’re an owner of 16622, can you confirm the entire bezel is solid platinum. I keep seeing that 116622 bezel was solid platinum and 16622 was a platinum insert on top of the stainless steel ring. I feel that both models are solid platinum bezel. Thanks!
