Actually, I won't be hardwiring directly to the ins and outs of my interfaces. That's not what Platnumbaby recommended. There's more flexibility with the gear in the patchbays, the way I had it. But now the racks will make more sense and the unused cables have been rescued..
@@LaurenPassarelli I totally agree, mine are hardwired only because of the Orion’s software Control Panel which is like a soft patchbay. At the end of the day it’s always whatever works for the user & it’s a challenge/fun to figure it all out, however sometimes it feels as painful as poking yourself in the eye..lol
@@AyeYoPat Yeah, I don't know how I misunderstood him. That's how I had it before. For a second I thought it made sense cuz I had extra I/O so I could dedicate them but it limits when I could use the preamps.
@@LaurenPassarelli Ahhh the one thing I forgot to mention is that I don’t use a Mixing Board anymore, I use the Softube Console 1 System for mixing which is why my hardware is connected directly to my interface (Orion 32) & use the Orion’s Software Control Panel to do all my routing/patching etc! My Mic Pre’s inputs are accessed via a an XLR Mic Panel & hardwired to the Orion also. For me this is way better than the TT PB’s I was using before, less cables, less maintenance etc, it just took a while to get there. I do miss having a mixing board at times but the Softube hardware/software solution is way more efficient/recallable while I still have the tactile experience of twisting knobs and pushing faders! ✌️
@@davidlorentz7248 Console 1 is very cool and intriguing. I haven't met one in person yet. I laugh all the time how unnecessary the analog mixer is. Even the tape deck. Do you have mic ties? I have a 16 ch snake with mics coming from my drums & tube mic power supplies that I plug and unplug from the Audient to plug in other mics. it's like the XLRs need a patch bay! Lauren, Good Luck I'am in a similar situation only this is my first time for my setup so I've been watching you so I don't have to redo it over in a couple months so thanks for the cool content enjoy the new studio setup!
I am also a Logic user. I don’t have nearly as much outboard as you but what I have found helpful is once I establish connection from my Apollo via the I/O plug in, I save it as a preset and label it to whatever unit I’m using. Take the headache out of assigning the in and outs every single time. Plus it saves the latency ping too
To this moment I thought (and was taught), that it is difficult to stand, for woman, to even hear about me sorting my little cable mess... You brought back my faith in humanity. On the other hand I get it now, means attitude of my ex... I shut my mouth from now on and never ever dare to complain on riddles I need to solve at mine. I feel so weak and small now.. I should never complain.
My condolences, lol! I HATE re-wiring, and will often live with the inconvenience’s of whatever my layout is. Until, that is, I’ve had enough and can’t take it no more.
I dislike patch bays but you have to keep them around. Have you tried higher density pathcbay with bantam fronts an DB25 connectors on the back? Studiopatch by Switchcraft for example? I do intend to put some effects on to my interface so I can route through DAW.
I use an Orion 32+ (Gen3) which has 32 Analogue I/O on db25’s. I have all my Hardware Processors (EQ’s/Comps) in a rack hardwired directly to the Orion which is in the same rack (so the DB25’s are as short as possible) My Pre-amps are in another rack Analogue I/O into an SSL Alphalink (24 Ana I/O , MADI also in same rack for shorter db25’s) then via MADI from the Alphalink into the Orion. A 3rd rack of Gtr/Bass FX/Pre’s (incl Avid’s Eleven Rack) Ana I/O into a Behringer ADA8200 (8ch) that is also wired into the Orion via Adat. IMHO the Orion 32+ is by far the most cost effective way of doing this and there isn’t anything on the market that can come close I/O wise in that price range or probably for double the cost.(NO, I don’t work for them LOL!) I got mine brand new direct from Antelope Audio on Reverb for $2500 when they had a sale after they released the Gen 4. (FYI , I had the Gen 2 model prior to this) The Orion is patched into an M1 MacMini via Thunderbolt (I finally upgraded my Trashcan to a MM) All my gear is patched via Antelopes Software Control Panel which takes a minute to get your head around but now I can drag and drop the Ana Outs of say my API2500 Comp into the inputs of say my TK-Lizer Para EQ & whatever chain I want very quickly and no more breaking my back patching and the constant frustration of Patchbay maintenance and patch cables. I started this insane journey in the 70’s back in Liverpool and sometimes yearn for those days with my Guitar,an SM58 & a Portastudio..LOL!! As they say “Art is a journey not a destination”
I know! And fixing one thing often dislodges another. Hahahaha. It was a beautiful setup at Power Station NE. The wall contained the patchbays and you could walk behind and access at eye level. Didn't take up extra room space. Lovely!

Let the nightmare begins. But you will be better for it. Congrats for taking the first step.
You told her direct I/O to her interface ???? Noooooooooo!!!!!!! lol.

Absolutely. Part of the adventure IS the hunting and gathering and figuring out. It's great for our brains.

Good Luck! One of my least favorite things to do 😀
I, oddly, kinda like getting tangled up in my own confusing wires
