I love Kaner in the winged wheel, said time 100 times. That OT winner against the Sens felt very good. Haven’t felt like that about this team all season. The boys seem to be very receptive to Todd’s messaging. Thank you Todd, go Wings.
Ive only been a die hard Wings fan for the last 2 years. Havent missed a game, stay up on all the media, still learning the game. But I love Kaner as if he has always been a Wing. Gonna be a very sad day when he decides to swap sweaters.
@@TitoDaG it makes it even better that we used to fear him lol. We was so good for Chicago and picked us apart over the years, but he chose to play here, and that’s pretty special. I think he knows he can teach the young fellas a lot, and you can tell he’s made an impact on Raymond already.
Kasper on the wing with Larkin and Raymond I thought they should have tried a long time ago. Kasper's forechecking ability and board battling is probably his greatest strength, I think he would really complement Larkin/Raymond. With his skillset he might be better suited as a winger in the NHL, at least for now. Obviously the Wings need a long term solution at center other than Larkin, and Kasper could still be that guy. With Copp working between Debrincat and Kane I don't see them making that switch, although I would love to see how he does in that role.
Kasper will still have to work on his shooting for the next few years. A long range slapper was all he was known for. Great intelligent type, not a burner, dig the puck out of the boards and pass the puck to the right spots.
Good episode. I do think Ed and AlJo are partly extending their own ice time because they're stuck in the D-zone, but it's only been two games that the two have played together in the NHL and I already have more faith in them than I do in Ed and Petry. It's nice to be able to watch entertaining hockey again.
I mean Edvinsson-Aljo was GR's first pair for the last 2 seasons.. They already have chemistry. Hopefully he can show he can handle the minutes and harder opponents. He definitely looks solid with Edvinsson.
@ Yes, of course that's true, but as you say - GR. Don't think the AHL is top 5 worldwide. So the chemistry between the two is of course important and a good prerequisite, but you can tell that the pair is a bit lost. Simon needs to learn when to take risks & when not to & that in the NHL players are good with their stick & take the puck away from you faster than you can look & AlJo needs to work on his shot & his body They're both still rookies though, even if Simon isn't officially one. So none of this is a bad thing & in 2 years this top 4 will just be sick. Plus ASP is coming too but definitely needs to bulk up or I don't see a great future for him other than on the PP.
I'm not sure what it showed on TV, but I was at this game right behind Lyon. It irritates me about Lyon getting injured, guy was in a pretty good scrum in the crease, and was shoved into the net not once, but twice by charging Senators, all in the 1st.
Hockeytown is rocking. Lions #1 seed, playoffs are in full swing. Pistons are above .500. Not sure how long it will last, but if Detroit sports continue to peak over the next few years… man. Everything we’ve ever wanted. Detroit is up, and we will stay up.
One thing about the whole conversation about giving up Kasper or Danielson is, Lombardi cannot be forgotten in this situation. He makes it easier to trade one of these two. Not a great time for his injury but talk about AHL all stars, Lombardi would’ve been an all star this year if not for the injury. They also have sneaky Emmitt Finnie. So they have other C prospects, who are trending very well. It makes trading one of those two much easier.
For me Danielson, ASP and the two goalies are the near-untouchable prospects right now. MBN and Kasper would be available for the right return. 1st round pick must be at least top-5 protected. I wouldn't be shocked if some of the delay is to get TM a chance to weight in, and maybe showcase some players.
Add RW Jesse Kiiskinen to the untouchable trade list. Dude lit it up in the U20 tourney for Team Finland. Good size winger 6'1" 190 pounds. Detroit also got a 2nd round pick in that trade for Andrew Gibson who took a bad penalty in that same tourney.
@ericscottstevens I personally wouldn't put him in the untouchable category. To me he's in the extremely valuable category, around Kasper or MBN. Buchelnikov who is just under a ppg in the KHL would also be pretty valuable, but likely less tradable given the question marks of his situation.
I think we are pretty much good on money in a cozens trade. Dont we have to only fit the prorated cap hit? Puckpedia says we have 6.6m cap space right now.
Put together a package for Kozens then use Kozens in a package to Vancouver? There will be an issue with open roster spots short term but long term it makes Detroit a serious contender.
The comment about not noticing Johansson, is exactly the comment everyone has always made about him. That’s a good thing too!! He’s gonna need a little more muscle to withstand an NHL season but that is exactly the kind of partners Seider and Edvinsson will need over the next decade. Guys who just do the basics very well. With Mo, you probably want someone with a little offense too, but as Edvinsson evolves, he’s going to be a 50+ point Dman every year. He has more of a natural offensive game than Mo. So his long term partner doesn’t have to have much more than just being someone like Johansson has always been at every level. There’s no reason he can’t become a Matt Roy. He’s gonna have to get stronger though, but the last two games give you more hope he can fill one of these spots at some point. More than likely Wallinder and ASP take those two spots, but we’ll see. Still think they have more interest in Bo Byrum than they do Cozens, and if the Rangers move K’Andre Miller, they’ll have interest there too. He might be the perfect long term partner for Mo. He’ll also end up taking some of that PP time. Adding another 6’5” guy in there, with Mo, Edvinsson and Wallinder, would be great. Another kid nobody should forget about in the future, is Anton Johansson too. Another 6’4” kid and he has a mean streak. Detroit has to be interested in Byrum, Miller and possibly a target to look at going after is, Jamie Drysdale. He just doesn’t fit in Philly. They need that 3rd dman who they get some offense out of, who’s not gonna kill them defensively Don’t be surprised if they trade Chiarot this season too.
I think Yzerman would be more interested in trading for either Konsta Helenius or Noah Ostlund instead. Kevyn Adams gave away Matthew Savoie for almost nothing. Konsta Helenius or Noah Ostlund would be cheaper in my mind.
I get this probably would have been a possibility during their struggle in December but what would everyone think if they had brought up Jack Campbell to give him a shot in net? Worst that could have happened is they lose again but at the time that was expected. Maybe he goes back to his Toronto form? I guess we’ll never know. I like Jack and the dude has been through a lot, I would like to see him get a shot. At this point I’d rather see him than Husso.
Regarding Cozens rumors! What no one has mentioned (on a larger scale) is that as a fan you can't trust S."f".Y and his amateur scouting department. S."f".Y's track record is so poor when it comes to trades and off season signings that the best thing as a Fan is to hope that no trade happens. Here S."f".Y's nepotism shines at its best which is one of the bigger obstacles for the RW org. Pettersson - no thanks we don't need him or his contract and a GM's obligation is only to call and settle the situation (tha drama) for himself. There is nothing more than that for the RW org. to obtain here, 0 of value to the organization. Byrum - Is a (L) defender that RW would definitely need. However, most of the evidence suggests that RW already has that type of defender in its pipe. The advantage I see is that in the RW pipe there are future players who have size and RW has time to adapt that player's development. So the question becomes more what fits Johansson's/Wallinder/Buium or Tuomisto in the long term. I know that Tuomisto is not L, but can certainly play there. As a Swede am hype over what Buium can add as I believe his DNA is needed in RW. As a Fan I hope no trade happens. If it has to happen I would go for Cozens, the question becomes as before. How much does S.Y want him and which of his draft picks is he willing to pass on? BTW - the worst that could happen this year is that RW ends up in place 15 in the upcoming draft. S."f".Y as a GM has a lot of flaws, the player S.Y is god not the GM, naa no way...
Detroit needs to stay away from Cozens. He is way overhyped and overpaid. He is NOT top 6. He only had One good season when he was a sophmore and nobody paid any attention to him. When people started defending against him the following year his production dropped 20 points. Now this year he is on track to less then 40 points. Hardly top 6 production level and for 7 mil per year on a long term deal. We all complain about Copp and Compher contracts. Just wait till you get Cozens at 40 points for 7 mil... Talk about overpaid!!!!
How about a 3 way trade with Buffalo and Vancouver. Cozens, Copp, Chiarot, top 10 protected 1st (or conditional 1st if detroit makes playoffs) goes to Vancouver, Petterson goes to Detroit, Kasper and 3rd goes to Buffalo.
I dont want cousins, I think we have up the middle covered, the blue line is awful. I'd trade chiraot if a petterson trade is looming, and I'd offer to bergy I'd offer up compher copp those players and picks are all on the block. Veleno on the block
Great keep prospects who likely won't be as good as cousins and keep being a wild card fringe team, I don't understand how the timeline for a gm who has been here so long is let's hope Kasper becomes something we all think is unlikely
Sorry for the extended preamble this episode! Go to 7:50 if you want to jump into the game recap.
Y’all really need chapters
You guys deserve a long red wings heater after your many years of perseverance

Finally Johansson getting some playing time.
I know right
AJ - what we saw vs Ottawa - is the tip of the iceberg. I think you are underestimating. Terrific IQ and add confidence and more meat - dude skates
Kasper on the wing with Larkin and Raymond I thought they should have tried a long time ago. Johansen is just at the point where you’ll see a flash of the potential, chased with a rookie breakdown. It’s fun to see except when it costs goals.
Oh Ryan's back..!! Noone is more thankful than Evan or Brad..😂Jk jk u guys were great.!! Loved hearing Bob K on the broadcast again..!!

“And this place is delirious!!”
Did anyone else almost tear up when Kane scored and micky almost choked up when hearing the LCA crowd go nuts singing????😢
Misa was almost 3 points a game during the duration of the WJCs. How Canada kept him off the roster is beyond me.

I want to be a playoff contender, and when the players care, I absolutely believe we are one. I'm excited.

Bring back the Nuns - season tickets please. 🙏🏻
Sprong = The new Damien Brunner???
I can't wait for the day I never hear "Husso has been recalled from the AHL GRG under emergency conditions." Ever again

Still not believing in a playoff run but it’s great to see the boys buying in for mclellan

Is cozens really worth that many players in a trade? Nothing necessarily says he will run as hot as he did in one season 🤷♂️
Brady is sloth from goonies more than he is shrek.....malkin is shrek
The wings have too many small forwards. Do not trade Rasmussen.
Size aside the Red Wings are still one of the slower teams of NHL teams,
They need speed.
