This spinoff was just as good as the golden girls...in fact this is by far my most favourite episode og both series!!! This episode was comedey gold!!!
Some may disagree with me, but I think Rose, Blanche, and Sophia carried this spin-off well even though Dorothy (Bea) was not in the cast. I wish networks had given this show more of a chance to blossom ♥️
Totally agree. As much as I liked Dorothy on GG, I don't miss her at all on GP. Rue, Betty, and Estelle did a great job, and there also was a good chemistry with Cheech Marin and Don Cheadle. It sure deserved a second chance and not being constantly compared to GG.. 😊💜🌿
I agree, I never even heard about this show until a couple months ago so I am now binge watching, and I must say I really don't miss Dorothy as much as I did like her.
OMG I love this show! It reminded me since The Golden Girls season is over. Not just the same without Dorothy but this 90s show was the best. Blanche, Rose and Sophia are great!
One joy of sitcoms, has always been the chance, for a cameo apperarance, by one of the great names of entertainment. If someone seems unknown to you, please try to see more of their works, in order to understand why applauding crowds stand up for them. They are in some way, our pioneers, of stage, radio, film, television and now video. They have charmed so many generations. It's always a treat, to visit an extremely popular show and then be additionally graced, by a surprise super golden guest star. It is also an opportunity, for the Golden Girls and Co., to once again work, with these cherished stars. Hopefully, they all got along with each other.
I used to be able to find the patty cake scene, but I can’t seem to find it anymore on TH-cam. Right after they throw the body in the shoot, they turn around and start playing patty cake, it’s hilarious.
I don't know what those miserable people at the bottom of the comments are talking about, this episode is hilarious. Yes this concept of carrying around a dead body had been done before in previous show, but this whole cast was superb and the execution was excellent. 😂😂😂 I think they some scenes here though.
Rat poison in the food is reminiscent of the movie 9 to 5 when Lily Tomlin thought she did the same thing to Dabney Colemans coffee and the dead food critic in the restaurant shtick was used on the tv show Alice.
This episode seems to be heavily inspired by the Fawlty Towers episode 'The Kipper and the Corpse'; also, Gerald Davenport is portrayed by Eric Christmas, very fine Anglo-Canadian actor.
Golden palace is an example. That when you have the perfect recipe, you don't try to mess with it! If, you're trying to make grandmas special apple pie, and you're missing one ingredient? Do you really think the pie is going to taste the same? Without one (Bea) it's not going to be as good! 😁
This show did not work. The comedy was too forced. Yes there were some laughs here and there, but the magic that made the Golden Girls one of the best sitcoms ever, didn’t really translate well here. The characters of Rose, Blance and Sophia already did everything funny they could do in the Golden Girls, that by the time this show started, the writers lost all touch of what made these characters great and they ended up turning into cartoon caricatures of themselves. The jokes were mostly badly written and desperate. I mean, Blanche says “Men just love my walk-in, and my top-in” ???? That doesn’t even make sense and is NOT funny. It’s just stupid. None of the other characters on this show worked either. Instead of character driven plots that the original show was famous for, this show relied on farce and sight gags and stupid plots, just like this episode. When a show that was about the characters wonderful personalities and chemistry relies on storylines about running a hotel instead, with ZERO stories just about the characters, you know thats when the show jumps the shark. Sure this isn’t the Golden Girls, its Golden Palace, but I always considered it the unofficial 8th season of the Golden Girls, and the season that jumps the shark and became awful. Sure, this show could have worked even without Bea Arthur (even though she’s painfully missing, which is another negative for this show), but the writing was SOOO bad. Even Sophia wasn’t funny at this point. Her wisecracks weren’t funny here. Golden Palace did not have good ratings, they were nowhere near what the Golden Girls achieved and its obviously why. This show was about to get a 2nd season but at the last minute, the network cancelled it due to the high salary of the 3 leading ladies opposed to the lower ratings and negative reviews.
i think some people feel like they should say this was good even though it clearly is not....Besides the loss of Bea the writing was indeed weak and the supporting cast added nothing....They should have quit when Bea did....yes she was the smart one and dont get me wrong i love Betty Rue and Estelle
@@joejoe9435 of they should have just kept the setting in their house with just the three of them, or at least added a new roommate with a completely different personality than Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia. Who knows, if they cast the right lady to add, it could have breathed new life into the show and kept it on a few more years. It worked with Cheers when they added Rebecca Howe to the set of characters after Shelly Long left the show. Putting the remaining girls in the hotel setting with the horrible two male characters they created for the show was a flop that didn’t work. The comedy wasn’t nearly as good and the comedy was also forced.
@@trevorbayers2175 good point...they did do it successfully with Cheers.....and yes the males on GP were an embarrassment...and yes the girls were out of place in the hotel...they wasted alot of talent with this spinoff
This show was so fake, lol!! That kitchen is WAY too small for a hotel. Only one chef, and one stove?! How the hell can they prepare food for all the guests should they be at full capacity?! Also, how can they keep that place clean with no housekeepers or cleaning staff?! So dumb, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love Golden Girls and Golden Palace, but you can really see the desperate writers running out of material and grasping at straws. This is the weakest episode
This episode was not funny. You can tell the writers were desperate because they know that this show has not been well received by critics or the viewing audience. Glad it was put out of it's misery early.
It was renewed and only cancelled last minute along with a bunch of other shows, only because they wanted to get younger actors for the Saturday night watch block. The ratings were actually high, not as high as Goldsn Girls obviously, but they had a growing audience and this was actually one of the most liked episodes by the fans. So you're wrong hunty. 💅🏾

They did fine without Dorothy. She knew that when she took one last look at them as she was leaving.
I absolutely agree!

This show was hysterical. I don't miss Dorothy.
I do
Best episode ever!! This spinoff is fabulous! It should have lasted!
Cheech did so good in this 🤣
this episode was very brightly written / Marco pennette is a genious !
Yes, they stole it from Fawlty Towers. Nothing original in this episode.

@ericasmith2039 alot of storylines are recycled. Ultimately it's thr execution of the actors and production, this one is a lot better.💅🏾

It's nice seeing the characters, but the spin off wasn't a good idea. The characters had to regress in order to make more storylines.
