Ed Ferrara, Vince Russo, and Paul Heyman (ECW) played a crucial role in bringing about the 3rd golden age of wrestling. There is just no way to dispute that.

Vince…it’s not necessarily “lying”. From hearing others talk, it’s your perspective. You take credit for these things (many, many things) that were obviously group efforts. You campaign for recognition in places where you should be trying to share it with Ed, Vince, Cornette, Bruce, Eric and the talent. That shit rubs people the wrong way and if they have an opening to hit back, they will. You don’t have to be “lying” in order to face backlash about stuff that seems like obvious bullshit to certain people.

    • @stevemichael652
      @stevemichael652 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Why does the head writer have to share credit with someone who wasn’t even on the creative team (cornette)? Not even that, cornette absolutely hated and disproved EVERYTHING that was drawing ratings while Russo was writing the shows. Cornette himself would smack you for even suggesting he deserves any credit when it’s attached to Russo. Russo always gives credit to the talent , he goes on to give Bruce credit in this video as he always did. Vince russo only takes credit for his direct work in the business at the time. He has never taken credit for something that he didn’t directly have a hand in. If you think he’s always taking credit when it isn’t warranted, give me one example.

How does he? he claimed he came up with the montreal screwjob even though shawn michaels, bret hart have both said it was triple h who said that vince should do business for bret if he doesnt wanna drop the title, he claimed he came up with the rock referring to himself in the 3rd person but that was JR as copied from dionne sanders, he claimed he came up with the term 'Attitude' even though that was shawn michaels, claimed he came up with pushing austin 3;16 even though it was obvious to push that after the arena the night after king of the ring was a sea of 3;16 signs. Vince Russo had some great ideas including writing goldusts promos, val venis, godfather, the stooges and worked well with vince mcmahon as a filter, my problem is whereas the people he attacks accept theyve had bad ideas Russo claims hes never had a bad idea even though he came up with Brawl for all, beaver cleavage, meat, icp with the oddities and other howard stern nonsense. Vince Russo believes his shit dont stink but is willing to denegrade everyone elses ideas. He complains about the wrestling business in both of his books yet wants to be in it, he claims he doesnt want credit for his work yet thats all he talks about wanting in 'Forgiven', he may have apologised to JR for the awful things hes said and done to him but does it make it ok. Russo had a good 5/6 year run in WWE, an awful 2 year run in WCW and an awful 10 plus year run in TNA. Russo couldnt handle the life working under Vince Mcmahon which is understandable its hard being WWE 24/7 365 days a year but he should admit he couldnt handle the pressure when he returned in 2002 he was such an egotist he didnt know the previous wrestlemanias main event because he believed he didnt need to know the product that WWE was putting out and that was the nail in his coffin

Vince, Conrad has caught Prichard's memory lapses on more than a few occasions. There was a big one over Hogan's 93 title run, where Prichard said he was given the title for the subsequent world tour, but Conrad proved that Hogan dropped the belt before it even happened.
I know I caught a couple discrepencies myself. For example, you said that GTV was going to be Tom Green, but Prichard had a different explanation. He also denied that The Blonde Bitch Project was about Sable. I apologize, as I don't recall Prichard's exact explanations, but I recall yours from Wrestlecrap, and your version made perfect sense.

13:17 I'm a Vince Russo fan, but Al Snow's head gimmick was created in ECW. Everything AL Snow did before that with WWE were flops. What made him initially was what he did in ECW with the head. Russo saw him doing that in ECW and loved it, and had him do the same exact character in WWE. If it wasn't for ECW, Russo would have never come up with the head gimmick for Al Snow on his own. So that's an example of a stolen or copied idea from ECW. Bubba Ray Dudley's stuttering gimmick first started in ECW. He comes into WWE, and he's stuttering. Another stolen/copied idea from ECW. How about the blue meanie? They named him bluedust, but his character and attire was very similar to his ECW character.

It was unlike this. He didn't smear Russo with sleazy attacks like "you were a drug addicted alcoholic whose memory can't be trusted", and that's essentially what Russo is suggesting here.
No, Russo reveals his true nature here, and in his book. A loudmouthed egomaniac, thin-skinned to the point of being bizarre, and unable to accept that others disagree with him, or even dislike him, without his having to react.
This weird video and his even weirder book tell volumes. They say all his critics have been right. He's a sleazy, self-absorbed, off-putting individual, who, through luck, backstabbing and manipulation, had a handful of years in which he was able to earn money from the wrestling industry.
He's still trying to mooch off that fame, even though he says he doesn't even like to talk about wrestling. Russo has always been an outsider to wrestling and wether anybody believes it or not, he gets a lot of credit for the best stuff of the attitude era. Nobody can take that perception away from him. If you have ever had a job, especially a place with a lot of politics you would know how people dump blame on ex employees.
Everyone embellishes their versions of the truth but I always felt that Vince was sincere about giving credit and taking credit, even in this video. Russo has not worked at the WWE for over a decade, if he is so inconsequential why don't the other writers get the ratings? Or at least write a story remotely interesting. Every week is an opportunity to prove how bad he was. But the fact that we are still talking about it means we all still believe that was the best time. Write something better, people will stop talking about the attitude era.

The post-pro wrestling heat between Vince Russo and Jim Cornette has lasted longer than the average pro wrestler's career. When you consider how long ago that Vince Russo's alleged mishaps occurred, it's ridiculous that so many people are still rehashing all this nonsense. Vince Russo got along with some of the people he worked with while others disliked him. The first Wrestlemania, the death of Owen Hart, and the Montreal Screwjob are all 'worth talking about' decades after they happened. The friction between Vince Russo and his co-workers should have been 'let go' within 10 years of him retiring from pro wrestling. The TH-cam back-and-forth bickering between Russo and Cornette in particular is as toxic as it is stupid. Bro!

However all of his yelling and ranting makes him hard to listen to.
Also I think his argument about his book being 15 17 years old is not valid.
When he wrote it it became a source so it's only natural that if Bruce and Conrad are going to talk about it they're going to quote from a book. The Source doesn't expire after 15 17 years.

A video full of shenanigans. Russo just said on Konan's show that he doesn't understand why the WWE won't have him on their show to tell his side. This is why.... "Yeah I left him high and dry." SpikeTV cancelled wrestling because of this man, when the highest rated shows in Spike history are WWE. "They never recovered" - 2016 was the most profitable year ever. I am still laughing at this "how much Vince McMahon depended on me" - WrestleMania drew 100,000 people last year. TNA has been bought and sold, twice. Where's that WCW company he went to, that lost 80mil... Oh he got fired from there too. And now a protective order against a middle-aged manager. Some former heavyweight champion this guy was... Maybe he fired his own balls.

Let me preface this by saying I am not a lifelong wrestling fan, I'll admit I have had to lookup the definition of certain terms 😊. I'm 35 and haven't followed wrestling much since my early twenties but a boy and definitely into my teenage years I was about as serious a wrestling geek as they come. I was lucky enough to be around at the dawning of the Attitude Era, the introduction of WCW, all through the Monday Night Wars, and the most important, the beginnings of wrestling forums, newsletters and dirt rags popping up on the internet. Which I believe played a fundamental role in WHY Pro Wrestling had to change in the dramatic fashion that it did. One that would allow a Vince Russo & Eric Bischoff to rise. It made a "smarter" fan out of everyone. Everyone was in on the work so if it was going to last it had to give these "smarter" kids like myself something "real", something "authentic".
With that said, I've since had two little boys of my own. Both are still too young for wrestling, at 6 & 7. I'm reluctant to let them watch for two reasons, 1. If I tell them out front that it's a work, that it's .. "fake" then I think it takes away from the fun of it at a young age. The fun of cheering on your favorite. It'd be like telling them Santa Claus or Jesus Christ isn't real but I'm not gonna do that yet cause the belief in those two fellas helps keep those two little shits behavior in check! No Christmas presents, AND you're gonna burn in hell! 2. I'm not ready for them to take it to the level my friends and I did by powerbombing each other on the living room floor and to move on to jumping off the roof through a table on to each other. I've been giving them incremental taste's by showing them clips on TH-cam from my Era of fandom. I want to share this with them. Being able to possibly connect with my son's through something we both wind up loving is exciting. Sharing with them these moments that blew me away, that enthralled me, that really took over a large chunk of my life so far as I briefly spent time in an Indy league in Pensacola, FL.
As I've been dripping clip's on em it's turned me back into nostalgic junkie. Over the last few months of spent a lot of time rewatching shows, matches, even went so far as to subscribing to the WWE Network so I could watch. The last month I came across the podcast in reference here, 'Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard' and from the first episode I listened to (of course it was the Montreal Screwjob episode) I was HOOKED and I've been binge listening.
I heard this episode, the one on Russo, the other day and I took it at face value. As I said I've been outta the game for awhile and frankly I wasn't all that curious of the creative aspect of wrestling in my teens. So far as knowing who the writers were and who did what. So I wasn't on either side of the Russo road, neither hate nor love. Upon listening to the initial podcast and hearing from Bruce & Conrad themselves about how large a role Russo played in the Attitude Era I realized I really enjoyed the guys work when I was young. I knew who he was, I'd put things together over time and I remembered all the times he showed up on Nitro. Anyhow, I left the episode thinking Russo is a pretty creative bastard, and skilled to be able to have such a short run in the business but have such an incredible impact. Bruce mocked him for that but I see it as a plus. I also came away thinking, Russo is a little bitter about how this all turned out. He wanted to come in, shake things up, usher in a new way of business but the old guard weren't giving up that crown. I feel confident he made few friends. I'm sure he can be a egomaniac at times. But with that Bruce and Conrad I felt took several liberties with the source material and twisted some things to fit a narrative. Now I'll admit I've never read the book Forgiven, I'm commenting on the quotes Conrad himself read. Mainly on his, Russo, need for credit. I thought it was obvious what Russo was saying about Vince not giving Russo his due.
Anyhow, I've just went really overboard. I'm glad I came across this video and I look forward to delving more into the topic, listening to more interviews and such on my two hour drive to the methadone clinic every morning.
    Good show!
