You're right, this show does a great job of endearing you to the town as much as the football club. When I went there recently, I was equally excited to meet people in the town and visit all the places from the documentary (including this memorial) as I was to see a match at the Racecourse. It was my favorite trip of my adult life and I can't wait to return. Super excited for your reaction to the next one!
I'm from Wrexham and this is my favourite episode so far. I know it's been said many times, but what Rob and Ryan have done for the whole community, not just the Football Club, cannot be underestimated. The town will forever be thankful. If they walked away tomorrow, nobody in Wrexham will say a bad word against them.
This is a great episode. The only issue I’d take is Mark Griffiths saying that this was the worst mining disaster in British history - unfortunately it wasn’t, it was only about the 6th worst. 439 died at Senghennydd near Caerphilly in South Wales in 1913, 361 at Barnsley in Yorkshire in 1866, 344 at Westhoughton in Lancashire in 1910, 290 at Cilfynydd (S Wales) in 1894, 268 at Aberdaron (S Wales) in 1878. The price of coal was terribly high. 😢 At Gresford they only got 11 of the bodies out, the rest are still there (the monument is at the old shaft). The fires were so bad they decided to seal the shaft fairly early on, but there was another explosion 3 days later which blew the cap off the shaft, killing one person on the surface. If you check the list of the victims, you’ll see that at least 2 of them were only 15 years old (back then you only had to stay in school until you were 14 - my dad was 15 in 1934 and already working on the farm). This disaster was one of the things that lead to the nationalisation of the coal industry in 1947 (WW2 delayed things a bit), but it’s notable that before they handed the mine over to the National Coal Board, the old owners insisted on destroying all the safety records - you wouldn’t expect them to do that if they had nothing to hide, would you?! With regard to “Yma O Hyd”, here’s Bronwen singing the full song (with lyrics): th-cam.com/video/S_pjG1Tzx74/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3XLavdubx82Eh-tQ and here’s Dafydd Iwan, the original composer, belting it out before the Wales vs Austria World Cup qualifier last year: th-cam.com/video/emPhXdwhQoE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=u1hDtk25_t2e1PSC The lyrics have been slightly changed - the original, sung by Bronwen, refers to “er gwaetha hen Fagi a’u chriw” (“despite old Maggie (Thatcher) and her crew”), while it’s now “er gwaerha’r hen elyn a’i criw” (“despite the old enemy and his crew”).
@andrewspilsted6304 we are getting excited about the end of the season. I'm happy for a long-time supporter like you that this amazing story grew in your town.
@@TouchyReactions yes it's great. What ryan and Rob have done is virtually a miracle. Great to see people from overseas every week in our club shop and the matches. It means so much for the people of wrexham, and even more to people like me who went through some very bad times in regards to the club. What you see on the documentary is all true, great now we have the best 2 ambassadors at our club in the word. People don't realise what this club means to the people of wrexham, it's brought my family closer together for example the sheff u game and coventry and more importantly what your gonna see in next week or two 👌
Despite everything and every one We're still here Yma O Hyd makes me tearful but in a good way :) I like your channel and the lady definitely has a football brain, may I make a recommendation for a video to watch?

Thank you. Next episode will drop tomorrow
Lucky you. Sounds like a great trip.
This was a great episode. My gran lost her dad and two brothers in the gresford disaster. Needless to say it shaped her son, my dad and me.

Who would have imagined a couple of years ago what was coming?

Wow, Thanks Arwelp for sharing all of this great history with us. So many deaths, so much suffering. The Welch have a proud and storied history.

Great episode.
I wish you stopped pausing the video at the end with the song, that was such an emotional moment. Common now :)
Sorry, we make mistakes sometimes.
