Great little video, your enthusiasm is infectious. Just getting used to my OM1 and your observations seem pretty spot on. Have to say my only handling gripe is the operation of those dials! Much prefer my Mk2 for that. Why didn't they use the same ruberised ones from the 1X as you described that would have been much better. Buttons on OM1 needs work. Won't work well with gloves. Can't get full motion on rear wheel, moving right your thumb jams against camera edge.. info button to low with eye in viewfinder...Hope the battery holder makes it better..
My battery grip showed up today. I will mention this in the next video I do. I agree these are small buttons but it is also a small camera. You have to upsize to an Em1x to get the real-estate for those larger buttons.
You know. 30 years ago it happened to me the same thing: I went to buy a camera for astrophotography as my Canon AE1 program has no mechanical link for the shutter and the guy at the store gave me a used OM1n as it was right for what I was doing. It also came with the Battery grip. I still have that camera despite the fact that the light meter seems to not be working anymore.
I ordered on March 4, and will have it Tuesday or Wednesday next week 😅 Pana 25mm f1.7 and olympus 100-400mm lenses is my build 💪 5 year warranty and xtra battery comes with mine. I ordered wandrd neck strap instead of the standard 😊 easier to put on and off, and I have the same wrist strap for it 😊 could you try a high iso single shot light edited in lightroom, with the 25mm f1.8 lens? Iso 6400 or something there 😊
That was quick! I really like the AEL/AFL switch on the EM1 III, which I have set to toggle AF/MF with the button being BBF. I'll be interested to feel the switch on the OM1 And I really wish I'd never gotten rid of my first OM1.
Well, we definitely have a couple of things in common. I, too, am coming from the EM1-X, which I agree has superb ergonomics. It’ll be interesting to see how the OM-1 compares when I finally receive it. Looks like it was a mixed bag for you, though of course there are always trade offs. And I am also an original OM-1 user who’s about to come full-circle, though my use dates from the camera’s actual release (or when my parents finally gave in and bought it for me), which does make me a *tad* older than you.
Yes a little bit older :) I know I just love my Em1x and it seams like everyone who has one does too. I hope they make an OM1x. I will be a customer for sure if they do.
Its smaller but sits up higher compared to the Em1.3. I myself prefer the ON OFF switch on the Em1x though. I really wanted to do it through my local guy too but he told me to order directly from Olympus. I guess it had been so long since he did a high dollar order from them it was going to cost him more than actually selling me one. Its to bad only the big camera stores get good discounts and can take a larger cut.

I'd be open to doing an ASTRO shoot out comparing the OM-1 vs. the GH6 (I went with GH6 as I also do video and still waiting for mine which SHOULD be here next week if tracking it to be believed). Pick a Northern Hemisphere Target and Let me know and I'll image it and we can compare data (I'm getting the Panny 100-400mm lens but I also have the RedCat51, WO ZS 80, and EdgeHD8" to choose from or a wider MFT lens - my recent video on my channel tells you what I'm currently getting).
The GH6 should be an interesting one. Especially since it has a passive cooling fan. To bad there is no way to control its speed, that I know of. Sound is not an issue in astrophotography.
@@TheNarrowbandChannel You can control the speed of the GH6 fan, although its very crud (Auto1, Auto2, Low, High, Off). There are however temperature set-points that control AUTO but I don't know what they are.
Well that was different - an actual useful unboxing video! Still waiting for mine to arrive, and waiting to order the grip. The big question for me will be how close does the OM1+HLD10 handle like the M1X when you put the big lenses on it - 300, 100-400, 150-400 - that may determine the future of the M1X. If the ergonomics match better than the inferior HLD-9 combo, I do not foresee OMDS ever making a new version of the X unless there is enough justification for dual processors. Though it would have been nice if they added two custom buttons to the HLD-10. I also go all the way back to the OM1, OM2 and even the PenFT.
Thank you for the kind words. I know I find unboxing videos are not to helpful so I tried to put things in here that would make it more rewarding for the viewer. I myself sure hope they make an OM1x. I think this sensor is barely being tapped by the tru pic X processor. 2 of them would really open up a lot of stuff. I still highly recommend the Em1x. Especially for those who want to do wildlife on a budget.
@@TheNarrowbandChannel I'd like to see the dual proc system make use of background processing - how about no delay at all in HiRes or focus stacking, push the processing off to the 2nd CPU and keep shooting. I'd like to see a newer X as well but guessing it will be a marketing decision. Just what I need, another body to go with a 1.3, 1X, 5.3, OM1, and full spec 1.2 :)
I am a little divided. I think the back of the OM1 looks better but the front of the EM1.3 I prefer too. They both have great design keys and tangents.

I got my grip yesterday. I’m an X fan as well. Once I got the grip on my OM-1 I was back to normal. Since my E-5 I need the grip for my ape hands.

I would say the size of the rubber wheels from the 1x would have been a major problem. They are about twice the size.

Probably not. Though the dials on the Em1x are nicer. I hope they do make an OM1x. Dual processors would be awesome and would allow for 120p 4k video.

Only for very wide angle astro landscapes but I do not really do any of those anyway.

Light Meter failure is getting common. Stuff just does not last forever.

I think you will like the AEL/AFL switch. It is faster to manipulate and never gets bumped.

Yes but the hard part is getting it to stay there.

I personally think my E-m1 III looks cooler. I never sell cameras so I'll keep them all. Ha
