BREVARD COUNTY, Florida - A large wildfire broke out at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, adjacent to NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Saturday as a severe thunderstorm passed near the area. According to archived radar and lightning data, two cloud-to-ground lightning strikes out ahead of a storm that would go Severe Thunderstorm warned at approximately 3:53 p.m. sparked the blaze. This continues to burn through the afternoon and evening, with the smoke visible on weather radar and from over ten miles away visually.
Included in the video are clips from the severe thunderstorm. Note the lightning clip included in the package is not the strike that caused the fire, but to rather show how electrified this storm was.
I hope there weren't any nesting birds in the area.
The cops in your video had nothing to do with the wildfire. We had an incident in that pullover, and I had to call 911.
Directed Energy Weapon 🔥.
I saw this from my house
We can share to social media, right?
Wow
Where exactly
Is it on Merrit Island?
Titusville. Merrit island wildlife refuge
Did that pouring rain at least put out the fire?
I’m sure it put some of it out but it’s not enough rain for that
About an hour ago it was still burning along the riverside. There was hardly any rain.
Uhhhhh
"Lightning strike"....
...the implication of you putting that in quotations being... what, exactly?
