Oh man...that was an absolutely massive misplay on 21 Gambler in the bonus round. "You can't do much better than 18..." ...except you had a SOFT 18 with 3 cards, and if you had made it to 5 cards totaling 21 or less, you would have won $1,000! An Ace, 2, or 3 would have guaranteed you the ability to take the 5th card and secure that bonus. A 10, J, Q, or K would have landed you back on 18 with $225, and taking a card with the 4-card 18 leaves 3 cards in the deck that get you $1,000 and 10 cards that bust you for an expected value of $230.76, higher than the $225 you had, and that's the worst-case scenario. A 9 would have left you on a 4-card 17, for $200, but with the chance to go for the 5th card - 4 of the 13 cards in the deck would give you $1,000 and nine of them give you $0, for an expected value of $307.69. An 8 leaves you on a 4-card 16, 5 of the 13 cards make you $1,000 and the other 8 bust you, an expected value of $384.61...and the expected value just goes higher the lower that 4th card is. That was rough.
