Must be their accountants' hack to prevent a disastrous financial year 2025. Nobody buys new F lenses any more for quite some time by now, so they need to force their old stock inventory into the unwilling market, with such massive rebates, to prevent a massive write-off of their lens stock's high inventory value in their books. 2025 will be already quite a bad year, because Nikon is already losing market share (last year in mirrorless system cameras: 13% remaining), and now they are even burdened with the Z6 III disaster. They are stuck with that until 2028. Hardly anybody buys the Z6 III, at Amazon's sales ranking it is at rank #47 (whereas a 3 years old A7 IV is at rank #6, plenty Canons are at the top end as well). #47 is a disaster for a new camera addressing a larger (middle class) customer segment. New cameras in that segment should have benefited from an introductory flash-in-the-pan sales peak caused by early adopters.
Big year in 2025 for a camera vendor? Nope. Even if any of them improve their low end cameras they still badly lose market share against smart phones. So there will be no more good years for any camera vendor, they will have decent years and they may eventually stabilze sales but they will never make big jumps into a good year anymore. Best thing they can hope for is to stop their combined market from shrinking and get some marketshare from their competitors.
Nikon didn't just abandon their DSLR customers, and with the surging sales of Z 9 and Z 8, it's time to reduce the inventory. There are also deep discounts going on with other Z cameras and lenses. Maybe it's just to capture markets, or to convert users of other systems.
Sad, sad, sad. Be positive Nikon doing very well., in my view better than Canon sleeping for a good few years and releasing not much better than what has already been out for a couple of years from Nikon. From a Sony user.

And yes, I'm speaking from experience. I do volume photography and it's still cheaper and might I say better, to use a professional lab and let them handle the headache of stocking ink, changing ink and paper, maintaining the printer etc. etc. Now that 28-105 lens? Yeah baby, great lens. 🙂
@@paulmichaelcooper5762 $1,200 for that printer is a steal, but it's Canon stealing your money. And there has been plenty of proof showing how companies (including Canon) absolutely scam you when it comes to ink. That $700 of ink is probably $100 in reality.
I'm still amazed that you can get a "new" 85mm F/1.4G. I would also agree about dropping that much on "older" lenses. I would rather get a used one...especially IF you can find it for half the price.
I can't imagine they've been selling many of these lenses new in recent years anyway. Here in europe, the 800 f/5.6 is 20.000€ new, but you can get it used in great condition for like 8.000€.
Canon, like any other manufacturer, has testing machines/chambers for aging, and this process is done in an accelerated manner. In the context of testing the durability of photo-inked paper over a period of 200 years, aging machines play a crucial role. These devices simulate the effects of time and environmental factors, such as exposure to light, humidity, and temperature fluctuations, which can affect the quality of the paper and the ink. The machines accelerate the natural aging process by exposing the paper to high-intensity light sources, often ultraviolet (UV) light, which mimics years of sunlight. Additionally, they alternate between dry and humid conditions, replicating the changes in moisture levels that the paper would experience over time. Temperature variations, from heat to cold, are also applied to evaluate how the materials react to thermal stress. The goal is to predict how well the paper and the ink will hold up over the course of two centuries. This helps manufacturers and archivists ensure the longevity of prints, especially in environments like museums or historical archives, where the preservation of such materials is vital. By simulating 200 years of aging in a matter of months or even weeks, these machines provide valuable data about the resilience and durability of different types of paper and ink.
Why? Every zoom lens I've ever had has been external zoom except 1 or 2, and it's never caused me a problem. And I have zoom lenses back to Nikon's 43-83 that are external zoom, so this is by no means a new lens thing.
@@jaybleu6169 external zooms pump air into and out of the body, which is more of an issue with mirrorless since the sensor is exposed during use. Also they don't balance as well on gimbals

I just took advantage of Nikon's Z8 and Z lens sales in July and traded in all my, "Loser, uh L MOUNT ALLIANCE" Lumix S1R/S1 and Pro-S Lenses and all I can say is, "WOW! What a noticeable and incredible difference my photos are!!" These Z lenses are incredible and the Z8 blows away the S1R! No, Nikon is not in trouble and I think they're heading in the right direction, especially after buying Red cameras! ❤📸And no, I will not be buying the new printer, it's cheaper to have a custom print shop make my prints. Don't print enough photos to buy one and refill it with $700!worth of ink!
I want this printer!!! I think sigma missed the window on that lens. Tamron really got a boost covering that range early. I love my 35-150 for studio work and all around shooting!
Because Z6iii is not for me (having Zf), Z8 is not for my type of usage too bad, no sign of Z7ii or high spec Z DX coming. And no changing brands anymore. Sale is tempting for Z7ii. Is processor, for AF bad, compared to Zf? I have Zf and D810. Personal walk-around city use. I would trade in 2 DX bodies and 3 lenses including AF-S DX 18-55 f/2.8 toward Z7ii so $2k sale price minus trade trade in, is reasonable.
I would just say stick with the Zf, because I can’t recommend the Z7ii unless you’re doing landscapes frequently and REALLY need that punch in. Z7iii probably won’t be happening anytime soon, spend money on glass is my biggest recommendation. I would recommend the Z8 since as someone who also had the 810 the Z8 is effectively the true successor to that and the 850. But it is pricey. Hope this helps?
I'm planning to get a ZF too! the sensor is old but still outputs better RAW files than the z6iii. My only concern is how good or bad the dials feel and how good or cheap-feeling the rubber/vinyl surfaces feel.
I think his Sigma 28-105mm will be in my bag. I have waited for Sony, Sigma or Tamron to do this, since Canon did. If it’s great for video, it will cover a lot of ground and for half of the price of the Canon. This 28-105mm and the Sigma 70-200mm both at 2.8 has a wedding covered. If you had the Sigma 14-24, your establishing shots are covered at the super wide end. Two lenses for the price of one Canon RF, is not bad indeed. Thanks for releasing that price Jared, that’s the price that I was hoping for on the 28-105mm.
I want the Canon 1100 printer! I'm currently using the Canon Pro 9000 Mk II but it is getting hard to find the ink anymore. It has served me well in the years that I've had it. I can't believe I got it originally bundled with a camera or lens or something I bought one Christmas.
This might be the first third party lens (if it were a rf option) that I would be interested in trying. I would love to see a ~50-105ish f2 lens from someone that is a bit smaller than the current 24-105f2.8 option. 🤞

Got the 500 f4 e lens for 3200 this year. Great lens for my d850. Not so much on the zf for balance, but can work. Still will be useful on the z9 if I ever get one
