Hai-Kyung Suh is known for her rich, round tone, and singing voice-like phrasing, characteristics of the Romantic style of piano playing that was predominant in the Golden Age of pianism.
She studied with Nadia Reisenberg and Sascha Gorodnitzki, and won the top prize in the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in 1980. Suh gave her US debut recital at Lincoln Center in 1985 as the winner of the William Petschek Prize, and was one of 25 world renowned pianists invited to perform at a Carnegie Hall gala concert commemorating Steinway & Sons’ 135th anniversary.
Although Suh is especially noted for her performances of the works of Russian Romantic composers such as Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninov, her repertoire ranges from Mozart through Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Brahms, to Debussy and Ravel, and contemporary composers such as Lowell Liebermann.
Suh has recorded the complete piano concerti of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov with Alexander Dmitriev and the Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, and four Mozart piano concerti with Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

She keeps the clarity of the melody while maintaining the passion and fieriness of the accompaniment. Solid interpretation.

She reminds me of Gina Bachauer who I last saw and heard over 70 years ago. Whilst there are some very talented female pianists in this day and age , this lady rises above all.
서혜경님은 이제 피아노로 이야기과 감정을 전달해주시네요. 어찌 보면 단지 피아노 소리일 뿐인데...... 생활하면서 음악을 틀어 놓아도 집중하지 않으면 배경 음악이 되어버리곤 합니다. 그러니까 의도적으로 귀기울여 들어야만 하는 경우죠. 그런데 서혜경님의 피아노 소리는 움직이던 발을 멈추게 하고 바쁘게 치던 키보드를 침묵시킵니다. 무엇보다 무사히 회복하시고 형용하기 힘들 정도로 더 좋은 음악으로 돌아오셔서 정말 기쁩니다.좋은 연주 뒷목 당겨 앉혀진 양 정신없이 아무 것도 못하고 너무나 잘 들었습니다. 감사합니다!!!

최근에 알게된 곡이라 호로비츠나 키신의 연주로 몇번째 찾아듣고있었는데 특히 서혜경 피아니스트님의 연주가 격정적이면서도 너무 부드럽게 들려서 가장 좋습니다 감동이네요
There were moments when I gasped. This recording of the Scriabin etude is my favorite now.

잊은줄 알았던것이 실은 잊은것이 아니라 꼭꼭 숨겨놓았었던 것일까?
오랜시간동안 희석되었을것이라 생각했던 것이 실은 응축되고 있었던 것일까?
그 때의 순간이 파노라마처럼 지나가는 것이 아니라,
그 때의 감정이 무겁게 가슴을 짓누르고 간다.
앞에서는 내가 실제로 겪었던 것 이상으로 더 아름답고 로맨틱하게 그려놓은만큼,
뒤에서는 내 심장을 더 지독하게 저리게 한다.
이미 십수년이 지나 무뎌졌어야 했을 감정인데...
앞으로 10년, 20년 인생의 무게가 더해질수록,
더욱 심장이 저릴것 같은 연주다.
서혜경은 키신의 레퍼토리를 좋아하는듯 ~~ ㅎㅎㅎ

Very nice!
1) She actually makes the first part melodious and pleasant to hear. There is an interesting “echo” effect in the way she plays the first part (brings out the inner melody to echo the main melody eg at around 0:33).
2) The second part (most people’s favorite) is also very well played, with the melody brought out well, with good choice of rubato.

It's funny, I've made very similar comments when there's the rare Ravel recording that I really like.
are there any mistakes? I don't know and I couldn't care less, this woman is perfect!!!!!! I love the way Scriabin sounds through your hands...it's wild and poetic at the same time.... I'm in love with your sound....

Not bad but around 2.30 and again at 2.43 :the same one but last ascending chord before the top chord sounds a bit 'off' . I also get the feeling she's maybe struggling with a heavy action?
Yeah there is a big difference between having all the notes, which she has, and playing this with command and musicially. All one has to do is listen to the Kissin performance at any age and you will hear the huge difference. I also got the feeling that she was struggling, Kissin has the command of the piece.
Scriabin was a prick writing this with his really small hands, huge leaps and large intervals to catch fast, though beautiful if you master this romantic chopinesuque piece
