Hey guys, seminole fan for life and stumbled on to this pod and I love it so far. The insight is great and video to along with you're talking points, just subbed and keep up the great work!
As much as I love Odell , defensive line recruiting has got to be better , we don’t have really an elite guys behind these guys playing right now , that’s ridiculous.
What has worried me is that we couldn't recruit after going 13-0 during the regular season! How is that possible? Now I realize this could have been a good year too had we not shit the bed. Also, how come no team tried to poach any of our coaches after 13-0?? Very strange.
There is a world where Brett Veneables could get fired at Oklahoma and he would need a program to get back in his stride in a DC role at FSU. We can dream lol 🎉🙏🏼
I think “culturally”, Fuller’s defense just never resonated our fan base even when you could demonstrate statistically that they improved every year (apart from this year of course lol). We like the fast downhill aggressive defenses.
These hires all better be lights out , it’s the only Mike can save himself . They better be dogs on the trail , like we’re never standing outside someone’s house looking like a dumbass ala Ruben Bain . We never lose a solid recruit again , and he better be able to develop.
I’m in on the idea of Hampton, and honestly Tom Allen really intrigues me. I know folks are going to complain about not hiring a 30 year old kid who can just recruit his life away but I would rather my position coaches be the real deal recruiters.
Will you guys do this for the other open positions? Specifically WR? I’m really curious about Tiquan Underwood since I know Adam has been saying he wants him on the board. When I was looking into him it seemed like a decent number of Pitt fans were unimpressed in his time there so just curious on how good his coaching is
I know it’s hard to do, BUT take away this season, and look at the last two seasons, especially last year. Fuller’s defense kicked ass! Even this year, the defense looked pretty good, especially in the red zone. Yes, they bent a lot, but they forced teams to kick field goals. Their offensive gave them NO HOPE whatsoever! Prove me wrong.
I agree to an extent. It's obvious we didn't have the best defensive players like last year's team, but there are way too many coachable errors that have gone on this season, even with veteran players. It's been improved in some performances, and I agree the offense is a gigantic problem for our defense. Our defense is too predictable though, and if you watch let's say Duke's defense, you can tell they are coach and schemed at a higher level. I think everyone just gotta little too comfortable after some success and they lost focus of the granular detail they worked with before to get to an undefeated season.
please...why would a coach leave oregon for fsu...even if he is a co defensive coordinator...why would you ever leave oregon for fsu...ha...its not the 90's
I mean Taggart left for FSU and Cristobal left for Miami. I don't think it's a great move personally but you couldn't fault the guy if he wanted the autonomy of running his own defense.
Remember a lot of times some of these coaches look really good because they have good players, nothing more. And maybe over 20 years, they only have 5 good years which means they are only good when they have good players! The search should maybe focus on coaches that don't have many BAD years!
If Purdue fires their head coach Ryan Walters Id take him as DC in a second. He's an elite young defensive mind and he was a successful DC in both the SEC and the Big10. I also really like Chris Hampton.
Keep in mind Randy Shannon's defenses at Miami were top-10 5 out of 6 years and the other year he was top 30 in total defense when he was DC in the early 2000's. He has 2 games to show something. I know he doesn't recruit well. I know he hasn't been the best as linebackers coach but he was under our clown Fuller.
Tremendous interest doesn’t mean the guys calling are worth hiring. I would hope so, but wouldn’t hold my breath. Would cool if Venables became available and would take the job. I have a feeling he’s not too happy with head coaching and vice versa.
Coaching is way more important than recruiting.... There are so many 5 star duds and 3 star gems. Good coaching and scouting can make 3 stars into 4 stars... And coaching will ultimately win games. Our team this year has talent with attrocious coaching and look at this historically bad season!
I’d love a highly skilled NFL coach on our defensive coordinator spot and a young top notch ace recruiter who knows the game for offensive coordinator.
Unfortunately I missed the show, just my opinion. Either young coaches, that can really recruit or more established coaches that has a name ( Mullen, Mushchamp), I’m a die hard FSU fan for 60+ years, I don’t care where they coached as long as they can recruit! The a M&M coaches above were great coaches, but not great recruiters
Guys We do not need to look at SMU this is the equivalent of “DJU looked good let’s grab him” The defenses against us aren’t necessarily good we just sucked that bad.
@@marksherman1887 Lots of Kentucky fans are calling for it. Kentucky fans are delusional about their program’s ability to compete in the SEC. It seems to you and I that firing Stoops would be the worst move for them but they honestly think they can draw a better coach lol
@@marksherman1887 Stoops also is not happy about the NIL era. He might be favorable to a coordinator position where he can just focus on football. There is an issue of Stoops alcoholism and how that would fit with Norvell but I miss his defenses at FSU.
Absolutely not on Tom Allen. You may as well hire Will Muschamp and that's a definitive no. What are you guys talking about? You need a DC that will energize the recruits, not someone that will collect social security in a few years.
There's a balance imo. Of course we would love a recruiter but this is also the most important schematic position on staff so if you're going to take a non recruiter this would be the place. Plus, I wouldn't discount older guys. You don't need to be young to be a good recruiter. Heck, Kirby is probably the best recruiter around and he looks like Friar Tuck.
lol ha, ha, and yes sir we need a modern coach who understands todays pass game. A DC who is proactive with his calls as to someone who is reactive to what the offense wants to do. Aggressive and assertive but rational on critical downs.
Cant take risks on young coordinator that doesnt have big time P4 experience.. this pick has to be a grandslam and we need a domt even bend mentality that strikes fear in offenses.
Bob Bostad run game coordinator and Oline coach. Go look up who Coach Bostad developed at Wisconsin at OL and LB. Those dudes were studs and mostly lower stars. Bostad's a stud with BIG10 recruiting ties. Norvell restructure your contract to give Coach half your salary so he can salvage your whole career. New FSU DCo must have a full head of hair, a deep voice that makes recruit's Mommas yes Daddy he'll sign, and a raging hard 🥒 when calling pressures on any down.
29 players gone, minimum. A few players didn’t play for the money to go to the NFL. Payton didn’t play next level football, Farmer, Jackson, S. Brown, A. Z. Should also stay. Just a quick go thru of the r-jr or true jr. That would be smart to stay
Why do fsu fans always bring up Muschamp? And idk if we really want to test how much SMU is willing to spend. Oil money is real,SMU dc isnt coming here UNLESS he just loved working under Mike. The thing i need to know is what is going to happen to Odell? Everyone just ignores his failings in recruiting the past what? 5 years. If it wasnt for Mike getting guys like Fiske and Lovett that position wouldve have been terrible the past 3 years. Yes, MIKE. I never heard Fiske saying the reason he came here was because of senior citizen Odell Haggins.
you've got to be kidding me you're fine with a DC who can't recruit wth is wrong with you you re re?! the main problem fsu as a whole is the fact not 1 of them can recruit! players over plays buddy smh.
The dB coach is gonna recruit db's, the DL coach for linemen, linebacker coach for linebacker, and so on. The effectiveness of the D will recruit itself if you have representation at each position.
@bryanwaters3890 well then every single coach needs to be fired by that logic. the talent is not on the roster now they can't recruit now so what's going to change? this has been yrs with no ability to evaluate and recruit talent.
Kev why are you on this show you don't know anything about football? "I'd call this a even front" smh. you don't even know what a or how to say single high safety
These fronts aren't as straightforward as you suggest. If you have 3 guys down but they're aligned in the 1 and 3 is that an even or odd front? What if there's two stand up rush ends? What if they shift to a 4i, 0, 4i look pre cadence? Is it a single high defense if they roll late from a 2 high look? Or are we talking MOFO still? This is my channel my man. The body of work speak for itself.

Not only that, he could say he is done with being a head coach and wants to be a defensive coordinator again. I’d love to get Venables or Muschamp
Our linebackers would actually be playmakers again
never happen...dont have time to wait for him
If anything he'd go to Miami when Guidry leaves. No reason to attach himself to the dumpster fire that is FSU
Yes exactly!... Agreed Muschamp or Venables!
Travis Williams from Ark, should be the guy IMO. Big time recruiter.
Beautiful insight gentleman. Always an enjoyable viewing
What’s up guys. Thanks for this
Dave Aranda for DC if Baylor fires him as HC.
Nice stuff guys
I’m with CoachAB. Give us SEC AND BIG T10 talent!
Lol. They'll be lucky to get FCS talent at this point.
Money and prestige cache does still matter, 1 bad season doesn't erase 40+ yrs of program prestige

I’m in on the idea of Hampton, and honestly Tom Allen really intrigues me. I know folks are going to complain about not hiring a 30 year old kid who can just recruit his life away but I would rather my position coaches be the real deal recruiters.

Hampton from Oregon, Williams from Arkansas, or I might even like Tom Allen.

We're definitely doing it for OC but WR and other positions will be dependent on interest
Mickey was a secondary guy.
Recruiting should be a HUGE priority
Sure and hopefully you can make more changes to fill less important coaching positions with recruiters as well

Agreed... I think it's more of a recruiting issue here.
Defense sucked this year. Period.
Look at the players he had the last two years. When your scheme is dependent on generational talent, it's not a good scheme
Ur smoking drugs talking about fuller defense kicked ass smh that's a lie
What about Nicholson, and let Sims being LB coach?
I like Will Muschamp for DC
Idk if smu coach is going to make a horizontal move especially being at an acc championship level team already .
Yeah it's doubtful but it is a name that has been brought up so have to do due diligence
Well, it’s not horizontal for one.
