This is the most 70's version of this song I've ever seen. Everyone now a days does it in what they think is the 20's style, but this is unabashedly seventies, it's great.
Truly one of the sexiest women ever Vincent ever..Truly one of the finest human beings. She was so easy to be with. She was so self deprecating. She didn't take herself seriously but she took her craft seriously.Nowadays thats hard to find.
@@chriskorman6565 I've had a huge crush on this woman for decades. I'm surprised she and Steve Martin didn't marry, but I guess the reasons it didn't turn out that way are between them.
In those days you didn't get on the Carol Burnett show unless you were at least "great". Clearly Bernadette qualified....she put in a Broadway quality appearance on a TV show. And for those of you who didn't like the voice, I suggest you're probably too young to know it was just part of the act (which was well done, by the way).
Sealove bravo.I totally agree.BP was a walking and talking tour de force performer in every medium of the industry. She has very few peers even today who can do it all.Peter matz who won a emmy for a special with barbara was one of the finest arrangers in the biz bar none. The best thing i can say about BP is that she is more warm/sweet/funny/loving then she is talented. My dad had a wicked crush on BP Who didn't.
Peters had just starred on Broadway in the David Merrick musical MACK AND MABEL opposite Robert Preston. Her reviews were great, but the show's were less so, and the show closed after only two months, in November 1974. The musical CHICAGO was supposed to open in late 1974, but the opening was delayed till June 1975 because of director Bob Fosse's heart attack. ALL THAT JAZZ is the opening number in CHICAGO (as well as Fosse's movie about a director who has a heart attack while putting together a show). So this was broadcast before CHICAGO opened on Broadway.
She was only 27, she was already a star (or you didn't get on Carol Burnett's show), she could sing, dance, and act. She could have retired, but.....she just got better and better....a real pro for her whole career.
I was a 13 year old girl when she did this. I was enamored of Carol Burnett, and this was the first time i'd seen Bernadette. I fell in love. We didn't have VCR's, so i had this Sears tape recorder that i held up to the TV to save this performance. I only saw it once (maybe twice), but i must have listened to it 100 times. I was so in love with her Gibson girl looks and her ringing voice. That sexuality she slathered all over the cuteness had a permanent effect on me. I'm SO JAZZED to find this!
holy moly, this is incredible. a great number by a great lady, from a terrific variety show! i miss the days of extended wide shots with no quick-cut edits, so you can actually see the dancers and the dance steps. today's short attention span edits during musical numbers drive me up the wall (are you listening, "glee"?). thank you for posting this. :)
Another amazing performance from Bernadette. She is truly one of the wonders of the world, and, without question, the greatest Broadway star of al time!!!
I agree. I love her to pieces and I've listened to all her songs to see what everyone loves. She's won about a million Tonys so she must be doing something right.
She was amazing and there is not one type of Entertainment she couldn't do. She is the only person that left Bob Hope speechless. She beat him to every punchline and she was funny. She could do Stand Up Comedy. She could do Dramatic Roles. She could dance and sing any Broadway Musical in her own style. She could kill with her cuteness. She sold every performance she ever performed.
Back in the day, shows used to play on the road in several cities (New Haven, Philly, Detroit, Chicago, etc.) prior to opening in New York. There wasn't any "workshops" or previews (previews came in sometime in the late 80's). "Chorus Line" was uniquely created out of workshops back in the early 70's and then taken out on the road. I first saw that in Detroit at the Fisher. That may be where this date confusion came from. I remember things were always chaotic around Mr. Fosse during this time.
This is from the DVD info - Show #821, Original Air Date: March 15, 1975 Guest Staring: Roddy McDowall, Bernadette Peters Q&A The Family: Visit to Phillip--Cast and Roddy McDowall All That Jazz--Bernadette Peters, Singers and Dancers The Typists--Carol and Bernadette Peters...
I had such a crush on her as a kid on the Carol Burnett show...I've never seen her pop up on any reunion shows...does anyone know if she and Carol have any issues these days???
The only quibble I have with this performance is the tempo. It drags so much, and for so long, that once it's finally up to speed, it makes the ending seem rather abrupt. Otherwise, it's quite good, and it's also a great song for featuring the backup dancers. Very nice.
@GraceMcVie Thanks Grace. I always like to update my info whenever I can. With your info I was able to find the exact date she performed the song and have now updated the title to reflect it.
I doubt it. Ms. Peters is an INCREDIBLY busy woman, she was probably in some Broadway show or filming a movie or on tour during all of the reunions. However, she is famously nice, just a really sweet and quiet person.
@HuckHuck96 She always stayed pretty busy. I do agree that she would have been great as Roxie but she did have many great parts and a lot of awards for her performances.
@vampirecutie5 lol no I was just talking with a friend the other day about that. I think bernadette peters is amazing still and she is definitely my favorite and I think she has the cutest speaking voice. I almost like to listen to her talk more than I like to listen to her sing.
@011FunnyBunny like, when you're wearing shoes with heels on them, and you lean on the back of them, causing you to tilt backwards. Like the equivalence would be sitting in a chair, and leaning back. y'know? Like the way they tell you not to do in school because the chair can fall from under you?
@HuckHuck96 She had stopped doing stage work by the time the Original Production took place, and was too old to be in the revival. She would have been fantastic tho.
This is the most 70's version of this song I've ever seen. Everyone now a days does it in what they think is the 20's style, but this is unabashedly seventies, it's great.
Bernadette Peters: one of the most beautiful women who've ever walked the earth! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And talent-gifted, of course!
vincent sartain Absolutely!!!
Truly one of the sexiest women ever Vincent ever..Truly one of the finest human beings. She was so easy to be with. She was so self deprecating. She didn't take herself seriously but she took her craft seriously.Nowadays thats hard to find.

One of the sexiest performances, by any woman, ever!
I love that pouty Betty boop voice she's doing! It's so cute!
For some reason she kinda reminds me of an adult Shirley Temple!! She is so gorgeous and I love her music!!

@njatty Wow! That's mind-blowing, that this performance predates the opening number on Bway. Yet it's clearly the same tune
Y’all this used to be our weekly television! I took it for granted, I miss it so much today.
She's awesome!! I love her voice and the way she dances... everything, I just love everything in this!
I came for Bernadette's voice but stayed for the choreography
Best comment on the internet!!😂😂
Chicago is one of my favorite musicals. This was a treat as a 27 year old. This was beyond my time.
She was only 27, she was already a star (or you didn't get on Carol Burnett's show), she could sing, dance, and act. She could have retired, but.....she just got better and better....a real pro for her whole career.

She looks absolutely stunningly beautiful while wearing that black dress
Also this song is quite charming and I like it very much

Goddammit she is so adorable and cute it almost manages to take a layer of darkness and ice from my shriveled heart
This is an insane amount of choreography to perform!
I have been madly in love with this lady since I was 9 years old.
Another amazing performance from Bernadette. She is truly one of the wonders of the world, and, without question, the greatest Broadway star of al time!!!
The greatest Musical star Broadway has ever had. One of the most unique and interesting performers of all time.
Interesting interpretation of that song!
I love how Bernadette has a lovely classical voice but has the guts to rock this voice
Love what's she has on
my grandma made me watch this show and i fell in love with the show and im 16
You have a very smart grandma. :-)
I agree. I love her to pieces and I've listened to all her songs to see what everyone loves. She's won about a million Tonys so she must be doing something right.
She is so talented.
She is fantastic. She was then and still is to this day. I love her!❤😄
She has such a strange voice, it's just so odd I love it(:
Love her! Simply stunning and brilliant! A classic!
shES SO YOUNG AND CUTE
know this song by heart thanks for putting it up
You're welcome. I love sharing them!
I LOVE BERNADETTE PETERS!!!!
Just marvelous. So wonderful to hear her sing Kander & Ebb.
And before the show CHICAGO (and its opening number) opened on Broadway!

i love bernadette peters :) i wish i had her amazing voice and dance skills

(not literally folks!)
My God ! I'm in love. Good grief!
Amazing vocals and routine
I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!!
She was another one under rated she was also was very talented
**APPLAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!** That was so good
LOVE BERNADETTE!! 🌹
This is just the most adorable thing I've ever seen Bernadette do.
I won't hear this song in any other style, now. lololol
Omg, dancing and singing while not falling in those heels! I love Bernadette Peters!
OMG LOVE THIS SONG
God, the 70s... miss this show!
Can’t believe she is 72 now! Such a talented woman!!
extraordinaria I love her
I love her voice.
Music & Entertainment is so different now . 😔 (2015) - She's amazing tho ! 😍
Songs are so much different now than they were back then...
This is from the DVD info -
Show #821, Original Air Date: March 15, 1975
Guest Staring: Roddy McDowall, Bernadette Peters
Q&A
The Family: Visit to Phillip--Cast and Roddy McDowall
All That Jazz--Bernadette Peters, Singers and Dancers
The Typists--Carol and Bernadette Peters...
I had such a crush on her as a kid on the Carol Burnett show...I've never seen her pop up on any reunion shows...does anyone know if she and Carol have any issues these days???
SHE IS VERY TALENTED
Ladies and gentlemen, the queen of Broadway.
I wish I could be on the show
wow.....
yum! but alas ..... we all get old.. I thank you for the fanastic music
@princessjoots It shows why she was considered the queen of Broadway for many years.
her accent is an epic cuteness
Wow she looks so young !
@TheatreFilmBuff I agree. She is just great!
The only quibble I have with this performance is the tempo. It drags so much, and for so long, that once it's finally up to speed, it makes the ending seem rather abrupt. Otherwise, it's quite good, and it's also a great song for featuring the backup dancers. Very nice.
Her version is quite interesting
This actually looks like Fosse as well. Very simplified, but definitely him. They dance around her.
She does have- she does employ several moves in her routine. Very entertaining. Most of her fame is her exact routines on Broadway. More to say?
@GraceMcVie Thanks Grace. I always like to update my info whenever I can. With your info I was able to find the exact date she performed the song and have now updated the title to reflect it.
How was this 45 years ago and she still looks the same
Bernadette P is... too much for words, talent, sex, an attitude that is so balanced - hot, yet childish. A RARE human being, love the hell out of her!
@shay32211 I always thought that back in her hey day, she could play a perfect bette boop!
I doubt it. Ms. Peters is an INCREDIBLY busy woman, she was probably in some Broadway show or filming a movie or on tour during all of the reunions. However, she is famously nice, just a really sweet and quiet person.
I don't know how to explain the dates conflict unless some songs were released prior to the opening. Anyone else???
She did... The first run on broadway.
She is SO Betty Boop like!
So sexy and so very professional. Can you imagine the hours of rehearsal that went into that production? Wow.
@dgarnes1 Opinions do vary. In this case Bernadette Peters is widely considered to be the best braodway actress/singer of her times so...
I saw CHICAGO when it first opened when Liza Minnelli replace Gwen Verdon for a few weeks and immediately thought Peters would someday play Roxie.
I almost like to listen to her talk more than I like to listen to her sing.
she seriously hasnt aged one bit since this.
@911Sway A better questions where did it come from. She's from New York City.
She was born in 1948, so she would have been around 26 or 27 in 1975.
@911Sway lol she's not southern, she's from New York! :-D
i think she look younger and more beautiful now at 64 then then (not that shes not beautiful then too)
i could totally picture her playing harley quinn from batman XD i love her voice :D
@011FunnyBunny I think she was quatting but it does give the illusion of floating. If so, I'm sure it was intentional,
they were - Joey Grey did Razzle Dazzle on The Muppets as well
Bern-a dette is a gift to entertainment. wow... if she could be better she would be Betty Boop.
@MzCharmedFan0214 And dancing quite well!
Ozone Park!
with this arrangement..I wonder what Kander would say ?
@011FunnyBunny I guess she was floating. :D
who did the arrangement...?
@011FunnyBunny like, when you're wearing shoes with heels on them, and you lean on the back of them, causing you to tilt backwards. Like the equivalence would be sitting in a chair, and leaning back. y'know? Like the way they tell you not to do in school because the chair can fall from under you?
@HuckHuck96
She had stopped doing stage work by the time the Original Production took place, and was too old to be in the revival. She would have been fantastic tho.
I love Bernadette Peters.. But in this she reminded me of Darla from the Little Rascals.. Works for her though!
anyone else think she kinda sounds like Ms. Swan?
u can hear her southern accent in her singing voice. where did that accent go anyways?
@011FunnyBunny I think she rolled back on her heels...
she is a little fox
She has Betty boop facial expressions
