- 2011 Murano AWD 117,661 miles. Removed drain plug (10mm hex). Measured fluid and replaced. I removed 4.5 qts approx. I put back in 4 qts 14oz's. This put it on the full mark after a drive and re-checking. I found 5 qts of Nissan NS-2 fluid on eBay for $90.00 with free shipping.
Recently did my 2012 Murano at 98k. Purchased with 82k with no history of fluid servicing. Dealership refused to service because I was too close to 100k. Drain and fill went smoothly. 10mm hex was a bit of a pain to get off...but PB Blaster and an extension pipe got it done. 5 quarts came out via drain plug...5 quarts went in via dipstick neck. Fluid was very dark brown...original fluid maybe?! No prior transmission issues or symptoms. Shifts smoothly just as it did before. Also replaced the external filter behind the driver's side wheel...not sure if this was necessary but it was cheap and convenient. Video was helpful!
I called the dealer and asked if I were to have them change the fluid if they would take off the oil pan and clean it out - and they said no. So good enough for me that's who I was having do it before now. Giving this a try, hoping more than 5 quarts doesn't come out.
no more then 5qts will come out.
I changed my fluid for the first time at 198,000.
Fluid was dark also pulled pan and cleaned both magnets as well as changed transmission filter also has an external filter behind drivers side front wheel well. Took 5 qts CVT fluid. Easy work. Dealer told me they wouldn’t change fluid and that it had an internal filter that they had to split the transmission to get to. Didn’t know wtf they were talking about. Torqued internal filter and pan bolts. All good!
Anybody who waits 198,000 mi to change transmission fluid when it should have been changed the first time at 20 and then every 25,000 thereafter, you get what you deserve
@@willsrestorations Imagine getting this offended over what someone else does with their own property
I have a 2007 Nissan Murano with over 210,000 miles and drive it like a TrackHawk yesterday I changed the CVT fluid for the first time and it’s still running great
Nice
We have a 2007 murano that started the whine this weekend. It too has over 210,000 miles on it. Changing the fluid now. Hopefully this fixes the whining...very annoying.

i just took my 2009 to the dealer yesterday with 146k , miles on it. and they refused to even touch it, Due to the amount of miles that was on it. They were afraid at that point damage would occur with that many miles on it.
Used this vid to see how much would come out.
I let mine sit for about an hour. Got about 5 quarts out. Not much more than you did but a lil bit .
100ml off the full 5 quarts.
Thanks for the vid
4 qts for FWD and 5 qts for AWD, same for Rogue, Murano, Pathfinder or QX60, still good advice to check your dipstick.
@@LCY77 mines only fwd i still got 5 in there. Idk maybe i just waited a lot longer.

Hey brother thanks Im learning here and this was the best video. They had me looking for a differntial :-(
I have a black 2012! And also live in MN. Thanks for the great video!
Super helpful video! Thanks for making this
where do you refill the CVT transmission fluid? do you have to put it back in through the dipstick tube?
Yes dipstick hole.
Why are there any downvotes on this at all?
My car broke down yesterday (new year's eve 😐) and I ruled it down to the fluid. You have the exact model as mine, so this was a lifesaver. Thank you!
THIS FIXED YOUR CAR?
😳

How many litres of CVT Transmission Fluid do I need to change my transmission fluid.
If U ever have rust there’s nothing better than por15. U don’t even need to take the rust off just can’t have grease an oil It will bond to and through the rust and never rust again
Thanks for doing this video!
Gloves maybe would have been a good idea
awesome video, I will make mine next week, just a question, in the NISSAN owner forums people talk about make a flush with fresh fluid and then get out and put a new 5 quarts more, so all seems like a waste 5quarters for "flush" as I saw in your video you make it directly, that Im want to make the same, as I can see there's 2 yers from the video, how is working now? stills like a beauty as your video? thanks!
My wife's daily driver no problems. Getting ready to change the fluid again. Do it twice a year or so apart and you will have fresh fluid.
You can do 5qts and then drive it for awhile (even months or whatever) and then do another 5 qts. That gets most of it. I agree on the waste - not a fan. Especially on this expensive NS-2.
Doug, do the Transfer Case and Rear Differential change videos too. Thanks.
is this the same procedure for 2011-2014? and everyone just reuses the o-ring?
What is the oil drain plug torque for 2012 murano? Is there a filter also for CVT oil that we need to change?
This CVT has 2 filters - one screen filter inside the transmission (drop the pan) and one bolted to the side of it (an inline filter). You can replace both of them.
why didn't you show the fill process...geez
That poor car basically puked that cvt fluid out so quick.. It prob felt so much better afterwards.. 😂
Poor Murano lol
2 seconds joy
How many quarts?
Am in Ghana how can I get the CVT please 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
the job was not completed 😉
So...when's the fill part happen??
When i did the drain i measured a total of 6 quarts that came out is it ok if i put 5 quarts or should i add another quart?
I would put in 5 and then check it. You don't want to put in too much.
that cvt fluid cap retention device is a terrible design, nothing needs that much assistance to stay put. I would recommend breaking part of the tab off so it doesn't require much messing around to remove.
Y el filtro no los cambias
use the drained transmission oil over again in windex spray bottle and spray button of rusty cars
I'm seeing people take off the oil pan and clean the inside of the pan and the magnets. Is that something I HAVE to do when my vehicle has 95,000 miles on it? It doesn't appear that was done in this vid?
If you drop the pan, replace the seal around the oil pan too. At 180k my cousins murano oil seals are failing.
What bit opens that plug?
10mm hex
Nice job.thanks for the walk thru
where is the refill opening for the CVT fluid? does it all go down the small hole where the dip stick is?
Yes
So I guess u dont have to fill it back up!?!
No
lol I was gonna say that too. So I have to fill it through that tiny hole where he checked the tranny fluid?
So why did you decide half ass the work? If you decided to invest the time to change out the transmission fluid why not do it the correct way by changing out the transmission filter and clean out the pan while you have it off?
I'm lazy and its better than doing nothing at all.
Drain plug Torque to 15 ft/lbs?
How many miles before you change the filter?
If you don't apply a scan tool to see the actual CVT temp count, i wouldnt do it. No one shows this.
does it have the other plug to determine the right amount of fluid
It has a dipstick
Is there a cartridge filter for the transmission?
Yes it is on the inner side of the driver front tire
Yes you drain the oil like shown in the video then pop the bolts off that surround the transmission cover where the transmission oil was drained from. You'll see a hole as well as some magnets to catch metal shavings. Clean off the magnets and pop the cover off the middle piece and the filter is behind that.
@@michaelkeefer6799 thank you. How much a service cost?
There's no external oil filter for Nissan cvt.
Can I get the transmission fluid anywhere beside Ebay like at a Nissan dealer?
Yes any Nissan dealer. Call them. Compare price. Also available on Amazon.
Wat type you put back in ns2 or ns3 cvt fluid?
NS2
@@deadbugdoug ok thanks i prepare to change my 2011 nissan elgrand cvt fluid in the next 3 weeks with ns2 👍 jdm import
What is the Hex size of the tool ? Please reply
10mm
I did mine 4 times. cvt not nissan brands ok.
overpaid only takes 2 at a time
Downvoted. Taking out that dipstick was the b&$#% and you probably deleted yourself struggling with it on purpose. It's like an anti-theft lock that the owner can't even get off. You should have showed us how.
Never drain the CVT oil without dropping the pan and removing the filter and replacing it. Just another defective video by some do-it-yourselfer who absolutely has no clue as to what the hell he's talking about. There's no crush wash on them genius, there's an o ring that you were looking at but probably didn't see.
incompleted video, No one has to use nissan fluid, any CVT NS2 is compatible, VALVOLINE and others. If you dont remove the oil in the radiator, again this is an incomplete video, also the external trans cvt external filter must be replaced, or again you perform an inconpleted job, the filter is bolted to the driverside of the engine, remove the access panel, to the left is the canister filter, one hose entering, the other exiting to the transmission, a clogged filter "will starve" your transmission regardless of changing the oil NS2.
The cvt holds 10 Qts, but youll only drain 4.5 to 5
you should make a video showing that.
I charge to teach, 250 per hour.
@@mypersonalreview656 🤣🤣 That’s a joke
@@mypersonalreview656 But your complaints are FREE, LOL. 🤣. Pro vs DIY.
Maybe you should do it to your own Nissan instead of bitching about it here, the filler doesn’t need to be changed, only the fluid, overwork is stupid
WHY DONT YOU SHOW HOW TO REMOVE THE DIPSTCK. WE DIDN'T COME HERE FOR AUDIO ONLY WE WANT TO SEE IT!!
