I want to be very clear with the intent of this song. This song is meant to empower the people. There is powerful imagery in this video that will offend many people. I do not apologize for that. The reality of the world we live in is that many people in power have their hearts filled with hate. As long as we refuse to hold them accountable, their practices, though not widely accepted, are privately tolerated. We as a people must do better.
Yes, I agree, all lives do matter. But the good shepherd would leave the 99 for the 1 that is lost. We have an obligation to strengthen the weakened parts of our society.
You’ll notice there is an “Abolish Police” sign in this video. Though personally, I believe in defunding law enforcement and reallocating those funds into local government programs to affect low income housing and education, I did not want to silence any voices in my community.
