This is my favorite etude by Duport. Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte liked hearing Duport play and asked to handle Duport's valuable cello. Duport reluctantly let Bonaparte have it, and Napoleon unwittingly put a dent in Duport's cello. Duport was furious. You can imagine how much that cello must be worth today.
What a so beautiful performance this is. His interpretation is so touching. I'm very lucky to hear him for free. Thank you for sharing , Sir Dieltiens.

I'm learning this etude and while watching this video I was just crying in the corner edit: i gave up edit2: ok, i got myself together and decided to return to this finger twister edit3: i did it :D!!! moral of the story: never give up, but sometimes give yourself a rest
@@skull9159 i felt like i needed a new hand when i first started ngl it hurt so bad after just 3-5 lines (3months ago) but now i learnt it. It's not that hard but it can get incosistent in rhythm and go off tune especially in the double note parts. :') Need arm and hand strength for this one! My hands now only hurt if i play the entire etude like 2-3 times in a row(though my pinky always hurt ngl). Gotta practice or your hand will stay too weak to play and it hurts like a mf It's alr tho. My pinky still hurts like hell when I have to take double note with it. I just smile through the pain now-

Obviously the execution is brilliant, but I've never been able to see the point of playing No 7 so fast that you can't even hear the arpeggiated notes. In many cases it seems to be "because they can"! There are many worse examples than this one, of course, but so often it's so fast that you only get the scrunched bass note and a momentary scrape before the next one. This is such a fabulous Etude, I want to hear all the notes -- they're there for a reason!
Brilliant execution?? And the point of playing so fast is perhaps that you then (almost) cannot hear wrong notes (approx. 0.21). I have only one edition, but have heard several. I like Dieltiens, but still... Awful camera.

@@bernamej Hard to say precisely. It varied a lot regionally but you could probably find record of the time and region. So I would say it's not the wrong key at least 😂 the key is the same but the A that it's all being referenced off of is at a different pitch

This cello is made using the "B-mould", the same as was used for the Duport cello..
