    The great thing I’ve had from my physio was actually getting some exercises & stretches on an email with links to videos and a little basic tickbox record I could make. Where I’ve been before they talk you through them and then the next day you’re going “what were those exercises again?”. So that’s my top tip for physios - give your clients something they can refer to..

    Great video Katie and thanks for focusing on the bits other people miss out.
    All to often the beginning gets missed out as people like to just go straight into the hard graft so to speak. The best thing anyone can do is get your body tuned so you can actually do the hard graft otherwise it will all be for nothing.
    Thanks for the link to Phil's book. As I'm actually watching from my hospital bed after having knee surgery this morning still a bit high off the morphine hence the waffle.🤣
    I'll be buying this book as part of my recovery plan so I can get back on my bike stronger than before.
    Cheers Katie and thanks Phil for writing it. 👍😁

    Already bought and read Phil's book.
    I thought his tests for flexibility were very good and thorough. By my standards I think I passed them all but I don't know how I would have performed if judged by the master himself. All exercises to improve your flexibility etc. seemed to be well explained. I'll probably do them to stay in tip-top condition.
    Waiting for the second edition of his bike fit book now - due out in April.

    Good session with Phil, strength training is a must for cyclists in my book and particularly upper body strength. I can manage leg presses, standing calves and barbell squats, however I struggle on chest and shoulder exercises. I started the gym end of last year and its important to do 3 weekly sessions of 1 hour each and get on your bike as well it really helps.

  • @ecopennylife
    @ecopennylife 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fantastic tips from Phil, can't wait to find a pole to test myself. Sounds quite logical to get the basic movements good before building up more strength exercises in the gym.

  • @GaborKmetyko
    @GaborKmetyko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very good advice, thanks for sharing them.
    I've learned the importance of all these flexibility things a bit too late, so it was obviously a much much bigger procedure to cure my spine first, then add in flexibility exercises and then strength. But I still say I was lucky to learn them - even if late - and now my spine works great, but I have to do my daily routine to keep it that way.
    So even if you don't have any problems yet, consider working with a physio to keep your body maintained. It is a good investment. Too bad people don't really care when they are still young, as everything works fine then :)
    Btw beautiful pain faces, Katie 😛

  • @markrushton1516
    @markrushton1516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think most of the viewers will use the books as a doorstop. got to do the exercises but since most of us dont bother stretching I cant see that happening. As Phil said you dont need a gym to do a lot of these. My wife who is ridiculously flexible doesnt bother.Some free weights at home, regular stretching, planks etc. Weight bearing exercises are good for the prevention of onset of Osteoporosis but you have to do the exercises and load the weights. Pilates/Yoga are useful for core strength

      HAHAHAHA John!!!!! I actually laughed out loud reading that, thank you for my morning belly laugh! It was the castanets!!! hahaha sorry!!! It still really tickles me now reading it back. But right, serious mode on.... I wish I could say... but I would maybe ask a physio. Is it painful??

    • @johnpepper6189
      @johnpepper6189 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KatieKookaburra No pain, just a fairly loud clicking noise. I suspect that as my knee got close to the wall and I reached the limit of my flexibility a tendon was snapping back and forth. If I stop doing the test it'll go away and the problem will be solved.

    I told you this right from the start - yoga, calisthenics and moderate weight training. I think you'd be a much stronger cyclist/athlete if you gave up your vegan lifestyle and thought how you can BEST fuel your body to achieve the best you can possibly be which would mean getting protein from quality meats, not the rubbish stuff, eggs and oily fish, still eat lots of veg. A vegan diet is fine I guess if you want to live a fairly inactive sedentary life but once you become highly active such as cycling or running, becoming an endurance athlete then no, you need a much better diet that can meet your body's needs to do what you want to do, to be the best you possibly can. In any case a vegan diet is based around carbs and sugar which is a ticket to insulin resistance, pre-diabetes and full on T2 diabetes.
