Most of the product goes on the lips. You're just getting rid of the contaminated excess. Like the other comment said, it's better this than wasting the whole tube by mixing it accidentally

I never clean the applicator after putting gloss over lipstick because it’s never enough to change the color of the gloss. If the color actually changes you have too much product on.
For those saying "just don't put gloss over lipstick" you can use matte lipstick instead which most of the time doesn't transfer and you can put clear gloss on top
I think it just depends because if I'm being honest I have about 20 to 30 clear lip glosses that are all designed and doesn't need it for specific lipstick or lip tints that I wear them over because I never wear clear lip gloss plus it's on top of something. So I don't clean minds off because I literally only use that one with the exact same lip color every time. I don't care if it's going to mix in with it. Also some people we'll only use a clear gloss with a specific color so really just depends from person 2 person.
You just apply it with a different lippencil or brush or and old lip gloss applier. You don't need to do that. Plus UT looks nice when it get pink or reddish

That's why I love rom&nd water glasting lip glosses. The applicator is of silicon material and so it doesn't pick up lipstick from the lips.

i usually just put it on my finger and using it from my finger so any color doesn’t transfer to the tub. but ofc with a clean finger

Just do a swipe of the clear gloss on the back of your hand and apply with your finger tips. Keeps it clean.
