I'm going over to Europe in the summer and will surely be making a visit to Perthshire. It is so wonderful that this rehabilitation is going on, its really making the world a better place. Thank you!
Second part: SS growns in so many gardens over here, they are not threatened at all. Nursery's are full of them. SF is more rare here, but can be found. They are a bit frost tender though over here (actually: they die when it gets to -25 C.). How about Abies nebrodensisiana, Picea martinezii? Really endangered! I love conifers and SS is a favourite. Sitka spruce too, but over here they can be found in almost every forest with loads of regeneration. Common, very big and beautiful I think. Cheers
A few points: Serbian spruce (SS) and Spanish Fir (SF)being threatened seems to be in large part because they are not fit enough. Spanish research show it is declinging in hardwood forests. Serbian spruce or the predecessor (Omoricoides) was also pushed back due to the iceages and did not return. SO it is good nor bad, it is nature. Besides, spruces tend to form landraces. So your Serbian spruce could be different over a few generations. Sitka spruce is not the same anymore for instance.
They may be found in gardens and parks however what big tree country does for these species is provide breeding populations outside of their native ranges. This is much better for the species as it allows a larger gene pool whereas in gardens they are forced to self seed or reproduce between a few different specimens in an area.
I'll be on a forest trip in september and ocotber in Wales, Scotland and northern England. Will be located in Callander (southern Highlands) for 8 days. I love the coniferous forests, so I would like to know where in Perthshire you are located? Have you every heard of Pucks lodge and its forest. If you are a aficionado like me, it seems a fantastic place to visit. I will do so. Do you know any other forests in Scotland where I can see confers in a very natural way?? Thx!
6 years without a video on this channel!! 6 years. Hows the project doing? What species have been planted. Where have you been to collect seed? Thats 3 videos right there. Its not even called the Iconic project anymore. Thats how dated this channel is. Lets get the word out and reach more people with more videos so they can help protect our trees.

Planting these trees are also a great way to green up cities and limit greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
