1. Identify the conditions: Determine the conditions or criteria that affect the decisions you want to make. These conditions can be binary (true/false) or have multiple possible values. Examples of conditions could be age ranges, customer types, product categories, etc.
2. Determine the inputs: Identify the inputs or factors that influence the decisions. Inputs can be specific variables or attributes that are relevant to the problem at hand. For example, if you are making decisions about granting loans, the inputs could include factors like credit score, income level, loan amount, etc.
3. Determine the actions: Determine the possible actions or outcomes that can result from the decisions. These actions are the choices or decisions you want to make based on the conditions and inputs. For instance, the actions could be approving a loan, rejecting a loan, or referring it for further review.
4. Determine the number of columns: To calculate the number of columns, you need to consider all possible combinations of conditions, inputs, and actions. Use the following formula:
Number of columns = (Number of conditions + Number of inputs) * Number of actions
For each condition and input, you need to consider both true and false values, hence the addition of their counts.
For example, let's say you have three conditions, two inputs, and four actions. The calculation would be:
