    What a moving surprise. Adams totally gets the song. He doesn't reinvent it, or try to make it his own, or "pay tribute to it," or anything like that (thank God). He draws back the black curtains of Mould's drenched sounds to reveal shafts of the song's inner light, of its inner life and motion.

      Have to respectfully disagree. For me this utterly neutered a desperate and penetrating masterpiece of rock music.

    • @kb1056
      @kb1056 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think he just gives the song a little more melodic, contemplative take. Not better or worse than Moulds original … but equally powerful.

    Way back in 1990, Black Sheets of Rain by Bob Mould (the entire album) saved my life...and as heavy and depressing as it may seem to some people...it felt exactly like what was going on in my head and life at that moment. Had a flash back to that moment today and stumbled on this. I'll admit I've liked some Ryan at times... I really like him at this moment.

      I feel that way about so many of Bob Mould's songs, particularly Too Far Down, particularly Hoover Dam; saw him in London a few year back doing Copper Blue in its entirety followed by a Husker Du encore, immense!

      Its likely and just fine that no one will ever see this, but I use running to stay in recovery. Whenever I run I have the same playlist (since 2017). Black sheets of rain is track 2. If I have ran a mile by the end of Black Sheets of Rain, I am very well paced. I have heard black sheets for rain hundreds and hundred and hundreds of times.

    I loved Bob's tour supporting the Black Sheets Of Rain album. I saw Bob just last year most recently at the Fillmore in SF, and he delivered still a blistering set! No effing around at all. He is in my Hall Of Fame. Now for Ryan, this is a fantastic cover of Bob's song. He is clearly a huge fan too! His version is riveting for me. Thank you Bob for this great song....and Ryan for this take. I am proud to say I have met both of these men. Rock and roll, still the best drug going......

    I like this cover. But unlike many in the comments, I'm afraid I can't agree that it's 'better' than the original. This is a pleasant yet somber, easy-listening backdrop for coffee shop chatter. Mould's is a rocking guitar volume cranker, that never overstays it's seven plus minutes of playtime.

    • @elliotgf

      This version recalls in relief a past misery. In Bob Mould’s original the pain is ongoing yet the song’s protagonist draws strength from their damaged state of mind.
