The silly tiny thing I have forgotten to bring on the cruise multiple times that I've beaten myself up about is my own lanyard. It doesn't occur to people until they're handed that keycard that is also their id card that they have to keep on them at all times... as a girl with no pockets in her dresses (or swimsuits), it gets to be a nuisance to have to carry a purse just so I can always get back into my room. And buying one on the cruise ship is always way more expensive than it needs to be.

We bring poopouri as well. Also don't forget the bleach wipes to wipe down your cabin. Sure the cabin is clean, but it never hurts to give it an additional wipe down. No one wants to get sick on a cruise.

bring over the counter medicines such as dramamine, tylenol, pepto bismol and antacids. They are cheap at home and expensive on the ship.

    Mark,
I was glad and surprised to see you on Croisi Europe. We cruised with them a couple of years ago, and we plan to again soon. The excursions and crew were all excellent, but the highlight was the FOOD. French cuisine expertly prepared by a totally Hungarian chef and kitchen staff. We couldn't resist going backstage to let them know how much we enjoyed their efforts. We assumed he was trained by Jacques Pepin, but he said no, it was his grandmother. Anyway, great advice on what not to forget on a cruise.

may I suggest : buy polyester polo shirts. you can buy them at club stores( golf shirts) or buy the ones with the pockets on Amazon. they do not wrinkle! roll em up, wrap with a rubber band. you can wash in the sink or shower they dry in a few hours.
also, bring liquid castille soap - to wash clothes and self.
buy something called " boot clips" ,they are for drying Boots. but, they are clips that will hang from anywhere and you can dry your garments. when I travel I make due with three shirts and three pairs of socks. I also bring my own garbage bag and throw out what I don't need any more.

It's important to know the higher SPF does mean significantly more protection. There is not much of a greater benefit in protection over SPF 30, SPF 30 product blocks 97% of UVB rays, SPF 70 blocks about 99%. What is more important is that people apply the correct amount and reapply it every 2 hrs or so (as indicated on the bottle). Even 'once a day' types don't in reality offer 8-12 hours protection (I asked a dermatologist). Where possible wear a hat and cover up. Also look for broad spectrum to protect against UVA as well as UVB. Be sun safe people, no matter what your skin tone.
Ireland is not a particularly sunny place, but we have one of the highest rates if skin cancer in Europe because we are not in general, well informed about sun protection.

On Princess Cruises, Irons for your clothes are provided for you in their guest laundry room. You can’t take the irons out of there at but they are there for you. The disadvantage is if you wait to use the iron.
For plugs bring ones where you plug more in there as your phones or tablets, travel strips are a must.

I like you video on what to bring on a cruise ship and your tips ( especially on the bathroom spray) I have been working on ships for years and sometime it is a issue - power supply. I usually travel with a 220 / 110 converter for small items. I like your tip on USB strip - i just purchase a 220 /110 multi usb strip - should be handy. I always try to get my wife not to bring her blow dryer, because they are usually supplied at hotel and on cruise ships. Well she brought her blow dryer anyways to Cuba , plugged it into the power outlets and guess what ? The blow dryer burned up. So for here birthday i purchased her a 220/110 blow dryer. To let you know a small power converter will not handle the watts on a blow dryer.

When we started cruising years ago we used to go through a travel agent for cruising only because 50 to over 100 people were in a group together, I would do airfare, transportation, hotels and meals for the family and I, now that the wife and I cruise alone I do it all, really isn't difficult at all, we find a cruise that we would like to do then we wait for airfare prices to come down, next is hotel, transportation and food while we are off the ship , cruisers for life.

A few comments have already mentioned SPF ratings but I just want to mention that you won't find "SPF 70" because it's illegal to market like that in many countries. In the EU (and Australia, the home of sunburn) SPF ratings on a label cannot exceed 50 but say 50+ instead (this says it exceeds 60). Many brands still only label in the 30's (some say 30+ or 35+ even if they rate over 50) because you can simply add a thicker layer for improved protection.
Some other factors to consider are:
The spectrum - UVB does most of the burn but you really want one to stop UVA too so find a broad spectrum. If you still go red but there is no pain/doesn't feel burnt chances are you were hit by UVA. (UVB is the burner but UVA does more damage to the skin long term)
Water/sweat resistance - This means it is better at surviving on a sweaty person but still needs to be reapplied regularly. Clean dry skin needs it every two hours, a sunscreen without a moisture resistance needs to be reapplied pretty often, while a resistant sunscreen needs it every hour or so... The label may say 3 or 4 hours but that is just how long it adheres, not how long it is effective.
Sunblock - Marketing has abused this word but it used to mean it had a high zinc content (and some titanium) making a thicker white paste instead of a thinner oil. Check the labels.. If there are two SPF 30's and one has a higher zinc content then that will likely protect more.
Finally, you can be irritated by chemicals. Sometimes a "burn" after a whole day in sunscreen can just be a case of having covered yourself head to toe, several times, in an irritant.

  • @terryholloway3241
    @terryholloway3241 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Do yourselves a favor and make a list of everything to need for the
cruise, long before you start to pack. Print it out and check it off the
list as you pack it. You would be surprised what you will forget to
bring with you. You really don't want to have to buy something you
needed onboard. That can be expensive. Also, if you are on a 5-7 night
cruise, take only 3 or 4 days worth of clothing changes plus swim &
formal wear. Why you ask? You can always wash your clothes in the
laundry and you won't have to pack so much. We always carry a baggie w/
powdered detergent and bring a dryer sheet. That will save you money.

Alway plan for the case that you will only have access to one AC outlet and make sure you have the adaptors and power strips to charge/power all your electronics from that one outlet. Also make no assumption on the voltage and power frequency. All your adaptors should handle between 100-240VAC at 50/60Hz.

SPF actually tells you how long until you need to reapply sunscreen. So, SPF 30 is not stronger than SPF 70. It just means you'd have to reapply more frequently. (SPF 30 = apply every 5hrs)

I am going to say something a little gross but it works... when you need to take a big shit when you push the first... you know the first one... then flush right away. That one is the stinkest... that helps to avoid a lot the bad smell.

candy and gum, way way too expensive on ship.Extra medications just in case you break down and are stuck at sea for a few days. And the phone number od a good divorce lawyer. get the ball rolling before you get back. And always avoid at all cost hooking up with crew.

james Morgan Are you basically saying you can't hear him? There should be subtitles if you're having trouble, though how reliable they are is a different story.
