    Looks to me like the locomotive fell to the floor and broke the Lug off. I know it's 5 years , but you should probably check the other truck.

    Great vid. The schematic page. I need several for locos and cars that I have. How would I go about finding them on line?

      Thanks for watching. I would try manufacturer's website first, looking for downloads. If nothing there call their parts department. If all else fails, I would look model railroading fans sites on Facebook and the internet. I've gotten a wealth of information and help from old time model railroaders.

    That didn't seem difficult at all, I guess the biggest thing is not to lose any of the tiny parts, that's happend to me once or twice eventually I found em but it was a pain...

    Need a truck gear for a loco I can’t identify. Maybe tyco... doesn’t say. “Made in Hong Kong”. Plastic. Are they “ one size fits all “?... hopefully.
    Any thoughts about where to look? Thank you. Oh... it’s a GT 5808. Blue w/ some orange. 💁

      It would be best to find what fits it, before trying to engineer a repair. Search the road name and loco number on eBay to tray and find it's twin. The listing should have the manufacturers name.

    IMHO you should've tried to fix the original. I think superglue mixed with baking soda would've done the trick at no cost!

      When I'm paid to repair someone's equipment I don't take shortcuts. Had it been my own, maybe.

  •  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video, that was really useful! My Altas Alco S-2 developed a lot of stuttering recently. I was told the trick is to disassemble the trucks and cleanup the dust that accumulates around the axles and the electric pickup plates; you showed exactly how easy that is to do by pulling carefully the little plastic tabs on the trucks. And now the engine is running like a charm again!

    I didn't notice you putting the headlight back in it's slot, and there wasn't a headlight on when the test drive was done. Is this because it wasn't running DCC?

    • @FNGFASHA

      Good observation! It was DCC, I think I had it turned off.

    I really liked this video. Very informative. I found this while looking to find a remedy for the problem I having with one of my engines but I haven't been able to find an answer.. I have a life like I think is a gp-40, the side panel on the truck drag on the rail but I can't see any thing to adjust. Every thing looks in place but that little shoe rides on the rail and can't keep the engine on the track or running. any thought you may have on this? would appreciate any help you can give me on this, thanks.

    • @FNGFASHA
      @FNGFASHA  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AngeloL49 I believe what you are referring to is the side frame. The part that is on the exterior of the trucks that show the details of the trucks. Dont hold me to this, but I believe that on the very bottom of the of the truck, there is a panel that you can remove to access the wheels and gears. Once that panel is removed, it will allow the side frames to be removed. When that panel is connected, it locks in to the pins that side frames side into to keep them in place. What I think, is that one of those pins has broken, allow the side frame to "droop" when setting on the track. Check that out and let me know. Be careful when trying to pry the clips loose to remove the panel. If at all possible Google a schematic of your locomotive, it will normally show how to completely disassemble all parts of the loco and offer some incite into removing that panel.

      Thanks for your reply. I believe I found the problem and seems to come from an out of gauge flex track, at least one problem. seems in one of the loco truck the weels has been push inward and keep fallen inside the track. Took me a while to notice it. Noticed the draging on the engine on the flex track.

    • @FNGFASHA
      @FNGFASHA  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds good. You may want to buy a track guage. They're called NMRA HO scale Wheel and Track guage. This tool will allow you to measure the width of the wheels and the distance between the rails. A must when laying flex track.

    More of a "replace" than "repair" video. Your "client" drop the loco at some time?

    • @FNGFASHA
      @FNGFASHA  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, it took a nose dive off a rail when someone raise the "bridge" to exit the room and didn't put it back down. Upside, the club learned that the kill switch needed to be fix :-O

    • @PapaMav
      @PapaMav 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured as much ;) On that note, I came across someone on here who cleverly used a couple of Push Buttons (always Off) to deactivate their bridge when in the up position.
