I really like this idea for drilling. It helps to work on slowing the ball down. Everyone can use this skill.

There's actually a hybrid option that might work out great: only after a ball passed the opponent's kitchen line as a volley (still in the air) then a return which lands your kitchen is an automatic fault. Effectively, choosing to attack hard or with pace opens up an extra kill shot for your opponents if you aren't successful. This might be a happy middle ground, but someone would have to try in on court to determine the actual dynamics.

I recently started turning the “cooperative volley” drills into a game by playing frescobol with pickleball gear. The best thing about it is it can be played with 2, 3, or 4 people. You don’t need a net or even a court to play. It’s really fun to play at the beach. I’m surprised that Simone hasn’t thought of this being from Brazil.

Our only available courts are at a park. How do we do these "games" when there are others waiting? We're expected to rotate out.

A typical Pickleball game lasts between 13-18 minutes. Set a timer then get off and rotate.

Usually you want to do drills/lessons/practice sessions on off times. If your local court is busy open to close, you can always ask other players if they will allow your group 15 minutes or so to play these games as a warm up. This is a lot better than just dinking around for a couple of mins. Finding a compromise and starting as early as possible really helps. Another way is to get a cheap net and try to find a court/slab/blacktop elsewhere; doesn’t necessarily need to be a pickleball court either. You’d be surprised how fast you can rig a court together with a net from Walmart.com, a couple of tape measures, and a few sticks of sidewalk chalk.

The reset-to-zero game doesn't work, but the kitchen-only game after kitchen is barely any different in playing time than the regular scoring system (though your playing time will resemble more advanced players who typically do end up in dink exchanges on most rallies). Maybe in the kitchen game you should allow Ernes and Berts to target the whole court at any time, so you don't complete neuter kill shots on loose dinks to best keep the score moving along. But I really doubt the playing time is that much different.

I purchased and use a Prince Spectrum for intermediate players (just starting, played Racquetball in college). I notice you like the Prince Response Pro and your coach prefers the Prince Spectrum Pro. Played about 9moths, thinking of upgrading my paddle. what would you recommend?

Hi. You sometimes have your students on camera with you instructing them. We are watching YOU since YOU know what you are doing. I do not say this in a mean way but when I watch your students, I am getting worse than if I did not watch at all...LOL. The best videos are watching you and Katherine.
