WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE BUDDY? Buddy Rich and his band performed a live concert decades ago in Japan, featuring a remarkable 30-minute arrangement and a staggering 13-minute drum solo of "Channel One Suite." A typical drum solo is between 2-5 minutes, challenging the body's stamina and the drummers' technique and versatility without being redundant. The intricacies of his drumming techniques left even seasoned drummers astounded, let alone those unfamiliar with the craft. It was difficult to fully explain what the hell he was doing rudimentarily. The performance was outstanding. The reader has to realize that Buddy passed away in 1987 and yet today (2024) his drumming ability stands alone and cannot be challenged. There will never be another jazz drummer like him, period!
There will be some drummers who really do not know what is happening here; difficult to comprehend due to it's complexity, speed, versatility, stamina and absolute technique. It is a G-- given talent of such complexity that it was bestowed to only one human being on this planet and still has not been reached or surpassed for the past 45 years and probably won't be for the next 45 years... ..... The sheer talent displayed in this lengthy single-handed solo, simply said: "bogglers" the mind. It is no wonder that drummers of all types, amateurs and professionals from around the world came to see him play and walked away with sheer wonderment... Sit back and enjoy this extraordinary display of power, technique and endurance.
It is often said when watching a skilled individual doing his job, be it an athlete, furniture maker, or a dancer, for example, that this individual makes what he is doing look so easy. In the case of Buddy, watching him makes it look impossible!
Totally the guys prowess on the rhythm and speed of his moves and the sounds he could get from his drums was incredible He was a rhythmic genius with perpetual sounds. This guy was god gifted and he banged the crap out of those drums.
Truly a classic rendition of this great tune. And that's why, as Micky Earnshaw alluded to, it's wonderful to hear it in the best audio quality ever! Thank you!
Greatness from the word go. Tons of drum instruction books many drum clinics out there and none of them would compare to what you have heard from buddy rich case closed
Its just so good! Just my ear kinda hurt bc of tune, I suppose because it is old or something and its kinda low, but appart of that, its buddy rich, so, basicly the goat
Buddy's control of the drumsticks is beyond human understanding.

The personnel are listed on the album jacket in English, which you can see at the very beginning of the video.
Fabulous quality recording! I guess this must have been an import judging from the album cover.
