Construction of DC Generator:
1. Yolk :
• outermost protective cover
• Responsible for protection of insulating material used inside.
• Protect all comp inside from dust,moisture and gases.
• Provide mechanical support
• Provides low reluctance for the flux
• Made up of cast iron
2. Pole:
• Have 2 parts
• Pole core responsible for freely winding
• Core Direct the mag flux to air gap , armature and next pole.
• Pole shoe cover max armature conductor to cut the flux so that more emf is induced.
• Made up of cast iron, cast steel.
3. Field windings
• Made up of copper
• Current carrying coil, experience Force in MF
4. Armature
• Part of dc machine where emf is induced.
• Made of cast steel
5. Terminal Box
• Has output wire cominf from armature
6. Armature conductor
• Made up of copper
• Simplw wire, job is to carry output current
7. Commutator
• Act as Mechanical rectifier so that alternating emf can be converted to unidirectional emf in dc.
• Made of segments
• Made up of copper
• Two segments are separated by thin layer of mica
• Take out voltage and current
8.Brushes
• Fixed with armature, rotates with armature
• Takes voltage and current from inside of commutator to outside and take it to terminal box

Very well explained sir. I want to know about the supply given to field coils is it AC or DC?
DC is used as then the magnetic field produced is non-time-varying i.e. static, thus imitating a permanent magnet.
